Rachel's still pretty tired from it all, mostly because she had to flex her power's abilities more than she ever had to since she got here. so she'd gone comatose for a little bit, figuratively speaking, landing face-first on Stiles' bed ( ... not like that! which is the point of this anon transmission, but we'll get to that ) and not getting up until she was sure she couldn't physically sleep anymore.

which just left her spending a lot of time with Stiles.

which is such a- it's really, really great. it's the greatest. Stiles is pretty much the greatest! and considering everything the city just went through, she almost feels bad making a whole post about this. but she's torn, okay. her best friend from home isn't here, and Stiles is her best friend here, so she can't really ask him, so.

I hope everyone is doing well.

I have a question! Well, a request for advice, more accurately.

Let's say, back home, you were in a position of power. Minor, minor power. More like you were gifted with an ability that nobody else had. It made you valuable! But that power, and those abilities, were a gift, one that you had to make a promise to a very powerful person before being presented with said gifts, even if you were the only person qualified to receive them. A willing sacrifice! To prove that you were worthy of the gifts. And if you broke that promise, the gifts would be taken away. And you would probably be cursed, somehow, but you haven't put much thought into it because that's seriously scary. Anyway.

Part of that promise was that you swore you would never- [ have sex. lose your virginity. do anything that could possibly spoil your 'maidenhood' ] -eat chocolate covered strawberries. Ever. Now, at the time, you never actually ate a chocolate covered strawberry before. So making the promise seemed pretty simple. You could handle resisting that temptation, of all things. No big deal!

But then you show up here, and you're stripped of your powers and responsibility, and all of a sudden you're presented with, you guessed it, chocolate covered strawberries. And not just the cheap, over-processed fake kind you see on the shelves around Valentine's Day, I mean freshly grown, freshly dipped, homemade chocolate covered strawberries. They're the real deal. [ "They are being offered to you by a really, really cute guy" ..backspacebackspacebackspace let's not be TOO OBVIOUS, Dare ] Juicy and sweet and perfect. Someone is here and they're offering you strawberries and you find yourself, for the first time, seriously considering taking a bite of that forbidden fruit.

My question is - do you break your promise here, knowing that the person you made the promise to might never find out? Do you take the risk of them finding out, somehow, once you return back home, even though you don't even technically have those abilities here so the promise might not count? Or do you hold true to your promise and resist all things chocolatey and strawberry-y, because you gave your word and that's all that matters?

You started it. God, could that post have been anymore see through? You realize we totally ruined the thought of strawberries for anyone, right? And it just got worse.

[Napkins? Messy? Really? REALLY? But he was turning towards her, arm finding a place around Hale and over her that was sort of comfortable.]

You're the only person that knows about my oath. Besides Leo. ..And Nico. But they're oblivious, so. That just leaves you. And maybe I thought you'd be asleep. Like maybe people get that I wasn't talking about strawberries, but nobody knows it's me. So.

[ just gonna stare up at the ceiling yup kind of smiling, mostly blushing ]

Can we not talk about this please?

Why not? I think the fact that there's a potential possibility for strawberry enjoyment is a pretty... it's a pretty big deal. I mean, it's a big deal for me. Isn't it one for you?

[ tiny bit rushed- ] Of course it is. But, you knew there was a possibility. That's not news, is it? Because we've talked about it. And actively stopped ourselves from- going there. [ okay now she'll laugh, just a little laugh ] I guess I just needed to get that out of my system first. The wondering. [ she looks over at Stiles for a second, but really just a second because she ends up blushing more ] You make it hard to think. Not in a bad way, just- I suppose I just wanted to make sure I wasn't being the bad kind of impulsive. [ hhhhhuff ] I'm probably not explaining this right.

Honestly? I wasn't sure what to expect. I mean, I know we... ah, had to monitor ourselves there [BLUSH] but I sort of thought maybe that was it? Not like, that was it as far as ever um... I meant that was as close as we'd get. And I was okay with that. Because...

[He looked over at her, hand lifting, despite Hale squawking, to grab a curl and play with it around his finger.]

Because I'm okay with whatever you're okay with. I mean, I'm not going to say no, but... I'm not going to make you say yes.

I know.

[ all the nervous and bad tension kind of deflates when she says that, toes curling up under the covers. and she's back to brushing her knuckles along Hale's back now, instead of just kind of holding onto him like she was a second ago ]

You're being so cool about this even though it's all kind of insane. And knowing that is making it so pretty much every bone in my body is hoping I'll just ditch the baggage. It's such a- it's- [ taking a breath now yep ] I really, really like you, Stiles. My hesitation in all of this has nothing to do with you, you have to know that. The fact that it's a debate at all is like, kind of huge for me. I never had this problem back home, I meant that. [ and she's blushing again ]

[He's got this slow, small smile that's soft and just for her. Yeah, Rach, he knows.]

