( oh, look! it's natasha in the bar. as usual. it's kind of where she hangs out (which might be a moot point, considering the rations). she's standing behind it, leaning on the counter, throwing a knife up and down in one hand. she doesn't seem to be paying a lot of attention to it, but the hilt keeps thwacking into her palm, so she's clearly paying enough attention to not lose a finger or two. )

Steve Rogers and Bruce Banner have been returned home.

( her voice is quiet. dangerously so. she's not brooding the way she was when tony left, but she's definitely .. not ok.

just before the video turns off, her face twists slightly and when the knife comes down in her palm again, she throws it, right at the camera - or just off to the left where it buries itself in the table, quivering slightly.

I'll need a long vacation after this.

[He smiles sadly.]

I hope you get one.

What about you? Anything waiting for you when you get home?

[He's quiet for a long moment, then shakes his head.]

No. Nothing.

[redhourglass]

( she's equally quiet, then she shrugs. )

Beats being dead.

[He sighs, running a hand through his hair.]

I'm not sure it does. It's all gone, you see.

Define 'gone'.

[secondborn]

[He spreads his hands in front of him, palm up, shrugging slightly.]

Gone. As in, my whole world gone, crumbling because of Yggdrasil's sickness. I've no home left to go back to.

[He says it quietly, steadily, because he's had a lot of time to come to terms with it, but the note of grief behind his words is certainly there.]

( she doesn't meant to pry or cause more pain. just verifying a fact. )

[He understands why she asks. It still stings a little, every time someone asks that, but he does understand the need to verify the truth.

But he knows. He was there, he was connected to the workings of the world in a way only two other people on the planet understood.

He watched it die, felt it crumble, and then was back in Asgard.]

( she doesn't say anything for a long while, just whistles. )

Are you going to try and stay here?

[He nods slowly.]

If there's a way, and they let me, then yes. I will.

[He leans forward onto the bar and sighs.]

But I know that it might not be possible. I'm... ready for it, if that's how it ends up.

[At least, he thinks he is.]

I don't think you can ever be prepared for something like that.

[He sighs again, running his hand through his hair.]

Yeah, maybe not. Maybe I'm just pretending I am. It's easier not to think about it, sometimes. There's a lot here I have to focus on, after all.
