[Conan beams. Pure, unadulterated, cheerfulness might not be enough to distract from the drab, gloomy interior of Hel's hall, but he's trying hard.]

Ne -- I was thinking! I've heard a lot of people wondering why we were here -- not the reason in the letter. Why us and not anyone else! So that got me thinking -- maybe we'll find out the answer sooner if we ask questions to a lot of people at once!

I've got one for everyone -- sorry if it's a bit weird, but try and answer the best you can, okay? I bet it'll be useful in the long run. Anyway -- how important are you in your world?

Well -- I don't know as much as I'd like yet. But Odin's the all-father, the king of the Norse gods in the legends of my world, and the library's in his district. Sigyn, all I know is that she's the wife of Loki, but there's a hospital in her district and a girl I met who lives there -- one of us -- was able to heal a cut without knowing how she did it. Thor's thunder and a warrior, Hel -- well, all I know about her is that she's associated with death.

[ All-father. The Eru Iluvatar. Sigyn, the healer, like Nienna. Thor the warrior, like Tulkas. Hel- of death, like Mandos of the Valar, husband of Vairë the Weaver.

Aragorn breathes in quietly. ]

A child does not suit the House of Death and Doom. Does Hel judge the dead, and know their lives through the tapestries woven by her spouse??

[That's -- an interesting question, Aragorn.]

If she does, I haven't heard about it.

These gods- they seem to be the Valar I know, under a different name.

If so, then Eru Ilúvatar himself has chosen me.

The Valar? Is that -- a house of gods?

Nay. They are beings of great powers, the Ainur who chose to go into Arda itself and for the sake of the completion of its material development the Ainulindalë defined its form.

[ MASS CONFUSION. ]

Ne, Aragorn-san? What are the Ainur, where is Arda, why is it important and can you explain Ainulindale again?

[DOES THIS SEEM AT ALL FAMILIAR ARAGORN?]

[ ... Well now it's his turn to answer the question. He laughs quietly over the line, and finds it strange, that he has to explain things that are so familiar to him and yet is completely unknown to anyone else. ]

Arda is the old name of our world - many calls it Middle-Earth, nowadays. Eru Iluvatar is the great One, the Father who Created All, and the Ainur are his first creations, spirits who are birthed purely from his thoughts, before the advent of Time.

The Ainur then made the Ainulindalë, the Great Music, and it is the scaffolding of Arda itself, from the beginning of history to the end of Time. When Eru Iluvatar breathes life into the Ainulindalë with a single word, he makes it manifest, and Time and Arda exists.

Ah. That's pretty similar to the Greek creation myth in my world. Not exactly similar, but there are echoes ...

The second part though, that's entirely different.

[ This is a questioning silence! ]

[And eventually it dawns on Conan that his companion is waiting a response.]

Ah, it's only a thought! I don't have the evidence to back it up--

Although, it's possible ... ne, Aragorn, have you met anyone here that you'd known of before you came here? By reputation I mean, not like Boromir-san.

[ This is the worst question to ask a Tolkien person. But really, it's easy to answer. ]

Will you tell me of these 'Greek creation myths'?

Of course -- it might be easier to take you to that library though. It's been a while since I looked them up last.

But going back to my thought, since you're free of preconceptions, you might be able to give me a second opinion on this.

Let's wait until we've introduced you to Greek Myth though.

[ An affirmative sound. Then- ]

I hear the library's in Odin district -- would you like to meet there? Maybe in a day or two -- I should have more to tell you about then!

[ ... So incredibly suspicious. So very, very suspicious. ]

Two hours past dawn in two days, Conan of Edo by the river. [ Softly, and he uses the title for a good reason - that is not a title of a child, but of a man. ]
