[Daneca's decided today is the day she makes her first post to the network. Frankly, she's still unsure about a lot of this. But she hasn't managed to find her way back home somehow yet, so that means she's going to have to pull up her bootstraps and figure this place out.]

So, I'm not really sure who I'm supposed to ask about this if there's anybody I'm even supposed to ask, but these powers we have here...

How exactly are we supposed to learn to use them? Just by doing it? Or is there some kinda of manual on it that I'm not aware of?

[Because that's the way her usual abilities work. But they were illegal, so she never really got all that skilled at it.]

Also, is anybody looking to hire anyone for anything? I don't really have any previous job experience, but I used to run a... [Daneca pauses a moment.] ...political group back at my school where I'm from. [She's still not entirely comfortable with getting in the specifics.] So, I've got some experience with organizing and managing and my people skills aren't that bad. I'm pretty much up for anything though if there's something I need to learn first.

It's from your will. You wish to do it and you will be able to.

There can be some mistakes at first, but with practice, your will to use the power will become much more clearer and easier to make it happen.

What's your power?

I've found that it's often instinctual. Which power do you have?

When learning how to use the power I was given I just practiced with it until I now feel I have a certain mastery over it. Like anything else I do believe the powers become more finely tuned with practice.

What power were you given? I have made a little study of this magic I might be able to give you some idea what you might expect from it.

It largely depends on the power you have, but the others are right—it does come from your will.

[Harry pauses.]

And, er, you might have to go for something that's not ... technically your dream job here.

It's that simple?

[She catches him murmuring to himself, but doesn't pick up what it is. It distracts her a second before she answers:]

Healing.

Did you have powers before?

I have Healing.

[Well, that's slightly comforting to know. Practice always makes perfect. She thinks this is going to be more useful than her usual ability from back home anyway.]

I was given Healing. I haven't tried to do anything with it yet, but... [She shrugs a little. Is it weird to say she'd like to try?]

Do all of the powers work the same or is there some kind of specific trigger for all of them?

I don't think I'd find my dream job in a place like this anyway. I'm really okay with anything.

So find someone who's hurt and concentrate on the wound. It'll kick in. Even a cold'll do.

Well, I don't think you'd use increased strength the same way as flying. But I do think it involves thinking about using it, yes.

What are you interested in otherwise?

Yes. There isn't anything too complicated to it.

I've only figured it out by trying to use it, and it took a while.

Healing is a wonderful ability! I have seen people perform great acts of kindness with it, healing wounds that would have taken ages to heal on their own!

[Leonardo would not consider that weird at all. He too could not wait to try out his power when he learned of it. It was very exciting!]

You should start small with tiny cuts and bruises. More serious injuries do seem to take more power to completely heal but over time I am sure you could master that too. Oh, and you should make certain to take breaks between attempts so you do not over tire yourself. Trying to do to much at once can cause you to pass out.

It all really depends on your power, little lady. Some you can't stop from coming upon you and some you have to keep testing out until it works.

I certainly don't want to steal any of the offers you get, especially since you've asked first, but for what it's worth you're not the only one wondering about jobs. Particularly those that require any sort of skills... though I don't know how one would go about checking references or verifying education or credentials in this kind of pangalactic setting.

The powers they "gifted" us with only advance if you practice with them enough, which is really stupid considering some of the ones they give people here.

You could have a go at some spots in my clinic, if you'd like. Organisation skills could come in handy.

I don't think there's a manual, unfortunately. I just found people that had the same power, learned how to use it from them, then started training at the Citadel.

That's not a little weird just walking up to people like that?

Are all the powers like that? They'll eventually wear you out if you try to do too much all at once?

[It makes sense that they would, but Daneca wants to be sure.]

I guess trial and error employing practices are in full effect around here.

How many different powers are there exactly?

Yeah? What kind of clinic do you run?

How long did it take for you to get the hang of it?

Who the hell's gonna care whether they know you or not if they're bleeding? First aid is hardly asking for someone's number.

Which is encouraging, in some respects. It does mean you can be whatever you want to be, if you think you can bluff your way through it. Maybe I'll become a firefighter at long last?

Ice magic. I tried freezing small things to practice.

That seems like how all these powers work. Start small, work your way up, I mean.

[She laughs a little.]

Do something easy that will get you some free food until you figure it out.

Guess you can't really beat a free food kind of paycheck.

I don't know. They might not trust it. Or they might want someone with more experience.

Whatever. You're in Sigyn, aren't you, if you have healing? That's pretty much do-gooder central. I bet you'd have a lineup out the door if you asked someone to train you or something.

But it really, really isn't that hard. If you're someone who should have power like that in the first place.

Some powers are just like that. Flying for example is not. It's something you have to test out until you get it right. A friend of mine had to work for it to get it to even work. But to answer your question, take Telepathy as an example. From what I've known, you start hearing things from other people you don't want to. Voices. Thoughts. One has to learn to control it.

[Being a telepathic from Loki, he knows first hand but won't let it on right away.]

Right, and it's not like any of the travellers have to work under too bad of conditions.

When your powers grow stronger you will be able to do more but right at the beginning it can take a lot of effort.
And it is not very pleasant to pass out from over use of magic... Too many people worry.

A... medical one?

Me? No. I'm a scientist. We all secretly want to be superheroes.

Two for every god house and there's...nine houses? Roughly there's eighteen that they pick from before bestowing it upon us.
