[Alice is walking along as she does, it's normal for her at this rate to be talking to herself. Muttering, even. She doesn't sound too well.]

People... don't just explode and come back to life.

A- And England surely isn't a living being. I- I'm not mad, I'm-

[She lowers her head as she walks in the streets, even bumps into others as it didn't help.]

But to a crisp- That's real. Is this real? Is all of it?

[A flicker - a glint - of her vorpal blade can be seen as she withdraws it in her hands.]

Foul tricks, they're all better off dead.

[Alice strains, with her free hand, she covers her head as if she's got the worse possible headache in the world. Huffing as she does, in a drop of a hat, Alice keels over to her left side out of sight.]

[Cocking his head, he actually smiles.] You're pretty stubborn, aren't you?

[He flips the knife in his hand, holding onto the blade part of the dagger as he offers the hilt of it to her.] Like I said before, though, you could really hurt somebody, includin' yourself, if you stumble around carelessly with this.

You look like you could use a glass of water. Or somethin' to eat. [He's taking note of her sickly (pale) appearance. He honestly feels sorry for her.]

[She swiftly takes it from him, running her fingers over the edge. Once Alice is back on her feet and takes a few steps away, one diagonal strike. One vertical. Swift and clean, just as the cat had promised her. Possessively, Alice tucks it back behind the bow of her dress.]

[Her eyes lock back on him again, stiffly crossing her arms as she stands there. Her knees a trembling. Her whole body is.

She had just forgotten the reason why she's out here. All she can recall are birds? How strange.]

I am neither thirsty or hungry.

[Claire feels something along the lines of paternal for her. He gives her another smile, although this one is much more sympathetic.] Is that what your mind is tellin' ya? 'Cause your body seems to be sayin' otherwise. You look pretty weak in the knees.

[Of course she's weak. All Alice knows is that he approached -- Alice had forgotten the rest. By now, she's carried this blade as means for protection and a reminder to herself. She's so stiff, making sure there's good distance.

Alice wouldn't hurt anyone unless they asked for her, although, right now, a faint urge echoes. She hates that sympathetic look. How can she trust anyone who's been "sympathetic"? Using and abusing her.]

It's what I say I am.

[It doesn't help her argument when Alice plops down on the ground again, on cue.

But the birds, Alice!]

[Well, at that, Claire's lips upturn in an enthused manner. He laughs, briefly, before following her action and taking a seat in front of her, crossing his legs. With his hands on his knees, he hunches over, showing her that she had all his attention.]

All right, then I'll take your word for it! [She's strange, he thinks, but he finds it endearing. He had already examined her body language and has made inferences about her by now, but he won't say anything just yet.] You got a name?

[Unfortunately, Alice doesn't take too kindly to this. Her dark hair covers her face, as Alice strains to recall what happened. A moments, his voice is a distant echo. Fuzzy images of blood and birds. When she snaps back, her green eyes look back to him.]

Alice Liddell.

What do you want from me?

[She keeps zoning in and out... he thinks she could really use that glass of water. His own eyes trail away from hers as he glances around the area, looking for a restaurant or something.]

Alice, huh? Or would you prefer Miss Liddell? I suppose I'm not looking for anything in particular out of ya, besides maybe company, even if it's gotta be brief. I was thinkin' perhaps we could be friends, since it looks like you could use one.

[Turning his attention back to her, he makes a gesture towards himself.] My name's Claire Stanfield. Although, some people know me as Vino.

[Friends?

Alice is drifting in and out of her daze, wobbling as she does. Though this makes her snap green eyes at him. She regards him with a scowl. Out of the blue like that? He wants something, doesn't he?]

Call me whatever you like, it doesn't matter.

[Alice even scoots back.]

All right, Alice it is, then! [Getting up from the ground, he dusts himself off.] I suppose you're not gonna budge even if I urge you to get somethin' to eat.

Do you wanna be left alone?

[Alice always looks thin. Her pale skin and dark circles under her eyes don't help any. And not the way Alice seems to stare off into nothingness before replying.]

I am not hungry.

[Cooly:] Then what's the matter?

[Naturally, she doesn't say to a stranger, Alice just stares, sitting there the way she does. Shoulders sank and her hands in her lap.]

Well, I'm all ears if you've got troubles to tell. Like I said, though, if you wanna be left alone, I'll leave.

[He reaches into his pocket, pulling out a clean pink handkerchief.]

What is that?

[She does want to be alone. Alice won't say anymore, it'd be like pulling teeth from her to get her to talk.]

Something that might come in handy sooner or later. [He approaches her and leans over to offer it.]

[What is wrong with you?]

I don't cry.

Ah... but you do sneeze, don't you? And get your hands dirty, too! [He's weird...]

[Now it just seems like you're looking for an excuse to stay here.]

[He stares at her with keen eyes, tilting his head in question as he stirs the handkerchief with a couple flicks of his wrist.]

Not that I think you're gonna sneeze right now. It's just a gift, that's all. You can even sit on it, if you'd like! Since the ground is a bit dirty.

[Alice doesn't take too kindly to staring, a hand braced by her back and the other makes no notion to grab it. No offense to you, good sir, it makes Alice uncomfortable.]

Aren't we ever the gentleman. Some would think of a hankerchief as a romantic gesture. This is absolutely silly. Why don't you tell me why you're really giving it to me?

[Well, he will sense her discomfort, because that's what Claire Stanfield does. He leans up and away from her, shaking his head slightly.]

I told you, I don't got any ulterior motives, but I guess it can't be helped if you don't believe me.

I'm already engaged, so I'm not tryin' to romance you, if that's what you're thinking. Like I said earlier, I thought that maybe we could be friends and my offer will continue to stand unless you decide to make me your enemy or something.

Anyway, if you want me to get goin' you might as well say so. I promise you I'll leave once you tell me to.

That much was obvious.

[Alice sneers. She snaps to her feet-]

[Like a snap, the vorpal blade is held out, threatening.]

Leave. I have no use for you. I don't particularly like someone forcing friendship on me.
