3rd Special Operation/video

[Petra is in one of the stores, near something she considers very, very strange--a CD. She picks it up, staring at the case, and then attempting to open it.]

"Christmas Music"....? This doesn't look like a record...[Afraid to break it, she groans, looking around for the shopkeeper. At that point, music started to play--Jingle Bell Rock, to be exact. And clearly, Petra gets into it, swaying slightly with the music. It was different than what she was used to, yes, but it was nice. She picks up the tune after a minute or two, then starts humming....

Until she remembers she had the camera on. She stops, shakes her head, and tries to look as if she could regain composure.]

So...what is this, exactly? [She holds up the CD case again.]

I haven't the faintest idea. Though I'd . . . well. If it says music, I think it ought to be music. In the same way these little bracelets are communication devices.

Ask the clerk. I mean, presumably there's some kind of walkman for it?
theshabbiestofmen: (Talk ☾ ....okay then!)

[personal profile] theshabbiestofmen 2013-12-14 06:15 am (UTC)(link)
I-- no. That's-- it's a device for audio tapes. But presumably, I mean, there's a device.

Remus Lupin. It's all quite confusing, believe me. My friend just came here; he's only just learning how to communicate via bracelet. You're hardly the only one.

Around two to three months.

[ it . . . plays music. he's never seen something like that either, so he's going to stare! the music itself-- it's a tune that's completely alien to his ears, a mix of jingles and a booming voice that-- someone made that? it was . . . surprisingly pleasant. and for a moment he wonders just where the hell it's coming from-- ah. the cd-?

it's so-- weird though, the situation. the calmness and the lack of "work"-- seeing captain levi and petra just-- living, basically. he almost . . . doesn't know what to do with it. ]

Is it playing music? [ but he does still have curiosity. ]

Where's it coming from, then?

[ the label was pretty misleading in that case and to hell if music comes from thin air ]

It's a CD. You need a CD player for it.

No, unfortunately not.

It's a CD. Much like a record, it requires a specifically designed player. It does store more music, if at the price of the flavour of a record.

Neither do I, I'm afraid.

The gods give small things if you leave an offering at the shrine. Or there are shops or someone can lend it to you.

Huh? That's a CD. It stands for Compact Disc. It plays music and sound, I guess... you haven't seen one before?

[That's really sort of entrancing -- she's never heard such a thing.]

That's Christmas music? It's not like anything I've seen and heard.

Although not nearly as lovely as "Gaudette" when it was sung by the church choir during Christmas Eve service.

[Hold up. Alice wants one now.]

Where did you acquire that? What district?

It's a cd. Pretty much a smaller advanced record, though they're getting kind of out dated too.

Well no, you'd have to use a cd player. The grooves are actually read by a laser rather than a needle point.

It's a CD! Been a while since I've seen one of those. Almost feels like I'm looking at some sort of ancient artifact.

[It pulls a nostalgic smile and a little laugh out of her, anyway.]

If you're not able to find the right sort of thing to play it on, I might be able to help you locate something.
