But the piece de resistance was, without a doubt, the fact that he could no longer open the Gate to access his rightful Treasury. The King of Heroes was feeling downright murderous. He doesn't so much as even acknowledge that there's anyone else out there in lieu of threatening the gods who brought them all there.]

Gods... [he smirks slightly and chuckles, but then he's back to simmering anger] Don't make me laugh. Any so-called god who would request an audience with the King, yet fails to so much as appear, is merely another cur to be properly disciplined.

I assure you that your punishment will be sufficiently agonising, mongrel, if my Treasury is not restored to me and I am not returned. Do not waste my time with offers of compensation; there is no treasure you could possibly offer in exchange for the one I was about to claim.

Are they pretty common where you come from, in that case?

Perhaps not by the standards of ordinary humans, though they maintain such a degree of secrecy that humanity in general is unaware that there is or ever truly was such a thing as magic.

Then it seriously sounds a lot like my world, yes. I was unaware of magic until I started meeting witches all over the place, although I have to say I sort of regret that happened.

I have yet to hear a magus refer to himself as a 'witch'... I suppose 'magus' sounds more high-minded. Rather cocky forwhat are largely a collection of simple mongrels. But they have their uses.

'Witch' is just what magic users call themselves in my world. Well, the female ones, either way. I suppose it would differ from world to world, although I'd have to agree something like 'magus' sounds pretty pompous.

I am a Heroic Spirit, only bound to the material plane through contract with a Master. I was curious to see how the world has changed since my lifetime... otherwise, I would not have bothered agreeing to such a trifling thing.

So bascially.. Being a 'Heroic Spirit' would mean you're the magical manifestation of some hero from long ago? [ that's what it sounds like, at least, with the whole 'since my lifetime' thing. ]

I guess you noticed the world never really changed for the better, then.

[His eyebrows lift slightly in surprise that she grasped it so quickly, then he smiles. Unfortunately for Ange, he's decided that she's interesting.]

Precisely... albeit with a temporary, transient 'body'. I must admit that I am rather curious how these 'gods' managed to thrust me into a true one.... as limiting as it is.

[And then his nose wrinkles in disgust]

Well, that is pretty weird. [ really, grasping it is mostly due to her having to deal with plenty of weird things back home - compared to that, this isn't anything that strange. although it does make her wonder about something else. ] I thought these gods were complete fakes just using technology or whatever, but.. if they can give temporary magical manifestations a real body, I doubt that would have anything to do with technology.

'Ugly' is a good word for it.

'You scratch our back, we stab yours' seems like a good slogan for it. Or.. is that exactly what you find so amusing, 'mister Heroic Spirit'? [ it seems somewhat deadpan rather than politely meant. ]

By Gaia's standards, it is. Hence the need for a particular artefact to summon existences which are, by the world's rules, an impossible, unnatural existence.

I'm certain they are fakes... the technology in question might be that, or one such artefact that defies current understanding. Which would indeed explain why I seem to be human now.

[He's confident enough in his abilities he does not even care who knows he's no longer a Servant. And it's not as if Tokiomi really meant his 'respect' either, as long as it's given. At least she's not boring.]

I suppose one could say this is now a level playing field, so to speak. I must say I'm surprised that these fakers saw fit to bring such a... diverse population, many of whom are quite interesting. I look forward to seeing how they will either succeed or break... perhaps even fall.

And they can seriously just be summoned in the world like that? Back in my own world there was just a lot of crap about being able to see those kind of existences as long as you believed in them or 'had love' or whatever.. Just a roundabout say of saying it's actually not real. [ ... ] Compared to that, a place like this would be much more impressive if they could actually maintain an existence like that here.

[ that kind of attitude.. it's almost enough to remind her of the witches, really, although he isn't as annoying to her quite yet. probably since he isn't messing with her family like they were. ]

So you're planning to sit back and see what fate people cause for themselves here, like you're watching television or something? [ she does realise if he's really some ancient hero he'll probably not know what television is, but still. ]

Oh, all these things would be 'real' regardless of whether one believed in them or not. Air does not need belief to exist.... prana is simply a form of energy, not unlike heat or electricity.

[He only bothers with people he finds 'interesting'. In fact, that creepy smile? That means he's found Asgard as a whole fairly interesting]

That's not really the best analogy. Television is a passive form of entertainment. I prefer revealing truths and watching how a person handles that knowledge.
