[she & Booker discussed her learning how to properly fight & use a weapon on the train back from Alfheim & the more Elizabeth thought about it, the more she realizes that it's something she needs to do sooner rather than later.]

I'd like to ask a favor. [her bracelet is set on her dresser & on her face is a look of concern as she pets a sleeping Jack on her lap.] I want to be more useful in the upcoming battles, so I'd like to learn how to properly fight. If it's not too much trouble, would someone be able to give me some lessons? I'd be willing to learn anything you'd be able to teach me.

[She was glad to see her back in one piece. Admittedly, the topic was a bit of a surprise for her, but still, it was something she knew what it felt like to want. She hated being defenseless.]

You can go to the citadel, but I'm willing to teach you too. It's just... I don't fight the way some people do.

How do you fight? Is it really that different?

I aim to kill them, before they ever have the chance to pull a gun on me, if I know they're the sort that I would end up needing to kill anyway. If it's not to the death, lots of nasty, debilitating strikes.

I don't fight nicely, Elizabeth.

[she remembers where Samantha works & something clicks.]

... Ah, I think I understand.

[She sighed and smiled at her softly.]

I'll teach you how I fight, gladly... but I don't want you to cover your hands in blood unless you want to be like me. If not, I hope you can get the training you need.

[Elizabeth smiles, lifting her gaze from her lap] I appreciate your concern. [it definitely reminds her of something Booker would say.]

[She sighed softly.] I'd say I'm going soft, but it's just that I started caring about a few people here. You're one of them. Let me know if you ever need training.

I'm happy you feel that way, Samantha. You're one of my dearest friends. [something she's never had before so she's always grateful.]

I've been all right, all things considering. What about you?

[She had a small, silent laugh at her own expense and turned it into a relatively warm smile. She suspected that she was almost entirely in the 'friend zone' with Elizabeth despite everything. Still, it was nice to have her as a friend. If there was ever a consolation prize with the woman, this was certainly worth it.]

I do care a lot about you too, Elizabeth. You're a good friend. As for me, I've been ... ok. No real personal setbacks, though I wish I could have gone with everyone. Been working on potions, trying to have a moment of freedom here and there.

[in Samantha's defense, Elizabeth may be a little dense with how her friend feels but she's more than happy with their friendship either way.]

I'm glad you were safe, though. [a smile.] Though maybe... next time we're facing another battle, maybe we could use some of your potions?

[That sort of matched Sam's habits: Either the dense ones, or the ones too pissed at her to think in those terms.]

It wouldn't be a bad idea to have them. I've got plenty that aren't that expensive. I know we sent out poultices to help keep the healers from getting overworked, but in fighting... it's hard to keep pace.

You could stop by the shop sometime. I'll show you what I have.

I have been meaning to visit it. I'd love to see all the types of potions you make.

Maybe the next time I take Jack for a walk.

That sounds like a good plan. I'll keep a couple dog treats handy just in case.

Hey, if I want to stay close to you, I have to appease the guard dog, don't I? Gotta be smart and remember who needs their bread buttered.

[Elizabeth laughs, waving a hand.] Oh, stop. Jack already likes you.

[but she's right. now would be the best time to do so until he gets bigger after all.]

[She snickered and nodded.] I know, I know. I still don't mind buttering him up a little more. No sense in not bribing him while I have the chance.

Well, if that's how you really feel, I'm sure Jack will appreciate it.

Hehe, it's also fun to give a dog treats. What can I say? Don't bring him over too much, or he'll get fat.
