01: ☾ Video/Action
[ Nine has been busy this morning. He's gone walking from place to place, seeing all the major landmarks that he can, going from the Great Library in Odin to Draupnir in Freyr and now to Gefion Park in Baldr, where he can be found seated on a bench, arms spread out to the right and left of him as he takes in the fresh air and the splashing sounds of the water coming up to meet the shore.
It's pleasant, and it's calm, but even as he sits there, it's clear enough that he's not sure what to make of this.
They're here to fight a war, and with the city being so recently turned upside down by the flooding, this moment of calm feels out of place somehow. Of course, he could be very wrong, but in his experiences, reprieves are often very brief, and it wouldn't surprise him if that holds true for all of them. And that's only the tip of the iceberg of the things that are on his mind, really. As he takes a look around, he says: ]
If I didn't know better, I wouldn't believe a flood had just swept through here.
[ After that, he doesn't say much else, because why ruin the silence with a lot of pointless talking?
As to what he's doing sitting on this bench, well, he's come to the conclusion that he's still got quite a few questions about himself and also for his other selves, past and present, that are roaming about the city. But short of going up to one or two of them who seem most relevant to his questions, grabbing them by the collar, and demanding answers (that's just far too drastic, and not likely to get results), he doesn't know what to do.
And that is why he's there, keenly aware of consternation coiling its way up through him the longer he sits there until it seems as though something's about to burst.
But instead of bursting, Nine just squares his shoulders and stands up abruptly. ]
Well, come on, you're not getting things sorted sitting here.
[ And it's on to the next landmark spot, unless someone wants to intercept him. ]

Action
What's not getting sorted out sitting there now?
[What can she say? She's a curious person.]
Action
Getting some answers, of course. Well, that and getting used to the layout of this place.
Action
You're new here then! I'm still getting used to it as well. Still trying to get what answers I can, but my dads have managed to pull together a lot before my arrival, so I've tried to learn what I can from them.
But hello! I'm Jenny! It's a pleasure!
Action
[ That still bothers him, but he's getting over it. ]
Your dads are here?
[ He finds that interesting; well, that and her plural use of the word 'dad'. ]
Well, hello, Jenny, I'm the Doctor.
[ No, he has no idea who she is or why she ought to be important to him.
And therefore, incoming bombshell in 3, 2, 1.... ]
Action
She just looks at him for a second, not entirely surprised by finding out who he was at this point.]
The Doctor? In that case, hello dad! I don't know if I'm ever going to get used to so many of you around. Which one are you? Obviously not one that knows who I am, so somewhere before your Tenth face. You're not the Eighth, Sixth, or Fourth either since I've met them and I know they don't look like you.
[See, she's smart. She remembers and pays attention, and she's sort of starting to get used to them. Just a little though.]
Action
What's that about, then? [ This has to be a joke, and it's not really funny either. Only it seems she's serious, given her mention of his other selves.
Well, they could have warned him about this. ]
Action
I'm not joking. You just obviously haven't made it there yet. I come around during your tenth face. Two hearts and everything. Completely related.
[Okay, she'd be lying if she didn't say she wasn't enjoying his reaction.]
Action
No, and I won't make it there, will I?
[ Because whatever she's going on about doesn't happen to him, at least not the him with the face he's got. ]
Action
[Bright side.]
[Video] Is this okay?
[ Really, it's less being surprised as it is marveling at humans for being so fantastic. It's not a new realization to him, but it never fails to please him when he sees it in action. ]
[ But really, she's hit the nail right on the head: he's not much of a talker. Why use a lot of words when something can be said quickly and concisely and still have the same meaning? ]
[ He's not really getting how changing who he is will help. He talks enough when it counts and when it's absolutely necessary, but other than that, he can be pretty taciturn. ]
Well, you're the Doctor, I should think you would know why saying more than a sentence might help people better understand you. We can't all be the TARDIS who understands you merely by thought.
Well, I still think I say enough, even if what I say's not very long.
[ And, well, he has his moments, but those are few and far between. Which might prove Alice's point. ]
You don't have to be the TARDIS to understand me, not really.
Mnn, I do wonder at that.
Then ask me questions. Don't just tell me I need to say more. If you want to know me, then ask me things.
[ Seems simple enough, doesn't it? He's trying not to be, but the way she's saying things is making him feel a bit nettled. ]
You say you want to get to know me, but then you turn around and say there's other things you should be doing. And I'm not going to argue about that, because this isn't really the best time, but you are being just a bit contradictory.
[ It's not too complicated, even if the circumstances they've been thrown into are. ]
