Ah--is it working now? Yes? Good.

[Though curt, the speaker retains just enough politeness in his voice to pass as "approachable". The image suddenly turns, giving everyone a good look at the owner of the bracelet: a man wearing a peculiar body suit. Worry and frustration hardens the lines of his face.]

If anyone is hearing this--or seeing this, I suppose, as this device is apparently capable of transmitting video recordings as well as sound--I would like to have a few things clarifed. The maid has already helpfully informed me of the basics, but was unwilling to tell me much else.

Am I to understand that every single person brought here is expected to stay in this city for an indefinite amount of time? And that everyone has been given an ability of some sort?

[Charles stops, taking a breath.] My name is Charles Xavier. If anyone could answer my questions as well as disclosing the specifics, I would be most grateful.

Whoever they are, they're extremely powerful.

Yes, I'm from AD 2026 in the United States, and a lot of people here, even people I know, are from before that time. Some people here who aren't humans are even turned into humans by the gods.

They finally told us about it recently, yes. Wait a second-- [There's a pause, then Apollo sends a link.]

They do resemble the gods from the myths.

That's what I was thinking. They give us information only when it suits them. People were here for weeks without being told anything about it, even though they knew it all along. So who knows how reliable they are.

No, our science can't do that. It's something specific to this place. [He wishes he could explain it, but he can't.] I don't know how it works. This is a completely different world. The "gods" seem to be able to do a lot of things other can't. People say it's magic. [Apollo's tone is apologetic when using this term.] But I don't see why it can't be advanced science.

No, they're not helpful, and they only show up now and then. I don't think they lie about everything, but lies of omission are still lies, and I'm sure they haven't told us the whole truth.

Oh, really? We don't have people with abilities like that in my world. [Well, not really. He has his perceiving, but it must not be a "real" ability if it still works, or at least not the kind that was taken away.]

That's what I mean. I'm more familiar with genetics and mutations and things like that, not that I'm a scientist. I don't believe in magic, but that's what people are calling it. I have no idea either. Maybe they can change out genes somehow?

You're right. They ignore us most of the time. [Apollo doesn't exactly think highly of the gods.] I've looked through the library, and so have other people. There are a lot of books there, from different worlds, but absolutely none about this place.

We have tried that. There's a census that we were working on. [Apollo pauses.] It was voluntary, obviously and a lot of people didn't fill it our right. [Not that it was a complete failure.] Some did, though. Here...

And here's a link.

It's interesting! You can get to know your fellow captives. [For good or ill.] And fill it out, if you want.

[He nods again.]

The one place we're not allowed to enter is the castle where we first show up. You don't see much of it when you initially arrive, and then you're not allowed to go back inside. There's no way to get in.

[Apollo understands, as he worked on it and read through it. It's a lot to read.]

Elika and someone named Shion came up with the initial idea, but a few of us helped with expanding the idea and collecting the information. Myself included.
