Hello. My name is Quatre Raberba Winner. I have just arrived here, and have been told a few things, but I am curious if there is anything that the standard information doesn't tell us that anyone knows.

Yes, I am. My name is Tohzuki Suzuya. [A beat.] You've only just arrived as well then?

Yes. Just today.

It's very nice to meet you, Mr Suzuya. That is the correct way to address you, yes? [The name sounded Asian, so he wasn't sure if he had the order correct.]

[Suzuya seems a little too familiar to him for a first meeting, but...] You don't need to call me mister. I'm still too young for that.

Oh. [He looked a little embarassed.] I was just trying to be polite. Am I using the correct name? I do know that some cultures have them reversed from others.

No, it's all right. [He quickly reassures.] I would eventually have asked you to call me by my given name, anyway.

[Apologetic smile!]

Well, if it's alright with you, then. I don't mean to be rude.

It's definitely all right. Where are you from, if you don't mind me asking?

I'm from the L4 colony cluster originally. [Because everyone knew what that is.] Where are you from?

The L4 colony cluster? [S-so confused.]

Ah, I'm from Japan.

Yes. It's one of the ... [He trailed off for a moment.] Ah, yes. There are people from different worlds and times here, correct? So you may not know of the space colonies. That's quite alright. I can't imagine it's easy hearing about different worlds.

For me, Japan is part of the world nation now.

[He doesn't comment on that, mostly because the thought was still too confusing for him, and while he understands it, it was something hard to digest.] No, I can't say I'm familiar with it.

The World Nation?

Yes. At the point that I am from, the entire Earth is merged into one nation. It has benefits and difficulties compared to having separate nations, but we have been trying to make it work and maintain peace.

Wouldn't it be difficult to maintain a proper line of communications for authorities? I imagine a whole world as a nation is even more of a problem than the individual ones we've had to this day.

It isn't easy by any means, you are correct. But it is something we are determined to do and it helps prevent wars.

If you don't mind me asking, how exactly did you manage that? As far as I recall, relations between several countries are rather hostile, so I can't imagine everyone simply agreeing to be one nation.

It took a very long time. Relations between countries do tend to fluctuate and shift in nature. A lot of things going on were also well-intentioned at first. Removing borders gave people less reasons to fight over them. However, not everyone was willing to go along with the government that ended up in charge. As protests sprang up, the government gradually became more and more oppressive.

Naturally, the people revolted. When the wars ended, a new government was put in place over the world nation... a government that had more representation and responsibility to the people.

[There was a pause at that as he digested the information, before he nodded.]

Though I suppose they still functioned as individual countries? I mean, with all the different cultures and languages, it would be hard to get everyone to communicate I think.

To some extent, yes. Most places are allowed a certain level of autonomy, as each country knows most what it needs, but there is an upper level of government that helps to maintain peace and relations between each area, and helps to establish a level of globalism instead of nationalism.

I admit it's a little hard to imagine without actually seeing it in action, but that's still rather impressive.

I am just glad we were able to accomplish as much as we did.

It's something to be proud of, definitely. It's quite a big task to take on, especially for several nations.

It was. And it has been hard to keep going, but we have done it so far.

It has been good speaking with you, but I think I should be going now. I want to familiarize myself with a few more things around here.
