[ well this is new. there is no face to go with the name 'Jamie Moriarty' but there is certainly a name attached to this little greeting. ]

Good afternoon, Asgard.

This introduction is overdue and I fear I can do nothing about that fact aside of asking for your forgiveness. I trust you will all understand how busy and demanding times in this city can be.

I hear you are not overly fond of riddles which I do not find odd. What is Asgard if not a complex riddle? But I would greatly appreciate if you consider this one. I trust those who would solve it shall find themselves with an interesting subject to discuss.

Because you cannot. You almost make it sound like a choice when in fact, it isn't; isn't it?

If the riddle was indeed about math, you would have been correct. As it isn't, I reject the statement.

Petrarch's importance in the development of poetry can hardly be overstated--but speaking personally, I'd rather read of the Dark Lady than Laura.

[ Stella, Laura, it's all the same. change the name and get a book of beautiful, sad, pining, heartbroken sonnets. she considers the point before making her own. ]

My love is as a fever longing still - indeed. is she very different than laura? they fill the same poetic role.

I find it difficult to imagine Petrarch saying of Laura,

And in some perfumes is there more delight
Than in the breath that from my mistress reeks.

I'm afraid we haven't been introduced. Evelyn Carnahan - it's always a pleasure to meet someone who appreciates literature.

[What one is to make of the other comments Moriarty's garnered from the post...well, she's undecided.]

Probably not. Or he would think it of her and never think of writing it. Alas, we can never know, unless the gods somehow miraculously bring him forward to answer such.

Likewise, Miss Moriarty. Have you been in Asgard long?

Look, I can spend precious time and hours wasting over that riddle in an attempt to solve it, or I can just cut straight to the chase and ask you what I want to know most: Boy-Jamie or Girl-Jamie.

I do not know the answer. Do you?

[ it's a neat little game, isn't it? she writes 'hope' and Moriarty would say 'expect'. she never did understand hopes. ]

Long enough to find myself in need of an intelligent conversation.

[ which is a compliment of a sort. Jamie used to count Sherlock as the only one equal to her but since then she had learned. she doesn't want to make the same mistakes again. not with Joan Watson, nor with anyone. So she doesn't dismiss easily even if it is tempting. ]

Why. Would it be less shameful to have been beat in a game by a woman more so than a man?

I have written it with a solution in mind.

Of course not. It's just that I'd prefer to take the woman out to dinner.

[ jamie would have struggled and waited and struggled again instead of asking but then jamie is jamie and a few more have actually solved it. why not. ]

I've got plenty of other talents that aren't riddle solving.

What is a sonnet?

[ THIS ONE IS SO MUCH WORSE THO WHALE. ]

But what would be her condition, alas. Solve the riddle and perhaps she'll indulge.

[ oh no. really? really? she wonders if this is ignorance or perhaps sonnets do not exist in their world. ]

The sonnet is a form of a verse which has 14 lines, a rhyme scheme and a particular line length.

A verse and rhyme scheme?

[ she shakes her head, considers an explanation and then her mind simply produces an example. Petrarca. 134. And minds like her remember it word for word. ]

I find no peace, and all my war is done;
I fear and hope; I burn and freeze like ice;
I fly above the wind, yet can I not arise;
And nought I have, and all the world I seize on;
That looseth nor locketh holdeth me in prison

This is poetry, I believe. It means something to you, but nothing to me.

That's quite something to ask for.

While I try to work that one out. Moriarty? Any connection whatsoever to the other Moriarty in Asgard?

There are only two possible answers.

I can see why you would think so. Jim and Jamie, after all. He is a dear friend of mine, nothing more.

[ isn't it the truth, after all? they are not one and the same. they have mutual respect and similar interests but that's a whole other story. ]
