[Mary's face flickers into view, showing a very confused-looking teenage girl who's staring into the camera (bracelet) with the intensity of a brain surgeon mid-operation. After a moment she seems to become aware that it's on and broadcasting, starts slightly, then sits back, talking at the camera with distinct awkwardness.]

Oh, god- is this even working? I- I think so. Okay, okay. [Clearing her throat and kind of sitting up a little.] Hi. My name is Mary Campbell and I know I'm not the only person trapped here.

[Deep breath. On closer view, she looks rattled. Like she's been crying, but long enough ago that she can hide it somewhat.] I don't know if anyone out there can hear me or if you know me, but I need help. If anybody can tell me what's really going on- and if there's any way to wake up. [Deep breaths, Mary. Keep it together.] I'd just really appreciate it.

[She takes a quick breath and moves as if to turn it off, but then abruptly spits out-] I'm in Sigyn. [She pronounces it wrong.] If that means anything to anyone. I don't know if it does. I don't know anything.

[A grimace (she knows she's losing her composure) and she turns the thing off abruptly.]

I think we should probably talk about the rest in person.

Just tell me if you are who I think you are. Please.

[Well. He's not going to text it. :C So he opens up a video feed.]

Tell me who you think I am first and I'll let you know if you're right or wrong.

[And then, much more gently:]

It'll help if you come to terms with it first, instead of the other way around.

[Mary's in Sigyn now, curled up and looking impossibly exhausted. At least this lets her get a good look at him, though, and- oh god. He looks just like Dad. She curls into herself with a wounded look.]

Are you Dean's brother?

[Because... Sam and Dean. It makes sense, in a terrible kind of way. Dean said he went after the demon, too. He hated that thing.]

[Sam is quiet for a moment before nodding slightly.]

Yeah. I'm younger. He's older. Which -- he probably said that around eighty times, give or take four.

[Mary's expression crumples slightly and she clamps a hand over her mouth tightly, eyes squeezed shut.]

You're my son. That's right, isn't it?

[He cringes slightly, at the reaction -- Sam never got the chance to actually know his mother growing up. The only time he's ever met his mother was because of the angels -- and that hadn't exactly gone over well. But Sam sucks in a long breath.]

Right.

[Pause.]

-- if you need to freak out, you can, I -- won't be offended or anything.

Thanks, I just really can't handle this right now. You're hunters and-

[She looks at him again and whatever she was saying dies on her lips.]

...You look just like Dad.

[Sam offers half a smile, a little uncomfortable, but he does his best to appear relaxed and nonchalant about the whole thing.]

Thanks, I think? I'm hoping that's a compliment. And... the hunter thing is kind of a long story.

[Pause.]

-- I've got a lot of them, I guess -- sorry, I usually don't sound like an idiot, but it's not really every day you meet your mom at eighteen or nineteen.

It's okay, it's. You're fine. I don't normally- sound like this.

[Given the situation, Mary's a little too wrapped up in herself to notice his discomfort. She is, however, focused on doing some mental math that makes her sigh.]

Oh wow, you must have been really young...

[When she died. Will die.]

I was six months old.

[As a way to finish her unspoken question.]

[She just kind of... wilts. And pulls a blanket from offscreen over herself.]

I'm sorry.

It's not your fault. Don't feel guilty or -- anything like that, please.

[Instantly -- and firmly.]

We turned out pretty alright, all things considered. And I, uh --

[Paaaaaause.]

-- I mean, I went to Stamford.

[A bit lamely. A vague attempt to let her know that he tried to be a normal productive human being.]

[That actually does get through to her; she looks up, startled- no. Stunned.]

You went to Stanford? No way. Come on.

[Hunters don't go to college. They just kind of... don't. Nobody in her family has ever gone to college- she's pretty sure John's, too.]

[ -- aaw, alright. That gets an involuntary grin out of him, even if it's just barely there, and Sam shrugs a little nonchalantly.]

Yeah.

[A full ride to one of the best universities in the country and a straight 4.0 average is nothing to brag over, clearly.]

No one in my family ever to college. Not John's, either. I mean- Stanford?

[Yes she's hung up this is BIG to her okay. Little miss recent high school graduate.]

That's amazing. I mean, did you guys- did you move around?

Ye...ah. I grew up in a '67 Impala.

[It's said with some amount of fondness, though. As much as Sam busts Dean's ass for loving that car more than he loves any woman he could ever have, he really does love that stupid car.]

But I booked it at 18 and went to California for school.

Wow.

[Cue the stars in her eyes. That's kind of some flavor of exactly what she wants to do, but with a little more housewifery.]

That's really cool. The grades you must've gotten- how coul you even afford it? What were you doing on the side?

[Lol that awkward moment when.]

I got a full ride. Constant travelling and maintaining a 4.0 sounds great on a college essay.

...Yeah, no kidding. Do you have any idea how awesome that is? I've never heard of a hunter kid going to college.

[Sam almost tells her the hoops he had to go through -- how he had to run away, how John told him he wasn't a part of the family anymore if he left -- but... he can't quite bring himself to ruin that for her.]

It was a pain in the ass, but -- yeah, I did it.

Wow, I- I can't even imagine...

[He got out, though. It sounds like he got out. Some part of her really thinks that that what it means, and she doesn't want to ask in case it's not true. Mary likes the idea that at least one of them escaped.]

What was it like?

Aaahm.

[Jesus, it was so long ago. Normalcy.]

-- it was fun, a lot of fun, actually. I made a lot of friends -- met a girl -- graduated with honors, it was a pretty ... great time in my life.

[The way he answers leaves no room for doubt. Mary listens, but can't help deflating just a little.]

How'd you get pulled back in?

[Isn't that how it always goes.]

[Pause.]

The girl I met was killed.
