[The video feed flickers to life, and there is a man with dark hair gazing at the "screen" for all to see. There is something decidedly serpentine about the incline of his head, the way his lips are almost curled into a snarl, exposing a flash of white teeth before he speaks.

The man's voice itself is low, surprisingly so, for such a face; almost as if there is the perpetual rumbling, the sound of gravel, at the back of the throat.]

Zok bein. Even my own tongue does not come to me as it should, as naturally as I breathe. Instead my mind is filled with the muddled words of this foreign language, and my body weak.

[He then scoffs – the dry, humourless kind that could pass as a hiss.]

Who encases me in this prison of flesh, rips my Voice from my throat and takes away my wings? These "gods"? Meyye. I know nothing of these so-called gods.

[Man, he's just a bundle of sunshine, isn't he?]

In defeat, I have done nothing to warrant humiliation.

[I don't think... Alduin can do much of anything without eventually destroying it, actually.]

[Though his expression remains stubbornly grim, there is the smallest flash of interest in his gaze.] And what do you know of destruction? What talents has this "Asgard" taken from you?

[ that's okay, it'd be fun while it lasted. ]

Nothing that a dragon would find impressive, I'm sure.

[ flexing his hand thoughtfully as he looks off-screen. ]

I once possessed the ability to phase through solid objects. I used it chiefly to... [ kill people horribly, ] earn and secure my own freedom.

[If he were more caring, he would perhaps ask freedom from whom? or something similar. As it is, it is merely noted and stored in the back of his mind before he speaks.]

Perhaps that is why we are without our skills now; so that we do not escape this gilded cage we have been placed within.

Precisely my own thoughts, judging from the number of people who have complained of the same situation.

[ he's been here long enough to draw that conclusion, though it doesn't get any easier to swallow the more he considers it. ]

Though the gilding could use some work.

[He gives a small 'hmph' at that. Because it certainly does.]

It is no Sovngarde, that is certain. Why the gods cling to this world is beyond even my comprehension.

Perhaps even gods are not immune to a certain baseless sentimentality when it comes to their homeland.

[ hesitantly, because normally he really wouldn't care but--well, it's not every day one speaks with a dragon, ]

Do you think they are truly gods?

As is apparent. [Not that he ever worried about such things!]

[A moment of brief consideration, coupled with a frown.] Perhaps only gods [OR VERY STUBBORN MORTALS, HNNGH] may meddle in the affairs of another god – so it is possible. And yet frustrating.

Frustrating is putting it mildly.

[ HGHHHH what's frustrating is having to be good at conversation with strangers when he's all too aware of his shortcomings in that area. something about what he's said, though... ]

--Were you a god in your world, then?

[Oh, Fenris. Let us both be socially inept together.]

[Alduin is what he is: an entity. The mortals are quick to perpetuate the idea of deities, though, and he isn't one to stop them.] Yes. Alduin, the World-Eater.

[ can they please. it will be a beautiful...terrible...something or other. ]

...Fenris.

[ that's--foreboding. but a dragon is still preferable to a mage. ]

I have not consumed any worlds that I am aware of.

[yes they could stand at opposite sides of the room and perpetually make >:| faces at each other.]

Fenris. [He repeats it, seeing how the word settles on his tongue. How strange, to be exposed to so many new ones, so quickly.]

A pity. ~~[then again, he hasn't had a chance to, either.]~~

[ sounds like perfection; they can swap gory adventure stories. ]

Alduin.

[ echoing the name just to test how it sounds. it's strange to think of dragons as ...things with names and not enormous creatures swooping down from the sky to kill them all. ]

Indeed. It sounds very...satisfying.

[this is an amazing idea and they should do it.]

[As for swooping down and killing things, he's done a lot of that in his time, too.]

What is more satisfying than to fulfill one's purpose? Dez. Their fate.

fenris would expect nothing less from someone calling himself a world-eater. repeating carefully, ]

Dez. [ wow, honestly for once he feels as though talking to a stranger hasn't been a total waste of time. ] I imagine you were...interrupted before you could accomplish such a thing?

[He does not mind terribly the dragon words being repeated; it is strangely satisfying, hearing them, even if they're not from another dovah.

The question makes him appear a little more grim, however, on an already serious face.] Yes. The Dovahkiin, Dragonborn, saw fit to challenge me. As did the heroes of old. They have defied their fate, for now, and denied me of my own.

[ fenris just has a certain thirst for knowledge...more easily sated when he doesn't have to struggle with reading, and it does seem like a once in a lifetime experience. speaking with a dragon instead of getting set on fire. ]

I fought a dragon, once. [ might as well admit that up front. though it's strange hearing the other side of things, for once. ] It sounds as though you were outnumbered.

[Though Alduin does not look it, he is conflicted. Yes, he was outnumbered and already weakened, but admitting to it openly does a number on his pride. Because it should not have mattered. He should have destroyed them all easily, then and there. But he couldn't.

So there's a clear pause before he speaks.] Yes. But the battle remained long and enduring.

How fared you, when you faced a dovah?

[ hey, no worries, we've all been there. there have been many times when fenris felt that he should have been able to destroy everything in his path. sometimes these things aren't...possible alone. apparently even for a dragon. ]

I have no doubt.

[ he's a little sorry for bringing it up, since it's obviously not a pleasant memory. ]

If I'd been on my own, I almost certainly would have been killed, abilities or not. As it stood, I was only nearly torn in half.

[Don't feel too bad for the terrifying God of Destruction who wanted to devour the world. No one else in Skyrim does, after all.]

[Alduin almost sounds amused. Almost.] As it should be. Any less and I would hesitate to call the creature a dragon.

[ well fenris would feel differently if he was a dragon who'd tried to eat hawke. probably.

try not to look quite so happy at the prospect of him being disemboweled there, alduin. ]

It certainly felt like a dragon when it sank its teeth into my side. The idiot mage was not quick enough with his healing, that day.

[This is why you never stand close the the business end of a dragon.]

Do the dragons in your land have Voices?

[ yeah he'll not be making that mistake again. ]

I... [ hesitant again, not wanting to give a wrong answer, ] They have voices, certainly, but use no words that I am aware of. Chiefly it's--focused on the roaring and breathing of fire.

[Alduin makes a low, dismissive sound at the back of his throat.] Then they are not the same at all. [He doesn't look disappointed, per se. A simple curiosity satiated.]

What are the dragons in your land like, then?

[ the curiosity goes two ways. he's never considered that there might be different ways of--being a dragon. ]

What are you like?

[A question in return, before he answers the one asked of him.] Have you not an idea of your own? What manner of dovah do you think would carry the title of World-Eater?
