[When the video kicks on, Athelstan is in the middle of scrambling backward, his fingers closing around the axe in his belt. The hovering touchscreen, of course, follows him back and he instinctively slashes out at the hologram as it chases him through the room.
Through sheer dumb luck, he manages to hit the button that halts the screen's movement so it stops advancing on him, and after a few moments of sitting on the floor, staring in terror at the bright screen that seemed to appear out of nowhere, Athelstan pulls himself up on his elbows and takes a deep breath.]
Deus meus.
[The Latin is deliberate, and it takes him a few more moments to actually calm down and approach the recording screen again.]
This is... used to communicate? [It's an interesting enough contraption, and his brows furrow a little, reaching out a tentative hand to touch the hologram, head tilted as it makes the screen flicker before him.] With no ink or parchment... fascinating. You others with this ring, you can hear my voice through this? As if I were next to you?
[He grasps the concept quickly enough, it seems, and pokes a little more at the screen, widening and shortening it in turn.]
I... I am Athelstan, a follower of your god Odin. I did not expect to find Valhalla so soon into my days- [or at all, really...] -but as I am here now, I suppose I must offer myself to the service of the gods. If anyone can help me... the magic of Asgard is something I have never experienced before. I am unfamiliar with many things in this land. As a matter of fact, I-
[Aaand he manages to shut the recording off in mid-sentence. Go figure.
Help?]

[Gentle teasing for the newcomer, always the way to go.]
I'm guessing you meant to say you need help learning how to use the bracelet.
[Holy shit there's a face on the screen now. Right. He can handle this. He can totally handle this. He's a free man and stuff.]
-as a matter of fact, I'm not sure how any of this functions. Walking through the streets is like walking through another world... which I suppose it is. [There's a slight pause.] And help with the bracelet would be preferred.

We could hear you until that part when, you know, you turned the feed off.

It was not my intention. I've never... the magic of the gods is not something I have seen in my lifetime.

Some people can hear you as if they are next to you. [This dog is so terrified it's amazing she's held her bladder together.] Because some people are next to you.
Like me.
[He probably should have stopped it but there's some things he can take on, and there's some things he cannot.
One of those is an axe.]
video;
You are? [Cue him turning rapidly because what the hell, Will. Upon not seeing his unlucky suitemate in the room with him, Athelstan's brow furrows a little and he turns back to the screen.]
...is this some sort of joke?

This is, for better or worse, not the afterlife. And you speak excellent Latin for a follower of Odin.
If you would like some help with the bracelet, I can do that. It's rather confusing at first.

[He looks somewhat embarrassed that she caught him with that and looks away for a moment before nodding.]
Assistance would be appreciated.

[Kim's at work in the storeroom of the tea shop, working on inventory at the moment when the video went on, then off. She turns it on again, tapping the screan a little to get his attention.
Hey..buddy? Maybe not want to tap the jewel again until you're done talking or it'll turn off.

Yeah, we can hear you. Loud and clear. [He eyes the axe somewhat warily, but otherwise stays friendly.] We can see you, too--don't ask me how it works, I haven't worked that out.

[He nods, reaching out for the hologram as if to touch Bucky's face- but of course, his fingers go right through. Interesting.]
Who are you?

The bracelet serves more than one use. The grey woman in Gladsheim must have impressed upon you that. [ The whole not-taking-it-off thing. The girl on the screen gives him a curious look. ] These gods are already familiar to you?
video;
Still, at the question, Athelstan nods a little eagerly.]
Odin is my god. It seems strange that so many souls would be lifted into Asgard without knowledge or belief in the Allfather and his kin, but it has been told to me that things are not exactly what I expect them to be here.

Oh yeah, Odin's dead. --Well, near enough. Sorry about your god!

[Yeah the first question goes completely out the window at that.]
What do you mean, dead?

You'll get used to all of it, promise- I mean, most of the things here were pretty familiar concepts for me and it still took a bit to adapt, you know?
But, uh- I'm Ryan, I'm one of Hel's. Let me know if there's anything else you need, okay? I can cook and everything, so if the kitchen takes some time to get used to I can get something fixed up for you. Don't really figure anybody wants to spend too much time messing with the stove if their stomach's impatient, and all.
[He's... not sure if he heard that right.]
I don't wish to impose, but... I'm not even sure if I know what a stove is.

When you say that you're a 'follower of Odin' does that mean that you ended up in his care and received one of his powers?

[But he shakes his head at the question.]
No. The gentle Sigyn has taken me under her protection. I only meant that I worship Odin and his kin in my homeland.
