[Hello, Asgard. Look who is finally making his first post to the network? Jack is sitting on a roof and enjoying a blue popsicle. It seems their little trip to the cold lands wasn't enough ice for him.]

Moral of the story: 'frost giants' aren't as cool as they sound.

[...it's a joke, ok, don't judge him ~~much~~. He needs to deal somehow with the fact the trip pretty much sucked. Jokes are also his way of trying to break the ice ~~see what I did~~. Answering to people's silly thoughts? No problem. Starting conversation by his own? That's gonna need more practice.]

Someone mentioned weapons when I arrived, and how I should I ask the network about it. Maybe you do have an idea of what to do about--

[He uses telekinesis to make the two halves of a shepherd crook float next to him.]

[Dirk nods. There's no need for words.] I don't know what happens when you pray to one. To be fair, I haven't checked the library for that answer, either.

Something is supposed to happen? Gee, now I want to see what, but I don't want to pray to them. [Decisions, decisions. Someone should sacrifice themselves for SCIEN- I mean MAGIC!]

I imagine something is supposed to happen, or they wouldn't be there. Not about to take that hit for the team unless I know what's going to happen. [Clearly they need to find a SUC- I mean volunteer!]

Would it be too much to hope something explodes? [His curiosity is getting the best of him.] Know what, I'll take that hit, why not. Let's see what they think of my way of praying.

[Spoilers: he's gonna give them a piece of his mind.]

Let's hope if they don't like it that they don't decide to be dicks with their curses. [Turning into a snowman in the middle of the summer would be one such move.] It's not too much to hope for explosions. Gods are flashy, right?

Aren't they already? [SHUT UP don't give them ideas.] I guess? They haven't been very impressive so far.

I forget. Were you around when everyone suddenly had this mad desire to cling to one object or person?

They what? [He laughs.] Alright, I'm glad I didn't get it - but man, that must've been fun to watch.

[He sighs loudly and makes an exasperated noise.] At first, it was fine. Just hanging out with someone new, no big deal. Then they got obsessive and crazy.

[-then more laughing. He really wishes he had seen that.]

At least some of this must be in the network, right? I think it's time for a trip down the memory line.

No, I was perfectly fine. The person zeroing in on me? Was not. [None of it made it to the network thank FUCK. There are embarrassing things in there. Completely. Utterly embarrassing.]

You can see the crazy in other people, mine didn't do things on the network. Probably because he was busy chasing me and my impression of the Road Runner.

Beep beep! Totally checking the network. [Sorry Dirk, he's away too amused by this.] Did you ever get cursed then?

[He sighs, exasperated. Go ahead and check all the craziness.] By that one? Fuck no. The one before that was Freya's curse - nightmare. It hit nearly everyone in the city. With the death and thief of your twin's soul, she went mad.

Her grief created it.

[He lives for that exasperation! Thank you, he will. The mention of nightmares, though, suddenly changes Jack's expression for one a bit more serious.]

Yeah, Euri mentioned that. [He wonders if he should ask or not, and then:] How bad was it?

People were knocked the fuck out. If you touched them, you entered their nightmares. This was especially bad for those of us who sleep walk. If there had been an attack, we would have been all wiped out.

[He runs his fingers through his hair. It sounds like Pitch's paradise. This is definitely something Jack doesn't find funny, and anyone can read from his face right now.]

Fear all over... no thanks, I've had enough of that for a lifetime. It was just visions though, right? Nobody got hurt?

[Dirk doesn't look like he finds it funny, either. He looks uncomfortable and a little bit pained at the memory of the dreams.]

In body? Yeah, no one got hurt. I can't say the same for their minds and hearts. [Oh his own.]

[Time to sigh now. He knows how it goes, being scarred by fear and darkness. Fuck those memories, man.]

Then the answer is "yes they did". That's the worst kind of hurt.

Yes, it is. [He doesn't know what else to say.] But hurts can be mended. What's done is done, all that's left is to rebuild and be stronger than before.

[Those are some big words but someone so young, Jack thinks. But he just nods.]

And that's what they brought us for, right? Rebuilding.

Exactly. So we'll be just fine and grow up a little straighter. Like that old saying about trees. [He has no fucking clue what the saying was, just that it was about trees.]

Or we could just not grow up at tall and happily live a life without responsibilities. [Fuck trees, they don't like the cold.]

You can't escape responsibilities, young or old. [Some times he sounds so ancient.]

[Yeah, Jack notices that. What's with all these teenagers that grow up so soon? It's a sad view.] Sure you can. I did that for centuries.
