[This is not the first time he's woken up in a strange place.

He's starting to thing that someone out there is just toying with him at this point, but at last last time he wasn't really missing anything. This time, the timing was downright awful, and he's angry and worried as well as disoriented.

Still, he's doing his best to look friendly and smile when he turns his video on from his room.]

Hey, everyone. Looks like this is new to all of us, huh? Does anyone use this network that isn't from another world? It seems kind of weird to set something up just for us.

Also, has anyone here heard of "heaven's net"?

I wonder what kind of "fate" they have here...

So it's just fate then? [ a pause. ] Or...is it chance?

...I've heard the question asked before, that's all. I'd say it's an important one, but people have spent lifetimes trying to answer it.

It's definitely fate. Everything that ever happened or will ever happen is already written out, and Teiten -- it's kind of like God or something -- can rewrite it at will. I've seen it happen.

Being here, though... I don't know what that is. I think this is beyond even Teiten.

Everything's written out? That must be...a very long book. Longer than one of Varric's, even. And heavy.

[ it really does take all types. ] I can't say I've heard of a "Teiten" before. It doesn't sound like the sort of name one of the Old Gods would have, either.

It's not a book, though. It's Heaven't Net. It's kind of everywhere, or something. Only a couple of people can read it. It's really weird and I don't understand much myself.

[ well, he has heard stranger. ] All right, so it's...a net. That tells a story...called fate. [ it's not that he's skeptical. again--he's heard stranger. he's lived stranger. ] I just...want to make sure I understand what you're saying.

Yeah. It's a net that everyone's caught in. But no matter what, sometimes things start to fray, so Teiten can just rewrite everything back to the way he wants it to go. There are only three other people that can see it, too... But I've seen what happens when it's rewritten.

Oh, no. Don't tell me it's one of those "everyone's part of the same big, complicated story" kind of things. Because those always have such dramatic endings. So fun to read about, so difficult to live.

I guess it's something like that.

Once, one of the major players tried to change it. He was replaced, and so were everyone's memories. Everyone's but mine and one other person's, anyway. And one of my friends had his whole life rewritten.

[ that sounds...incredibly unpleasant. and also unfortunately familiar. ] I suppose I've heard of things like that happening before. Memories erased. Lives disappearing. And so few left to honor what's been lost.

...What, exactly, did you do about it? What you remembered--what everyone else didn't?

What did I do?

[He's taken aback a bit by that question. He's not quite sure what he's supposed to do, and everything's been such a mess. It isn't like he hasn't tried, but there's been so much push and pull it's ridiculous, and it's hard to articulate.]

Well... there isn't much you can do if no one believes you. But I've tried to help, I guess. There was a lot of crazy stuff going on, so all I've been able to do was try to figure out what happened and what I could do to fix it, if anything. It was really chaotic, and then... I was here.

People don't have to believe you in order for you to help them. It doesn't make it easier, but still... If you waited around for everyone to start believing you, you'd probably never be able to help them at all.

[ grand pronouncements on matters he still doesn't know how to parse one from the other.

...No. I think you put it best when you said "There was a lot of crazy stuff going on." That about sums most things up, doesn't it?

I wasn't waiting. It's just-- it's really hard to explain. I was trying, though. I did everything I thought I could.

[And he's still down about it. Everything at home really was a mess, and he still hadn't come to terms with being asked to choose sides and save that world, let alone a new one.]

Right before I got here, there was a big fight going on.

A big fight? [ when isn't there a big fight?

unless he means--the big fight. which is completely different.

it can't be seen, but he clenches his fists, then slowly unclenches them. his throat is just a shade tighter, though his voice remains calm. ]

What sort of fight was it? ...Other than big.
