When I was little, I was afraid of everything. I was afraid of lizards, I was afraid of cats, I was afraid of owls. My mother used to pet me as she said “it’s alright”, to tell me that she was there with me.

One day during winter, I was catching a bird by the river and I fell in. I almost drowned. When I woke up, I told my mom “Mom, I got it. I got the bird. All by myself”. But she was angry and I didn’t understand why - all I could think of was that I was able to catch the bird and I felt like I could do anything. But when I looked at mom again, I saw her crying and shaking and she was so scared. [ Ame’s ears drop a little, but only momentarily ]

I decided that I could do a lot of things, yeah. But what I wanted the most was to tell my mom “it’s alright”, that she doesn’t have to be afraid because I’m there.

I want to do the same in this place. I met a lot of people and I like a lot of people, and I want to show them it’s alright. Even if I look like a kid, I still think I can do a lot of things. And you, too. Everyone can. And it’s okay to be scared and angry, but there are still others and they are there. And together we make it alright. [ he hopes so, at least. Because the last attack to the city was rough, but they still made it, and he thinks they can win, in the end.

Your mom was probably really scared too. Mom worries about me all the time. [The thought makes Yuiko a little homesick but she still smiles a bit at the same time.]

How is your mom like, Yuiko-chan?

Mom, well she was really caring but strict. She works hard all day, so usually by the time she gets home it's time to start preparing for dinner. But she still takes the time to make sure I've done my homework and talk to me.

She also shows me how to do all kinds of things like knit and sew, and we make Jam from leftover strawberries we bring home each year when her and dad take off work. He's really supportive too, and works really really hard.

She sounds very nice. And teaching you like that sounds like fun.

Do you have any brothers or sisters?

[Yuiko shakes her head.] Nope I'm an only child.

Would you prefer to have one?

[made_4_ritsuka]

I don't know. I guess it would be nice to have a sibling, but we'd probably have to share a room since the apartment isn't really big. If I did I think I would want a little brother.

[okamichild]

A little brother? [ oh he almost smiles ] Why not a sister?

[made_4_ritsuka]

I don't know. I guess because if I had a little brother then I would have to worry about sharing clothes or anything when we're both older. Plus a little brother would be really cute!

[okamichild]

[ ame chuckles softly. Well, it's a good reason, isn't it? ]

Hm. me and my sister never shared our clothes.

You have a sister? Is she older or younger?

[okamichild]

She is one year older. Her name is Yuki.

What's she like?

[okamichild]

She likes school and she has a lot of friends. She says she is human and not a wolf, too.

She must be really smart if she likes school. Does she read a lot?

[okamichild]

Yes. We both do, just different kinds of books.

[made_4_ritsuka]

Oh, what kind of books do you like? [Yuiko was still kind of new to the idea of reading for fun, but Ritsuka had gotten into a few different things.]
