[ The tone in her voice can only be described as empty. Her face is splotchy and red; it's easy to see that she may have been crying at one point, but she isn't any longer. She sounds and looks hollow, all over. ]

Gale Hawthorne's gone.

[ That's it. That's all she says. Because it's all she can say. ]

[ She doesn't know her, but - she's hurting, and it makes Jade's chest ache in turn. That's her biggest nightmare here, isn't it? Someone she cares about just disappearing without warning? Maybe made more frightening by the simple fact that it seems to happen all the time. ]

[ she knew it. she knew the minute she walked into her bar and saw it untouched. knew it the minute she knocked on his door and didn't get an answer, and before she even looked at her bracelet. she knew it, and yet hearing it through the network like this. from some girl she doesn't even know? it breaks something in her chest. leaves it open. ]

[ it's another few moments before Jo's able to calm herself down. this girl knew gale, obviously. probably had a much deeper connection to him than just his boss. ]

He- [ doesn't make this any easier. ] He left some things. Traps. Do you want them?

[ She isn't sure how to respond at first, so it's delayed... quite a bit. ]

[ Katniss doesn't know this girl. But the distress in her voice sets Katniss on a jealous edge, and she has to swallow down to keep the knot in her stomach from jumping up her throat. She has things of Gale's. Why does she have things of Gale's? ]

Yes, I do. In case he comes back. I'll keep them safe for him.

They're at the bar- [ and then it hits her that she might not have even known about that. she didn't ask about the whole home situation, had just taken him in when he showed up. ] The Roadhouse. He was staying there for a bit.

Were you two close?

[ Softly. Katniss might not necessarily WANT to talk about it, but.. she might as well give her the chance. ]

[So he's back to being the only man again? Finnick sighs for a second before turning on his feed and looking to Katniss. His lips don't turn upward, and he doesn't speak for a second.]

Hey you. How are you holding up?

Does it matter?

[ It doesn't to her. ]

Of course it matters. It matters to Annie, Rue, and I. It would matter to Gale and Peeta.

I'll come pick them up in an hour. [ She doesn't even care if that works for you, she doesn't know you, she doesn't care all that much, she just wants Gale's things. ]

[ ... what.

and her face registers nothing but sheer, utter, complete terror. ]

Peeta's gone?!

I had my suspicions, but I checked earlier this morning. I thought that's why you were making this post.

I didn't know that you-

[He just sighs and runs his hands through his hair.]

I didn't see, I didn't know -- I was too busy looking for -- [ for Gale, oh god -- Katniss's already swollen eyes well with fresh tears; they burn, but nothing like her lungs, which seem to refuse to take air in. She just stares for a few seconds, completely in shock, dumbstruck, and... Blank. She just goes blank. ]

Well, I didn't.

[ Then rips her bracelet off and throws it across the room - clearly her bedroom - and the sounds following are muffled but clearly distressed, as she scrambles her way into her closet and slams the door. ]

[He's in the room with Annie, but when she throws off the bracelet he springs into action. He moves down the hall, flinging her door open. He turns, shutting the door, and moves towards the closet opening it up and sitting at the front.]

Katniss...

As close as two people can be. [ She's never really... verbalized it. But it's true. They were each other's survival and solace, best friends, partners. ]

[ She sits with her knees at her chest, head buried against them and hands clutching into her hair. She's weak, broken, and sobbing. She's convinced this is her fault, for not choosing between them, for making Gale leave because Peeta came back... She did this. But she doesn't respond, she just recoils further. She doesn't even look up. ]

[Without hesitation, he scoots closer and pulls her into his arms, wrapping them around her and crawling slowly back into the closet. If she wants to be in the closet, then Finnick will oblige her, but not without someone being there with her. His hand brushes over her back as he leans back into the darkness of the closet.]

[ Katniss shakes her head and stiffens, rigid against his touch, and tugging to try to get away from him. But he won't let go of her, and after a few minutes, she stops trying to struggle and just lets herself go into body-wracking hysteria. ]

[He just holds onto her letting her struggle, but after a moment when she stops, he relaxes a little himself.]

They'll come back. You know it...you have to keep it together until then.

Then hopefully he'll find his way here again soon.

[ Softly, earnestly. ]

No, no -- Peeta won't, he won't -- twice now, Finnick. And Gale -- what if he doesn't remember anything? What if neither of them do? What if Peeta tries to kill me, or worse...

[ Whatever could be worse than that, she's not sure. But there has to be something. She speaks so weakly and halfheartedly that she's not even sure what she's doing, or whether or not real words are coming out. Everything's just a blur. ]

He won't remember if he does. I'm not that lucky.

Hey. You don't know that...you can't always beat yourself down with the worst case scenario.

[He tells her quietly. If there is one person he can speak frankly to, and that will understand where he is coming from, it's Katniss.]

This is the worst case. This is the worst thing -- First, Prim was here, then she was gone. In the blink of an eye. Now this... You'll be the next one. Or Rue. Or Annie. Eventually, you'll all be gone.

I'm not going anywhere. It will take a LOT to make me go anywhere.

[His hand brushes up and down her back in a soothing manner.]

Don't give up. Okay? Stay here with us.
