I am well aware that these past days have been rather trying for all. Many were injured and even lost.

[Her gaze drops for a moment and then she's looking back up, her hands resting almost primly on her knees.]

I know it is not a lot, but if any are interested, I always have a pot of tea and plenty of cups for those who wish to come and talk. Or if talking is not something you are interested in, some tea and a few moments of silence. I know it is not much, but it is something I can offer.

For all that these gods give us power, I suppose many of our fellow travelers are unaccustomed to battle.

From what I understand, many had not ever fought before this place. It can be highly distressing to be thrust into such a thing with no preparation. And even then, with those who have tried to prepare, it's not the same, not when you're actually fighting.

No, it isn't. A first battle can make the difference between a novice who will become a warrior, and one that will remain as he is.

I haven't had tea in a little while but that actually sounds nice.

[Tyki's still mildly recovering from the fight. He was on the strike team after all and protecting Sophie while she held onto the soul had been exhausting all the way to the gates. For once, he's actually trying to wind down from his active lifestyle.]

I think many would prefer to remain who they are, and I truly cannot blame them.

You believe that becoming a warrior changes who you are?

[companioning]

[Inara studies him for a moment and then smiles as she nods.]

Tea's always a nice thing to have.

It can, being part of a battle... Well it can take the innocence that so many people cling to.

Innocence is an illusion. It belongs to children, not to men.

[companioning]

[Her lips press together for a moment.]

Who are you to decide who innocence is for?

[pushesgently]

I do not. But the world isn't innocent, and to cling to such a state indefinitely is both foolish and futile.

[companioning]

I would much rather someone embrace that foolishness than to seek out ways to ruin it.

video;

[pushesgently]

I prefer to teach them how to live in the world that exists, that they might create a better one. But all must choose their own paths.

[companioning]

Have you stopped to think that maybe some worlds still maintain innocence against wars?

But you are right, all must indeed choose their own paths.

Such a world would be very unusual, I think. But I would be very eager to learn about a land that accomplished such a thing.

If there is, perhaps the gods will allow us to meet people from it, one day. Though I suppose they would face a ruder surprise here than most.
