001 ☼ video
[An aggrieved-looking man in a stunningly ugly sweater stares at the camera. The sweater's glorious blinking Rudolph looks particularly festive with his glowing green eyes. A pair of pointed ears jab out from under a mess of long red hair, and his eyebrows could almost count as little wings, with their tips poking free from his face and mixing with his hair. To say he looks ridiculous would be polite.]
Greetings. [He hesitates for a moment before forging on.] I am Aethas Sunreaver, a new arrival and member of Odin's House.
Greetings. [He hesitates for a moment before forging on.] I am Aethas Sunreaver, a new arrival and member of Odin's House.
I confess that my introduction serves more than one purpose. My world is... quite different from this one. As such, I find myself ill-equipped to use several of the facilities.
[A single ear flicks in irritation.]
Notably, the laundry facilities. There is little I can offer in exchange for assistance except appreciation. Possibly conversation as well, but I claim no mastery of it.
[He pauses.]
Instructions on the 'vacuum' would also be welcome.

video; AETHAS!! :D
video;
I must refuse the credit, but I accept the compliment. I admit that your horns are quite striking. Are they bone or keratin?
[He tilts his head to the side, leaning forward to place his chin in his clasped hands. His elbows balance on the desk.]
video;
Both? Both I guess.
video;
Then much more like a gazelle than typical human-type horns. They are usually, barring magic, pure keratin. I apologize for the forwardness! My curiosity got the better of me. It's a pleasure to meet you, Mister...?
video;
[ He misses the whole latter half, and the question as well. Or at least, if he doesn't, he pretends he does. ]
video;
[He contemplates asking again, but if the child didn't wish to answer, there was little point. Sollux instead gets a smile.]
video;
[ He pauses a beat, and-- ]
Sollux. Who are you?

You can probably still hand-wash things, if you need to-- but, um, things really aren't that hard to get used to once you know how they work. I could try writing down instructions?
[Just peering curiously at the feed. There are a million questions he's stifling, mostly about Aethas' appearance, but they can wait.]
Re: video
I wish to avoid hand-washing, if at all possible. [What kind of respectable Archmage gets his hands dirty?]
Your offer is most appreciated, Mister...?
no subject
[...alright, no, the questions really can't wait, he is entirely too curious.]
You're some sort of elf, right? I don't think I've seen anybody with eyes like that at all, you've got to be from somewhere completely new, or-- or just unfamiliar, anyway. I mean, I like to think I've seen a lot by now, but...
no subject
[Aethas gives a half-bow, or as close as he can get while sitting.]
It is a pleasure to meet you, Mister Farrow. I assume you are human?
no subject
Close enough to it-- I mean, well, yes. Effectively. Human with a little less strangeness attached now that I'm here, I'm not sure if any of us have any sort of powers where you're from.
no subject
Many of you have one type of magic or another. It sounds as though it is uncommon in your world? But I may presume too much from the word 'strangeness'. My apologies, if so.
(no subject)

video;
It's all incredible, when it's not intensely frustrating. ]
Of course, Sir Sunreaver.
[ Something about 'mister' just doesn't seem to fit when someone's staring over at you with miniature headlamps in their skull. Sometimes, the old words were the best words. ]
I reside in Odin House myself, I can make my way down shortly, if you require an explanation of their function? I only recently learned as well; I can vouch that they're a bit of a tricky devil to figure out at first, but easy enough to pick up from there.
video;
That would be most satisfactory. I'm pleased that I am not alone! As fascinating as this world is, it seems that every new item means a new lesson to be learned. Intriguing, but tiring.
[He gives a small smile.]
You may call me Aethas. What shall I address you as?
video; -> action
It's been ages since he treated with any non-humans; winter leaves the Mermish sluggish and ill-tempered, and the current Centaur chief of the forest has been busy seeing to an internal coup. He's out of practice, let alone with one of a race so utterly unfamiliar. ]
Albus Percival Wulfric Bryan Dumbledore, at your service, Aethas. You're quite welcome to pick from any of those, although 'Albus' is likely the easiest for us both.
I'll head downstairs forthwith. I daresay that I should be easy enough to spot -- barring recent arrivals, I'm liable to be the only human in purple robes.
video;->action
I shall meet you there, Wulfric.
[He flicks off the video, any smugness layered over with the worry of what was to come. He'd prodded the machines earlier, tentative and wary, but the controls were foreign enough to keep any tinkering at bay. He rarely yearned for gnomes- let alone goblins- but the impulse crept in. If nothing else, they would be available to blame when things went wrong.]
[The trip downstairs took only a short few minutes; he clasped a basket packed with snowy white sheets. Their bottoms were folded in such a way to hide the dark brown stains. His sole attempt to craft tea had ended at the first sip. Water, he's convinced, was never meant to come out of a tap that hot.]
[He forces himself not to thunder down the last flight of stairs. It's a near thing, though he's grateful for it when he spies a man decked out in purple robes. He refrains from waving, despite the impulse, and straightens his back. Aethas is far from above using his height to his advantage.]
action
Seldom before have they quite so much resembled large, bipedal moths.
He lounges casual against the edge of the doorway, hands clasped neatly behind his back. He peers up from half-moon spectacles, that same little grin lingering at the edge of his lips as he steps forward to greet him. There's no hint of pause in the way that he reaches out for the basket. ]
Ah, Aethas! Here, allow me.
[ The machines stand still, white, and silent, a long lifeless line of metal boxes. ]
Now, I'm a new student to this as well, so I can't promise perfect results, but I'm certain that together we'll manage quite nicely. There should be soap -- the large orange bottle -- in that cupboard just over there, we'll need that first.
Arrived today, did you?
action
Late yesterday, actually! It took me some time to figure out the bracelet. While technology is not unknown to us, such networks are not. [He creeps over to the cupboard and digs out the orange bottle. The liquid's sloshing earns a wary look. Everything is a potential harbinger of death unless proven otherwise.]
I must say-- thank you for doing this. I can only imagine you have better things to be doing with your day! But it is appreciated, no matter the quality of the product. So long as none of the machines explode, it is likely better than what I would have produced.
[The engineers of Dalaran had, after a time, forbidden his explorations of their devices. Modera's smirk still haunted him. He slips back over, carefully unscrewing the cap off the bottle.

As for the vacuum, I generally allow Arthour to handle that infernal sucking contraption.
video;
If it was possible to delegate, I confess I would take advantage of it. However, for now, it is best to learn. It helps that assistance has been offered.
[He pauses.]
Are there many of your kind in this world?
Video
Trolls? I would say there are a handful of our number here at this time. You're speaking to another of mine right now.
[Vol'jin, he is not.]
video;
That I am.
[He frowns like Equius is Vol'jin.]
My world also has trolls, but they are much less pleasant: I have higher hopes for you and your brethren. Does your world have elves? We seem to be known to at least one individual.
Re: video;
Please do not tell me they are the gigantic, stupid, ugly brutes that turn to stone in sunlight like all these other worlds. No, we are Alternian Trolls, lords of our own empire spanning many planets.
I have never seen what you'd call an elf... they are the pointed-ear creatures, with the lanky, lithe builds, yes?
video;
One might even say they look like me.
[Aethas, you are less smooth than you think.]
You escape the fate of turning into stone, but none of the others. Trolls happen to have their own 'empire' of huts, blood sacrifice, cannibalism, and savagery. They are a most unfortunate race, though it sounds like you have little in common beyond name. Spanning many planets, you say? I confess to being quite curious!
[He isn't even subtle.]
