Day 438 // Video

[cheerleader]

[Sitting at a small desk in her room at the welcome hall, Claire has tons of paper with her bubbly cursive writing etched all over it. She's found the library and has a small stack of books piled up on the desk as well. She's not usually the studying type, but something's caught her attention today and she needs some help figuring things out.]

I've got a few questions about powers. I know there's guides on the bracelets or whatever, but I want to hear what other people have to say.

[The pencil she's using is tapped against her lip a few times as she thinks over how to word things. And finally, figuring it out, she grins.]

Has anyone here been able to switch to something else that's in their house? Or to the power of another house entirely?

[She glances down at her paper, and writes a quick sentence down upon it.]

And okay, this question is probably pretty personal, but how many of you have different abilities back home? I've heard that a lot of people here do. I was thinking about it, and was curious to figure out if anyone here has had their real powers come back to them? It's kind of important that I figure that part out.

[She acts like she's going to say something more, but then her jaw clamps shut. Seconds later, the video cuts off and Claire waits for responses so she can write them down. ]

From what I know, unless you go home and come back, switching houses and using their powers isn't possible. Or changing to the other power your house has.

And as far as the powers from home go, I didn't have any but from what I've been told, we don't get them back. But some here might be similar to what people could do back home, I guess.

[cheerleader]

But it is possible to go back home and then come back again? Interesting.

[littlesurvivor]

It is. I'm not that only one that has.

[Which is to say. Most might remember when Clementine was younger. Going back home was the cause of her physical growth and the various other changes.]

[cheerleader]

Maybe I'll get to go back. Knowing my luck, I'd come back and have the exact same power. How much time passed when you left?


[She's growing more and more curious about the dynamics of this place, and how it works.]

[littlesurvivor]

Maybe. I wouldn't count on it. It's not something we can control. But....it was two years. Two years I was back home.

[Which. Is a heck of a long time for an eleven year old. Small wonder Eight was not more surprised and fumbling to deal with her now.]

[cheerleader]

I'd be almost eighteen in two years.

[She likes the sound of that. A lot can happen in two years.]

So you were pretty young when you were here the first time. Was it really hard on you?

[littlesurvivor]

It's a longer time than you'd figure.

[Especially in her case with the walkers. Two years dealing with them is enough to last a lifetime. To last anyone a lifetime.]

I was just turned nine when I came here, basically. Asgard is dangerous, sure, but it's nothing in comparison to back home with the walkers. At least we get fresh food, shelter, a proper bed. A lot of things people might otherwise take for granted make it seem like a paradise to me, anyway.

[cheerleader]

I guess if it's safer here, I'm glad you made it. Twice. Do you think you might ask to stay, once everything here is over and done with?

[littlesurvivor]

I don't know. I mean, they say that once the war is over we get to go back home. They never mentioned the idea of some of us being able to stay. I....I'd prefer to. If we did get the choice. No walkers here.

[cheerleader]

They better give you the choice. It wouldn't be fair if they didn't.

[littlesurvivor]

Having a choice would be ideal. But I'm not sure what might actually happen after this is over. It might be a case of we all have to go home. Even.....even if some of us here would just be going back home to die.

[cheerleader]

Would you be going back home to do that?

[littlesurvivor]

No. I wouldn't. But some people I know would be. Lee would.

[cheerleader]

Who's Lee?

[littlesurvivor]

A friend from home. He looked out for me, tried to help me find my parents back home.

[Which. They did. It just wasn't the result Clementine had hoped.]

[cheerleader]

He sounds like a pretty amazing guy. Kind of like someone I want to find here. Anyone that can get me back to my dad would be perfect right about now.

[littlesurvivor]

He is.

['Is' and not 'was' because. Well, Lee is currently here.]

Maybe your dad will come to Asgard?

He might. I don't think he'd do very well in a place where he couldn't make up all the rules though.

Oh. Well. He'd have to get used to it here. And I'm sure it'd still be good for you to see him again.

[Which. Only just now brings up the idea of her own parents possibly showing up. Clementine isn't sure how she'd feel about that given she last saw them as walkers.....]