I do. I mean, I get it. You made this huge life-altering promise and just because you're here doesn't make it just go away. I know, Rach. And it's your thing to figure out. I'm trying not to... put too much input in since I'm pretty much voting for some serious strawberry orgies, but, it's not my vote. It's your thing. Your oath you have to deal with and all the good or bad is stuff you have to deal with when you go home. Not me. Hell, losing my v-card might actually save my life further down the road, but when I leave here... if I forget you... if that goes away...

[His hand moved to push into her hair, just playing fingers over her scalp as he sighed.]

I don't have any negative consequences if I don't, other than I'll miss the hell out of you.

[ hhhhup, sorry Hale, she's turning onto her side so he'll have to assimilate to that. but he doesn't seem to have trouble doing so, taking up the space behind her bend knees and resting his head on her shin. but now she's looking at Stiles and his point brings up a bunch of dramatic thoughts on her end, mostly that if they do remember when they go home, she would rather miss him and face whatever consequences on her own than see Stiles get punished for it too. Gods were assholes like that, sometimes. and Apollo really was more relaxed than most of the others, but she'd seen him mad before and it wasn't fun. at all. it was actually fiery and scary.

It's good that we're from different worlds, I think. As weird as that is to say. Back home, my oath goes so far as "no dating", which we've been doing pretty spectacularly here for a while now. And I don't feel guilty for it, at all, because I know "no dating" is there just to make sure the "forever virgin" thing isn't ever put in question. But, gods. If I met you back in my world, my oath wouldn't stand a chance. [ she chews her lip ] Sometimes I kind of wish Apollo was here, just so I could hash it out with him and stop feeling so guilty over it.

Do you think he'd say yes or no? Because you're not an oracle here, just like some people aren't... what they were back home. Would your oath actually be a thing here if he can't grant you that power? If he doesn't even have it himself?

[He was almost musing to himself out loud about that, noticing there'd been another 'Thor' who'd shown up and had gotten into a pissing match with this Thor. He'd been rooting for the newbie.]

It wouldn't be so much about asking for permission to break my oath as it would be getting the chance to explain myself. His ..blessing, for a lack of better words, would make all of this a lot easier to figure out. [ she's just going to reach up a bit to touch his jaw, her thumb maybe possibly brushing over the freckles on his cheeks ] I don't think he would be pleased about us, but he wouldn't try and say no to me about it, either. I mean, he's aware of how much the whole 'maiden' thing sucks, so he's always been pretty cool about upping the perks, so to speak. You make me happy, he'd respect that.

But what if they don't, ah, reset you properly when you go home and you're not a virgin anymore. Would he hurt you?

[Because if there was even a chance of that happening, Stiles was happy sticking to solo-strawberry enjoyment.

Well... you've gone home before, right? And you didn't remember anything? I don't see why it would be different for me. [ but yeah, that's her biggest fear with all of this. way to hit that nail on the head, Stilinski. ] Either way.

[ either way, she's about to straight up lie to Stiles for the first time ever ]

No, he wouldn't hurt me. He would take away my abilities and my position as the Oracle, but that's probably it. I'm pretty sure that would be enough punishment all on its own.

No, I didn't remember anything.

[Not even the death thing. Which, you know, he figured he'd remember until the day he... died. Hah. That was bad.

He looks over at her, hand sort of tightening in her hair, but he nods. Nods and leans in to give her a quick kiss.]

He'd better not. Otherwise I'll find a way to cross universes to kick his ass.

I know you would, hero. You'd find a way, if you were determined enough.

[ she's leaning in to steal a kiss of her own. aaaand then shes doing her best Stiles impression. it's not awful, but it's not Stiles. it's too Californian. surfs up! ]

And I kind of love that about you.

[Or he'd try until he burst a blood vessel or ten. No way would he be okay with just sitting at home if he knew she was getting in trouble for... well, for being with him.

He pet along her hair, liking the way it sprang up under his hand, smiling over at her.]

Good, because otherwise, we'd have a problem if you hated everything about me.

