Our Planned Skit: Take 1

[There's a new face outside Heimdall's Welcome Hall. It's a confused face. It's also a concerned face. But it's also a face that would normally be friendly and open, so it seems to be having an identity crisis at the moment.

Keith Goodman, to whom the face belongs, wonders for a moment if his city, the city of Sternbild, has a patron god. Or gods. Then he discards that idea, since he would have known about anything like that. At the moment, he feels uncertain about things in general, but it would be hard not to be. On his own in a strange place, wearing his suit and gear (none of which works), and toting his helmet under his arm, he hardly feels like Sky High. Which, since he knows he can't manipulate so much as a light breeze, he guesses he isn't. At least for now.

Thinking of "for now", he makes a metal note to find out more about the power he does have. The sooner he's able to figure out his place in all this and start doing something about getting back to Sternbild, the better. After all, there's a manhunt underway for a dangerous NEXT, and his friends and fellow Heroes need him. Keith Goodman, formerly Sky High, wonders just how long it takes to "bring life to the world".

But, confused or not, a little disheartened or not, and duty bound or not, Keith Goodman knows how to follow instructions. He can see that he's arrived at the destination on the map he was given, and he can see that the bracelet device is working properly. If there is one thing he doesn't need instructions for, it's making an introduction. A script would be nice, but he couldn't find anything to write with. Determined to do the best he can, Keith pushes his bangs back out of his eyes, squares his shoulders, and addresses the holographic screen with a smile.]

Hello-- to whoever can see and hear me! I'm Keith. Keith Goodman. I guess it's okay to say that I'm a Hero from Sternbild, since my identity doesn't seem to matter here. I didn't see the point in wearing my helmet anymore. It doesn't work and it's pretty hot in there. so I hope that's all right!

[There's a brief pause, as if Keith were trying to remember his lines.]

Normally, I really like meeting new people, even if it's a surprise. I haven't met anyone yet, but I hope to meet you very soon. I'll do my best to be a good member of the group. I'm sure that with good teamwork, we can do whatever it is that needs to be done!

I know that being brought here must be inconvenient for everyone, so I'll try not to complain. Though I wouldn't mind hearing how others are handling it, of course! I was wondering, though, is there anyone else here who was in the middle of something really important at home? Something you were needed for?

[Realizing he's deviated from his "script", Keith shakes his head as if trying to clear it of worries. He smiles.]

I don't think I've been assigned any quarters yet, but in the meantime, I'm where I'm supposed to be. At least according to the map, I am.

Well, I'd like to say thank you for hearing me out! So, thank you!
[Somehow Keith manages to hold onto his helmet while flipping the screen a salute.]

[Let's see -- he found his own way to his assigned welcome hall, he doesn't have repetitive questions that could easily be answered by looking at the letter, and he isn't throwing a tantrum. Conan is impressed by Keith's introduction.]

Ah, I think there's a lot of us with things they'd rather be doing than be here! I was helping Uncle on a case!

But it's possible that being here is important too.

No, I don't think it does-- I'd like to help everyone get back to where they belong, and I'll do everything I can to help make that happen.

I don't want to sound selfish, it's just that I'm worried about the situation at home-- about my friends, and about my duty.

You've made quite an impressionable entrance as usual, Sky Hi-- ...Mr. Goodman. [Feeling a little odd saying that. He's too used to referring to the other heroes by their aliases.]

[Oh, another Hero. How delightful. Meaning, he doesn't think it's delightful at all.

But he smiles, nonetheless. He knows how odd it would be for him to avoid the Heroes, so he's going to deal with them regardless.]

Judge Petrov! It's really good to see you here-- not that I want you to be in trouble too, of course! It's just-- there's so much happening at home. I'm worried about the other Heroes, about not being there to help them.

In the middle of something important? ...Yes. I suppose you could say that.

You could also say 'in the middle of something extremely important' or 'in the middle of something absolutely vital,' but it gets the point across all the same.

Yes, in my own-- world, I am. There, people called NEXTs who have special abilities help to fight crime and protect people.

To answer your question, yes. I was in the middle of undertaking a very important mission before being brought here.

I'm worried about my fellow heroes-- we were all in the middle of a manhunt for a dangerous criminal. But there's nothing I can do about it but do as I've been asked, I guess.

[Noting the young lady's appearance, Keith asks the obvious question.] Are you a NEXT?

Hello--! Yes, I think a positive attitude is a good thing to keep in any situation-- probably right now it's even more important than usual. [Keith nods an emphatic affirmative.]

[She always leaves for work quite early, so it doesn't matter if something holds her up - something like a new face at the welcome hall steps, looking rather confused. Or... not really confused, but so many different things that it makes her confused.

In any case, she can't resist helping, so have a small, very skinny girl in an oversized, old-fashioned cloak, a mid-sized bag slung over one shoulder.]

Hey, um - are you okay?

[Action is a-okay! I'm easy and so is Keith!]

[The girl isn't on the screen. She's on the other side of it. Keith puts his introductions aside for the moment and smiles. Still holding his helmet under one arm, he salutes her with the other.]

Yes! I'm okay-- I just got here, so I'm trying to talk to as many of my fellow guests as possible. It's nice to meet you-- what was your name?

A Hero, huh? Whatever that normally entails, we'd be happy to have you join us, Keith.

I'll try to help everyone in whatever way I can-- I guess that's what I normally do as a Hero. Though usually I fly while I'm doing it. I can't do that here, but I will do whatever my powers here allow me to do. I can promise you that!
