Anyone else get that lightheaded lack of equilibrium kind of tilt o whirl feeling when the gods decide to yo yo them back to real time for a little while?

Shouldn't take me too long from hel.

[ Tess is already heading out, pulling up the district map to double check Hel and Thor. She couldn't give him an approximate time frame but she figures he's not the impatient type, but then again she doesn't fully know him that well.

Maybe after a few rounds this will change. ]

[Dean's at the bar like he said he'd be. One of the perks of working the late shift is that he can be on the network as much as he likes and still keep the patrons occupied. It doesn't take much to keep a drunk happy.

He's still not sure who he should be looking for and realizes, probably for the first time, that he should stop setting up casual encounters via text message.]

[That might do him a bit of good but really, Tess ain't any better. This kind of technology has been lacking back in her world, and she'd prefer to keep most things limited to text (as much as typing is a thorn in her side).

It's a good thing he said he'd wait outside, she would've kept on walking past the place if it hadn't been for him standing there. Not sure what to make of the guy Tess gives him a once over as she pauses.]

You Dean?

The one and only.

[Dean pushes the door open to the bar for her, chivalry's not dead. He's been new here before, he knows what it's like. Maybe he's barking up the wrong tree but he wants her to be comfortable here.]

You must be Tess.

That's me.

[The fact that he holds the door open for her and allows her to enter before him almost makes her pause. Joel used to do this for her, once upon a time. Still does on and off, almost like it's a part of him that's never died--chivalry.

It's not something she expected out of anyone here, not in a world where the gods fight the giants.

Tess nods and heads in, looking around at the place and anyone who might still be out for the night to nurse a few drinks.]

Nice and homey in here.

Blame that one on Harvelle. That sorta thing comes from a woman's touch.

[Dean wasn't gonna take responsibility for it. Jo had the same eye her mom had, and knew how to rope in business. This place wasn't like the scummy dives he frequented in Loki or back home. It had character.]

[ Tess glances over at him, curious, a brow raised. ]

Harvelle--a special lady friend?

[That makes Dean laugh like he hasn't laughed in a while. If only Jo were around to hear that. Things'd be even better.]

Nah. Just a friend. She's not exactly tolerant of my crap.

[ Clearly she just said something extremely funny. It's probably a good thing, though, laughter is a good sign. ]

Her loss.

Yeah.

[There's a shimmer of amusement. She doesn't know him very well or the track record he has when it comes to friendships. If she did she'd probably be heading for the hills.]

We got time to kill. And I hear you got quite the stash of alcohol handy.

[ Tess nods to the bar. ]

That's one thing I've got in spades.

[Most people had friends and family in spades, or a heavy cash flow. What Dean had the most of was a body count and boat loads of liquor.]

Okay. What'll you have? It's on the house.

That makes one of us, then.

[Hers had been her reputation, a body count, ration cards, and a cache of goods that everyone wanted their hands on. Here she's got nothing, like starting from scratch.]

What do you got for whiskey?

It helps when you've got a limitless tab at one of the only decent haunts in town.

[There's a shrug of his shoulders. He knows he could be doing a lot more productive things with his time than spending it at the roadhouse but drinking at bars was his usual way of reflecting and lately he'd had a lot to think about.

When she asks about whiskey a wry smile makes it's way across his face. Dean pushes back from the surface of the counter and jerks a thumb in the direction of that particular poison.]

Anything your heart desires. Go ahead, give it a gander and then get back to me with your selection.

I'll bet it does.

[Tess looks over to the wall where the alcohol is all lined up and raises a brow. That's dangerous, letting her go there to have her pick. She squints in its direction and takes a few steps forward.

It ain't hard to make out the Jack Daniel's label.]

I see you got Daniel's. You might have a hard time gettin' me to leave now.

[Just as a heads up.]

You don't have to wonder about me. I'm covered.

[There's a shit eating grin on his face as he scoops up the JD and shuts the cabinet again. He ushers her back around to the side of the counter she should be on before he gets in trouble.]

First round's on the house. Everything after that you're gonna have to put in for.

[Tess goes to the proper side, hops up onto one of the seats at the counter.]

Fine by me. You do tabs around here?

I'd have to clear it with my boss, but yeah. We do tabs for people who've got their shit together.

[They weren't running a charity, but he had a tab, and so did a few other people. They paid it as they went and they were reliable. Dean grabs a glass and pours some of the whiskey into it for her and then a little for himself in a glass that's still sitting on the counter from before when he was drinking earlier in the day. He sets her glass down in front of her and picks his up.]

Cheers.

[Her glass tips towards his, saluting.]

[And down it goes, burning her throat and feeling mighty good. This is the first time she's had a drink since being back in Boston, before everything had gone to shit. It tastes just the same as the stuff she'd poured herself in Joel's apartment that morning.]

[After the salute Dean pulls his glass to his lips for an additional pull. He could drink until he was more booze than water but right now he was just enjoying her company. She was the first new recruit he'd met in a while that he'd really hit it off with.]

[Once she's done she sets her glass down. She doesn't say anything at first just takes a moment to observe the man on the other side of the bar.]

So any of these people here with you? The ones questionin' the influence you got on others.

There's plenty of people here from home.

[To answer her question it just wasn't just one of them but all of them, depending on the moment. So he just leaves it at that.]

A good handful. Some of 'em closer than others. I'm not complaining. I could be flying solo. Familiar faces aren't a bad thing.