Fortunately, I don't make a habit of dating people I hate. [ and now her tone gets a little softer, not shy, but tentative. careful. ] If we're being completely, totally honest, there is only- one thing I don't particularly like about you. But it's something I know you'll --"fix" is a bad word to use there, but, it's something I know you'll handle with time. Pretty sure. [ oh, she's being vague and baity but she doesn't feel bad. it's not a bad thing. ]

[There was this sickening drop in his stomach when she said that, fear starting to build as he started to think about all the things she might not like about him. What if he couldn't fix it? Oh god. What if it was his face? His smell? His... god, what? What was it?]

Wh-- ah, what... what would this thing be? That I can handle? In time?

[ she doesn't mean to, but he gets so worried and she's kind of going "awohnosweetienono" without actually saying it, scooting in closer and shaking her head and- ]

I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I shouldn't have put it like that. [ and she shouldn't sound amused, oh damnit she feels bad for it ]

It's just- sometimes when you're making a joke that's kind of self-deprecating, I get the feeling you actually maybe believe it sometimes? Or like, when you make a comment about being useless- [ it gets her all flustered, and she's getting flustered right now just thinking about it ] -it. I get- [ and now she's reaching down to press her fingers against the center of his chest, like she's done before ] -it's that same little rage monster that gets antsy when I think about someone hurting you, only it's yourself doing it, and- andandand the idea of someone or something giving you a reason to believe that you're useless drives me so crazy, I just- [ and then her face twists up and she huffs and then she pouts the biggest pout she can, because that's the best way she can think to explain it ]

So, I don't like that.

But it's a you-thing, like I said. Even though I'm going to try and help you see how untrue it is every chance I get. [ hn ] Though I guess telling you that now might work against the idea, but oh well.

[The relief was just as obvious as the discomfort and he let out a short laugh, hand moving to rest over hers on his chest and smiling over at her.]

You can't get mad at me for bitching about myself.

[Well, she could, but he thought that was pretty pointless. But he was smiling now, happy his face had passed the test.]

You have a little rage monster in that adorable little self of yours for me? That's weirdly cute. And a little sweet. And pretty much all Rachel-y.

[No, that smile wasn't going away any time soon.]

I can so get mad at you for it.

[ and then she's squirming and grinning and Hale is getting all huffy about it, right up until he realizes how close he is to her feet and decides to distract himself with picking at her socks from where they stick out under the covers. so, basically those socks are doomed. oh well. ]

And I can also get mad at you for having the memory of a guppy- I've told you about that rage monster before, when we were at my place. You said you had one, too.

I knew you had the rage monster, I just didn't know you had it for me. And no way. No getting mad at stuff like that. It's like... unfair.

[Yeah, like, totally. God, he was a dork. But he was happy to tuck his arm around her and pull her in that little bit more. His bed was bigger than hers (THANK GOD), but that didn't mean he wanted to use it all up when she was there.]

I don't get mad, it's, uhm. It's more like a heartbreaky feeling. And then the rage monster gets mad over all the possible possibilities of someone making you feel that way. But me, personally, rage monster notwithstanding, it makes my heart hurt.

[ which is the truth, it's like a sinky feeling in her chest, but. well, that sounds dramatic, doesn't it? the corner of her mouth quirks up ]

-- So yeah, no pressure or anything. You're just breaking my heart every time you seem to forget that you're awesome.

[He was making a sort of whiney puppy sound as he scooted closer (if he could even do that), nuzzling in under her chin and trying not to smile too wide.]

Rach... I don't know whether to smack you or kiss you. Don't get heart hurt over me. I'm just being a dork. It's what I do. Scott's got the brave Alpha thing going on, Derek's a broody jerk, and I'm the comic relief.

[But it wasn't a bad thing. People needed to smile, right?]

[ she's so fine with nuzzling, the most fine. her hand is in his hair pretty much instantly, chin tilting up so they can get close without bumping around too much. ]

I have a feeling you're dodging the point on purpose, but I'll let you. Even though there's a little tiny Rachel in the back of my mind with a picket sign marching around in protest of the idea of you thinking it's okay to put yourself down to make people laugh, but, but. It's not like you do it all the time or anything, I'm not worried. [ she doesn't think he hates himself or anything, no. she just doesn't think he has any reason for self doubt ] I like your sense of humor. Obviously. You can make me laugh anytime. But I reserve my right to also think you're a greater person than you give yourself credit for sometimes. It's my right as a girlfriend, you can't take that.

[Every word is just making his smile less and less likely to ever go away. He's kissing at her neck now, trying not to laugh between them even as he's still smiling like a freaking moron.]

I wouldn't want to. You're the best girlfriend. Totally the fiercest. And it's nice knowing I have someone in my corner, rage monster and all. It also means you won't flip out if I do the same if you ever put yourself down or if something happens to you, because clearly our rage monsters were meant to be together.
