014 - Video

[There are twelve dead scarab carcasses in view all around Equius. He's not completely visible, and in fact most of him is shrouded in low light in the basement. He's clearly been cleaning the basement, and a few blue welts are visible on his skin. He has a contemplative look in hsi face, shrouded in the darkness of the room's gloom.

In front of him is a robot of Aradia, cold, lifeless and statuesque. It doesn't move. It's not clear until he speaks that he intentionally turned the feed on.]

It is my duty to inform you collectively that my moirail Nepeta Lejion has left the city. [He sounds howllow.] Some of you have images that she drew. I will send them on as she would have wished.

[A scarab came into view on the robot's shoulder and he grunted, knocking the thing off. His fist raised and slammed into the ground. with a sickening crunch.]

I could use a sparring partner. Preferably a durable one.

What? Why Nepeta?

[ That just seems too cruel, taking her and not him. She already has a very low opinion of this place... ]

[He growled. It was a feral, uncomfortable, difficult sound that rumbled through his throat. He wiped his hand off on a towel and tossed it to the side, glancing at the screen from behind broken specs.]

I do not know. Glob, I have attempted in the past to determine their pattern. Fixated on it early on. There is no reason or purpose behind it. This place was good to her. She actually liked it quite a bit.

Well I don't see why since there is not much to like... but still! If I know Nepeta, and I think I do, she wouldn't want to just abandon us!

From what Aradia has attempted to reassure us in the past, I believe it is because neither of us understood the dream bubbles personally. Our last memories were of Gamzee killing us. [He grunted sourly.]

You are right, though. She had no wish to leave us behind. Neigh, she had been hoping to remain as long as possible.

[ She just... sighs. One more strike in her books, among all the others, for this place. ]

I wish I could help. If you need some help around the shop, I'll try to come by. I don't know how often I can do that, though...

I will manage... but I would not turn down the companionship. [He grumbled a little.] The only other of our number present right now is Eridan, and Excessive speech with that sea-dweller rarely behooves either of us.

[He sighed, rubbing his forehead.]

I think perhaps the truly frustrating thing is that in the bubbles, she will remember nothing of this place.

Yeah but that is probably for the better. I am not Aradia but from what I know, it will probably save her.

It is my understanding we are both intact... if expired in those places. [He ran a talon along one of the cheeks of the robot.] Unfortunately, I am also informed that I continue certain excessive habits.

Where re you, Equius?

[ He'd seen. It's ... very sad. ]

I'm sorry, Equius.

[ No condolences are forthcoming from this one; Kieran doesn't even lift his head to look at the feed so it's hard to see any expression. His hair obscures it and his voice is flat and dull. ]

Arena?

I am in the basement of our hive. The door is unlocked if you wish to visit. The infestation should be cleansed by the time you have arrived. [Somehow, he expected Kaworu to stop by when he'd made the message. Perhaps even hoped for it.]

Sorrow is better spent upon her departure than myself. I am resilient. [Liar] She, however, enjoyed this place...

...Two hours. I have company attending that I had expected would call first. It would be ... rude to deny them this. [He sighed.] But yes, the arena would be best.

No weapons.

Don't need 'em. Two hours.

[ He terminates the call with just that... brusque, even for Kieran. Something's not quite right. In two hours he'll be leaning with his back against a tree near the main entrance to the arena, waiting restlessly. ]

[There were solid odds neither of them were in exactly the right frame of mind. By the time Equius stopped by to see Kieran, he'd cleaned up some and seen at least one person. He was calmer, which was good, but he still wanted to blow off steam...

And scarabs weren't cutting it.]

Human. Remind me, which house were you in?

[ There is a distinct lack of scarabs around Kieran, which may have something to do with the trail of carcasses he left behind him for half the walk. They seem to have decided to leave him alone for the moment, which works out best for sparring.

Equius' version of "calmer" probably beats Kieran, who is better described as "restrained." It's anyone's guess if he's slept recently and he's visibly tense, struggling at keeping something tightly reigned in. ]

Hel. I won't use it.

I appreciate that. It is simpler that neither is in Thor. It is difficult to hold that kind of potency back. [He nodded as he started to head towards the Arena. Where some might have thought to ask what Kieran was holding in, he didn't. If they were both here to get it off their chests, then so be it. It just made for a better fight.]

Yeah, strength's not a fair fight.

[ His voice sounds absent, like he's agreeing just to agree but really wants to say 'can we beat the shit out of each other now?' Like it's just smalltalk he can't be bothered to attempt today. He follows Equius into the arena, still not offering condolences for his departed. Sorry trollbro. ]

Safe word?

[The concept was foreign to him. He'd had it explained once, but the whole notion made little sense. The lack of condolences didn't bother him. He barely knew Kieran, so he didn't expect them from him, and Nepeta had never mentioned him, or not much anyway. When he was asked, he simply raised an eyebrow once and popped his knuckles.]

I don't do safewords. Let's just not kill each other.

[And that was pretty much the last thing he said as he bellowed and charged, fist pulling back and surging forward. He was definitely of the same mind as Kieran here.]

[ The problem was that every now and then Kieran lost track of how close to dead he'd beaten someone. He didn't have the blackouts anymore but still wasn't the bets at self-control. That's what Ash was for. Ash...

Equius made himself a distraction at that exact moment, though, and Kieran managed to snap back in time to dodge. His acquaintance's fist just brushed his hair, and while he was still close enough Kieran spun to slam and elbow into Equius' back. No pulling punches, no caution for a lesson, and no one to hold him back. He let go of the rage and grief he'd been holding tight inside for use as fuel.

They'll most likely not kill each other. Probably. ]

[So a friend of his left huh?]

Was she your friend? I don't know her but ...I'm sorry.

[Good. He could dodge quickly. When the elbow came down, Equius wasn't dodging. He planted is foot hard and didn't give, though he gave out a satisfied grunt with the force of the blow.

One arm grabbed for the arm that was thrusting down. His other balled into a fist and went to try and slam hard against Kieran's ribs. Oh, he was enjoying himself today.]

I don't see why not. Even though we don't know each other that well, compassion for others is always the right thing to do.
