[1] Gene Splice - Mohinder Suresh - Video
[It's true. It's taken him some time to get himself settled given the current state of things (both physically and with his own inability to believe his lot straight away) but now that he has, Mohinder has devoted some of his attention to figuring out this communication device. There are several false starts before he manages.]]
My name is Mohinder Suresh.
[Though he looks Middle Eastern or Indian, he has a purring British lilt to his voice.]
A few days ago, just after the flood waters receded it seems, I arrived here without knowing why or how I might be tasked to help so that I may one day return home.
I'm sorry to say that I still do not know, but I am willing to learn. My skills might be few here. I am-- I had been a geneticts. A lecturer. A researcher. Until recently, I taught classes at a University in Madras on human evolution.
I was also told that I might have an ability. In my world, such things are possible to a few with evolved human genes. I do not possess such markers in my genome, however, so I am not sure how this might even be possible.
[Yes. He's always quite verbose.]
I would like to talk with anyone willing. I could trade information for...cleaning perhaps. Or cooking.
Thank you.

Except here. But that's another matter entirely.]

[He's truthful in that sense.]
It's why I've offered more mundane skills in lieu of drawing blood and researching genetics, however. I'm rather sure my skillset is worthless otherwise.

As horribly stereotypical as that sounds. A doctor in India, a cab driver in New York.
[But at least he smiles.]
Cooking is far less perilous.

You don't have to repay people for talking to you.
Though if you're that desperate for a job, I think you might be able to find something more mid-range than the extremes you're getting at.

Hello again, Doctor McCoy.
What sort of work do gods and their people need? [That might be tongue in cheek.]

So, remind me again, which one is genetics?

[Kids? What sort of beings brought children into the mix?!]
Genetics is. Is. Well. The study of genes.

Dr. Suresh!
[And since he's been drug into things involving her and her family, she just expects him to know who she is. Because that's how horrible of a person she is.]
If you're here, maybe my dad is too. You haven't seen him, have you? Or Peter, maybe?
no subject
I'm afraid that I'm not quite familiar with who your father might be...
[But Peter? Now Peter he does know.]
Do you mean Peter Petrelli? I haven't seen him since-- Since I was last in New York.

Tell me of these "genetics".
[ For from what he has glanced at in Odin's Library, they might very well offer him the key to finding indisputable proof based in sciences that the Maesters of the Citadel could have only dreamed of. ]

There are specific markers on the genome, passed down from mother and father, that determine the phenotype -- the appearance -- of everyone. For instance, my skin is much darker than yours because the markers on my genome indicate that I ought to have dark skin on account of my parents both having dark skin, Recombination of DNA at ever loci is what makes brother differ from brother, sister from sister, aunt from grandchild.

If you want answers, you might want to be more clear about what house the Gods put you in.

[It still bothers him, all of this 'Gods' talk.]
Though your question is fair. I was told Odin when I woke.

so, ego aside:]
How do you feel about tea?
[excuse the off-topic Irish drawl, Mohinder dear, but conversations of import are always best had over a beverage!!]
I can stretch to coffee if you prefer.
video
I'll admit that tea is the best thing I've heard all day.
[He smiles because he's prone to smiling and because he is, fundamentally, and for all of his genius, a terrible idiot. It's as if he gravitates towards the wicked and those likely to do him or others harm.]
And I'd certainly be grateful to share a cup with you. Thank you.

Will you show me how to use the microwave?
[You should probably offer Mohinder what he wants first, Athelstan.]
I- I know many things of these gods. Where- [when] -where I am from, we worship them. It seems that not many here do.
no subject
I would show you how to use the microwave even if you don't have anything to tell me.
[Making enemies is dangerous. If there is magic here to heal people and yet need for a forensics unit, he's worried]
Where I come, peoples in the past worshipped these gods. Perhaps a few pagans still do.
I'm not sure of my way around. Which place do you stay in?

What was it that you researched about genetics? Such study does not exist in my time, but it's come to interest me since I've learned a little about it from others here.
no subject
[If there's one thing that Mohinder is always willing to discuss, it's his research. He's yet to learn how very idiotic that is.]
I am most interested in the relationship genetic mutations of the human genome play on evolution and how they have managed to gift certain individuals with formerly thought of as supernatural abilities.
Naturally.

[ Clearly he doesn't think so, since he's frowning a bit. ]

How do you mean, shadows? Can you cast them? Hide things in them? I would think darkness could be useful.
