Four; [voice/action for Great Library]
[Some of you may recognize this voice, and some of you may not. Ramirez didn't often lend himself to actually speaking to people unless the circumstances were particularly dire. Or annoying.
But chances are, even if you know what he sounds like, you are still not quite going to recognize the voice that comes through the woodwork to this bracelet. The voice is the same, but the tone is completely different; there's a sort of warmth to it he never had before, a strange sort of soft-spoken tenderness that would put any young child at ease.
It's the sort of voice you might expect from a very kind older brother.]
I've had access to a multitude of books, but it was never anything of this magnitude. [There's something in his voice that's filled with awe, a very quiet and vibrant sort of joy.]
Upper City had several libraries of note, but even those were paltry compared to this. The vast scope and variation of your geographic charts is something that cannot be duplicated in one area.
[It's like the adult male version of sounding like a kid in a candy store. Really. You can bet he has several books laid open in front on the table next to him. After the intial gushing over this library though, he seems to catch himself.]
But I beg your pardon. From what I gather, it sounds as though it's possible I might be here a while.
It's not the most ideal of circumstances, but...[His voice trails off into an uncomfortable, thoughtful silence.]
...It sounds as though I have little choice but to assist this world in its time of need. I assure you, I will do what's needed.
My name is Ramirez; it's a pleasure to meet you.
((ooc: Unfortunately, Ramirez has found himself subject to the whims of the gods, possibly in a last-ditch attempt to make him socialize more without pissing everyone off. He has mentally regressed 7 years, from 24 to 17. And as you can tell from this post, the difference in demeanor from those seven years is a very, very big one.

[She's using video but... Judging by the background, she's actually in the library right now too! Just not necessarily right next to him.]
They are a rarity in Arcadia. I was fortunate enough to have better access than most, but the supply still remained limited.
There aren't many in your world, either? I never knew books could be so uncommon!

[Sob. Socializing is hard.]
Nonetheless, it's a shame that is seems prevalent among other worlds.
[Look at this smiling face IT'S NO BIG DEAL NICE LIBRARY GUY.]
Yes... I was never a very good reader even at home, but it would have made it even more difficult to learn anything without any books to read!
[action]
Vyse can't have possibly waded through the water to reach the library for one of his regular visits, walked past some kid around his age, and heard him call himself Ramirez.
No..
He stops, completely frozen for several moments, before slowly turning around, eyes wide. He's even more horrified to find that, yes, this guy does look a lot like who else but arguably his worst enemy.
What in the name of the six moons...]
Ramirez?
[action]
...The look on his face is some cause for concern, though.
That's right, concern. You can just see it in the way his brows knit over his eyes in uncertain distress.]
May I help you?
[There is absolutely nothing sarcastic or sardonic about that inquiry.]
[action]
Any other words Vyse would have liked to say are completely forgotten the moment Ramirez speaks, even more so at the way he speaks. Not to mention the look on his face. This? This has crossed the line from not normal to outright bizarre.
Of course, once he gets his head back on, he can tell there's something different about this Ramirez. Of course it'd be hard to miss the fact that he looks younger, around his age like he'd initially thought, not the older man he's more used to seeing. And, of course, he hasn't forgotten what Fina told them of the Ramirez she used to know, of the boy who was her best friend.]
Uh... Sorry. You're... [Wow, how do you tell someone "I know the older you and he's a creepy bastard?"] Ramirez. You're really Ramirez.
[action]
...really weird. And just serving to confuse this poor boy further.
It's an odd parallel, really, of their first meeting here, right down to the location. Vyse recognizes him. Ramirez doesn't. The difference of course being the reaction.
Ramirez doesn't snap at him or call him out on his strange wording. He's much too polite and soft-spoken now for that. But the confused frown deepens a little further, and his eyes flicker over in the direction of the doorway, as if trying to remember a quick way out.]
...I. Yes?
...I'm sorry, I don't quite understand.
[action]
It's like meeting him all over again, for the third time at that: once in Arcadia and twice in this library. And it's weird.
Though, really, Vyse should probably stop weirding him out. ]
Uh... Sorry. [Realizing he's only repeating himself, he shakes his head, stands a little straighter. Right, he can deal with this.] Sorry, I guess you wouldn't remember me. I've met you before. Sort of.
[action]
Oh...have you really? [It's an awkward, uncomfortable question; he so doesn't want to disappoint anyone. But no matter how much he looks Vyse up and down, he can't seem to place a face.]
...I'm sorry, sir. I'm afraid you don't look familiar.
[action]
He frowns, crossing his arms. This is... uncomfortable. This guy is being so nice (and why is he calling him "sir?!") and just looks so confused and Vyse has no idea how to deal with this. Were this any other person, he'd know exactly what to do, how to act, how to try to put him at ease. But this is Ramirez. Over the last months, he's almost grown used to running into him every once in a while in the city, even if often with disastrous results. But that doesn't make him like the guy any more. And now to see him so different..
Unsettling. Nevertheless, he can't stay in this standoff forever. He drops his arms, attempts to adopt a more casual tone and demeanor, though not a very convincing one.]
Yeah, I thought you wouldn't recognize me. It's kind of weird... I don't know if anyone's told you about how we get here, but I guess I've met you... when you're older? [Wow, Vyse, your explanation sucks.]
[action]
Ramirez doesn't even know the guy. It would be rude to let any of that show.
His words, however, don't make things any easier.]
...I only know the basics, but...when I'm...older?
[He repeats the words slowly, as if the syllables were foreign to him.]
...Are you sure?
[Another pause between words, before he shakes his head.]
Please don't think I'm accusing you of lying. It's just a little disconcerting.
[action]
He hadn't been sure at all what reaction to expect-- wasn't sure what to expect all from this Ramirez, in fact-- but this? This confusion, this disbelief? It's so unlike the man he's used to that he can't help but feel sorry for the guy.
Fina really had been right, hadn't she? The man she'd known was so very different from the one he'd met.
Vyse nods, attempts a small smile. This is probably one of the strangest things he's run into while in this world. Unsettling would be a major understatement. It's downright eerie.]
Yeah. I know it's weird, but we all get brought here from different times. So I guess I'm from your future.
[He pauses and looks up at him, before crossing his arms. Well, there's one way to get him to believe it.] You know Fina, right?

You could begin by sharing what it is you have read thus far in the vast collection you are surrounded by.
no subject
Unfortunately, I've only recently found my way here so I have yet to devote my attentions completely.
The collection of atlases is nothing short of astounding, however.
no subject
You imply that your access to such knowledge was limited where you are from?
no subject
...Ramirez?!
[This sweet, polite boy, this can't be him, surely?]
no subject
Or a profoundly old one.]
Yes?
[His voice lacks the hard edge it used to have. It's a simple, polite inquiry, nothing more.]
no subject
no subject
...Ah. Not that I'm aware, ma'am.
no subject
Hmm, I guess in that case ... it really is you?
no subject
...Forgive me. Was that an incorrect term of address?
But...I beg your pardon, but I'm afraid I don't quite understand your question.
no subject
Well, uh... [How to explain this?] Let's just say we've met before. But I don't think that you would remember.
[She's not sure if telling him everything she knows about him is necessarily the right thing to do. He seems so ... well ... nice. She doesn't want to remind him of the Ramirez she's familiar with.]
[He would be more surprised at the revelation but after his encounter with Vyse...]
Ah...yes, a man has previously said something similar. It seems I've been here before.
I apologize, but I can't remember any of it.
Well, that's okay. It means you can explore Asgard like it's the first time you're here!
