Video - Day 421

[Irving is a little unsettled, though unlike his younger self, he's much better at keeping his cool about it. Still the embarrassment he feels is powerful.]

Well, now. I suppose it had to happen eventually. [Being cursed, he means.]

I do apologise for any hurt or inconvenience the curse caused anyone.

[And that's all you get in a general sense before he moves on.]

In the meantime, the station would be interested in what's going on? If anyone would like to contact me or the station with information they have, I'll make sure it's disseminated.

In the mean time, as rumbles are wont to cause us havoc somewhere down the lines, I would suggest that everyone be careful and possibly have a medical kit or a friendly healer near by.

Welcome back, Braxiatel. [Her smile is wry and she's relieved he's himself again, with his familiar face elder face.] In case you need me, I'll be splitting my time between the clinic and the hospital for now. It seems warranted.

[He's about several times quieter than he would be.] You will remember to get some rest, won't you.

I'll remember. I'm...managing better with the healing, now. And I seem to have a greater energy reserve now, so, that helps. [Ril offers a warm smile.] You should come look in on a surgery sometime, if they permit. I've got a decent grasp on how to use my surgical skills with healing, now.

[There's a slight pause.]

I left you some Earl Grey biscuits for your tea at the station. I wasn't sure-- [She gestures, the motion quick.] Well, I thought you and Romana might like some.

Well, I wouldn't want to disrupt the patients. [He smiles.] And I hope not to become one, if you don't mind. I shall have to take your word for it.

Oh, I'm sure someone will find their way into having them eaten. [He goes more serious.] Thank you, all the same.

If you do, you'll have nothing to worry about. [Ril shakes her head, laughing.] And good, as always, you're very welcome. Mind, I made enough for a small army at the least.

I'm sure there are some who might view that as a challenge.

Well, it's not like that's the end of the cookie supply. I'm sure I can make more.

Mm, right, then. [She nods and lets out a slight sigh.] I'm glad you're-- [Ah well, she waves dismissively. Himself, perhaps. No. More like the himself she knows.]

[He doesn't really respond to that.]

[She nods, then, and terminates the call.]

Welcome back, uh...Irving? Braxiatel? I don't even know what to call you. The cursed you was preeeeetty adamant about me calling him Braxiatel...

[She's only a little confused because she doesn't want to offend him.]

And you be careful, too. I mean, with the tremors and all that.

[He smiles.] Thank you. Irving is quite right. And he was. Unfortunately, at that age, he and I did not get along.

He seems a little rude. Or maybe that's just because of me? I don't know.

He was rude. But then, so was everyone at the Academy. And one is inclined to be rude when you've been snatched without warning to a place and altered. So it was a multitude, but not you.

[That...really does sound awful. Now she feels bad for bombarding him with questions.]

Then...how did you end up so nice? Not that I don't like you being nice! I'm just...curious.

I gained confidence. [His younger self had to practice to become the Icicle, so any other answer would imply that that wasn't true.]

He seemed pretty confident to me. But I guess I'm not an expert.

He'd have been pleased to hear that. But he was faking it, because that's how you survive at the Academy.

By being fake?

Do a degree. More by being untouchable.

Above the various humiliations and injuries students inflict upon each other. A defense mechanism, if you will.

That's...awful. Horrible! Why would they do that?

It wholly depends on the student. For some it's merely showing their power. For others, it's a matter of the best defence being a good offence. Others may just be oblivious to things that aren't about them.

Well that's just... rude!

[Anna huffs, essentially blowing her bangs up into the air.]

You'd figure they'd want to help each other out instead of being awful to one another.

[He just keeps himself from laughing at her reaction. It's cute, despite the fact that none of this is actually funny.

But the moment passes and leaves behind regret.] Some of us try, but… [His eyes go to a far off place, long ago.] sometimes the pressure just gets to us and we're… lost.

[So many meanings to lost, isn't there.]

...I'm sorry, Irving.

[For asking? For what he had gone through? She doesn't specify, but it doesn't make her statement any less sincere.]

[He smiles at her. It's not her doing or fault.] Most kind, Anna.

And uh...sorry. About being rude to the younger you.

[Because she had been and felt it appropriate to apologize.]

Quite all right. I hope we're still good friends?

[He's pretty confident, but it's a further acknowledgement of his own young self's bad behaviour, so why not.]

[Anna doesn't even hesitate when she nods her head.]

Of course we are! Or...I hope we are. We are, aren't we?

[He smiles.]

By my count, that's just what we are, yes.

Oh! Good! Great, even! Yes, thank you! I'm glad we're friends!

Maybe they'll be done with us now. For a while, at least.
