There are no gods, only men with delusions of grandeur.

[ he laughs a bitter little thing. he would be stuck in some strange, european world with gods and magic and other such ridiculous things.

even jesus would be wary. ]

And we're supposedly blessed with sudden powers. Pardon me if I don't leap at trusting the word of a faceless chamber maid and her trinkets.

[ the story he's told to believe is hard to take, simply put. judas would rather watch and wait before actively making a decision - but it can't be denied that his mind is leading him towards believing this whole thing is some strange, large and elaborate prank. because being telekinetic is ridiculous, and believing in gods is downright ludicrous. ]

I'd like to reserve judgement, but this is all incredibly bizarre.

[ there's a pause, a quiet inhale of a cigarette, and then there's silence. ]

No delusions here, I'm afraid. I realize our presence can be a little overwhelming at times, however. [ Idle, dismissively. ]

Oh, don't be so self-centered. You'll come around eventually, I'm sure.

I can show you the 'sudden powers' if you're really interested. I mean, sometimes things can be hard to take at face value unless you're given a practical demonstration.

Eh, there's plenty of things out there that get worshiped Sometimes it's even merited. But, as for the powers they're pretty much real. I'd demonstrate, but it's not really a power I like sharing.

[There's the sound of a flick, a match lighting and a sympathetic inhale.]

You have a healthy sense of skepticism Messer, but in this case... at least the powers we are given are very real.

Which one were you told you were given?

Surely it's not the first bizarre thing that's happened in your life! That should make it easier to believe. The powers are as real as anything, too. You should be able to test yours yourself, if you're really that skeptical.

The kings under the hill merited fear and reverence for their strength, but if you're talking about character, most of them were more flawed than the humans that worshiped them. Service was for fear and power. That's the sort of 'god' I know.

...well, that and one particular ass-hat on his high horse who thinks he's better than all the rest, but he can kindly suck a railroad spike to the teeth.

[ahem, try not to mind her. The girl's got issues with Jehovah.]

These guys here aren't any different. Lot of power, serious issues need dealing with, desperate tactics. Service is just a matter of them having the strength to claim it, and us having a reason to offer it back. You can use 'god' if you want, but it's not really that complicated.

Getting the language of talking to them right's a lot harder, though.

Then it should be simple enough to prove it is true, have you tried to use it yet?

[You know, Judas would probably win hands down in a 'who has the worst crap from religion' argument. It'd be funny to watch her try, though, if she knew who he was.]

That's one way of putting it, yeah. I'd mostly agree with you on a lot of that, though. Most people never think of the creatures they work with more than what they were taught. But you never get anywhere that way. I actually appreciate the older ways. It was just as manipulative, but with a few of the old gods, you were expected to figure it out yourself.

Take the Egyptians. They expected a good priest to command them, but they expected them to also figure out how to do it properly and not offend the gods or they'd blast him from creation. The kings under the hill, they liked someone who could earn their place by courage and force of arms, or cunning.

Different strokes for different old ways. You call 'em whatever you want. They had power in most cases. Maybe that was worth respect, but not without understanding.

To assume you're the source of the delusion? Please. It's much more likely that I'm hallucinating you.

That is a tricky power. You might be able to try it on some one? As long as you ask and they do not mind...

The power will not be very strong since you are new and you should not use it for too long, but you might see there is some truth in what you have been told.

samantha_grey: (Irritated)

heh, we're both guilty of it at times I think. No worries.

[personal profile] samantha_grey 2013-07-23 09:19 pm (UTC)(link)
[She would be able to feel a fair amount of sympathy for him. Honestly, she probably wouldn't know what to do if faced with that man in the first place, considering her own issues with his side of the religious spectrum.]

You know, depending on how you think of it, Imhotep might have qualified as that sort of thing. There was a big cult of personality about him, but it's so old that most people in my world really don't remember anything clearly. There were a lot of stories about him, good and bad.

But yeah, even if it's a 'god,' don't trust what you can't see before you, and trust it only half way. If you're given good, give good in return. In the end, the only soul you can really trust is yourself, whatever path you walk, whatever ways you use.

But, honestly... did the whole fate thing ever change just because they got new in your world? It didn't in mind. They try to shackle people with what's fated thousands of years after the Egyptians were dead in the sands.

[Another long puff, followed by a snort.]

Fuck fate, if you ask me.

We do have powers. I haven't tested mine because ... I haven't needed to, but I've seen them. With others.

[Others being "Malfoy" but he isn't going to say that.]

But yes, it really is bizarre. I'd almost say that explains the rest of things.

You got that right. There's no such fuckin' thing as gods or magic. It's all fakey-fakeness because they don't believve in the rightness a' science.

[You're alright in his opinion, new friend. A bit scruffy sounding but alright.]

But usin' their tools for your owwn purposes isn't a half-bad idea, if you think about it.

I'll agree on the bizarre assessment, though.

[ She blinks, but other than that doesn't really seem phased. ]

Thanks. [ She leans off screen and grabs a candle, holding it still. She stares at the wick for a moment, holding her pointer finger up to it like one might a match. With a spark, the fire jumps from her finger to the candle, which is now burning bright. ]

See?
