Hey, folks! I'm sorta new 'round here, and I was wonderin' if people had any advice for the, uh, alchemy exam? Things are a touch different where I'm from, but I've been studying. Lookin' for a few recommendations, if anyone's got 'em. 

 

It's a while yet 'til I actually take it, but no one ever died from learning too much, right?

 

[He grins at the camera.]

 

Anyway, yeah! I can't be the only one out here thinkin' of takin' the exam. Anyone interested in a study group?

I was thinking about perhaps taking the test. It'd be nice to have someone to study with.

Not sure how much I can help, but if nothin' else, we'll work it out together, right? You new to this or did you get stuck relearning from scratch like I did?

I'm relearning things, sort of. The magic here doesn't work the way things do back home, or at least, not in any system that I'm familiar with. It's been fascinating, but a little bit trying at times...

( She honestly seems excited by the prospect. )

I'm excited to learn more, especially after the exam!

Pretty much what it says on the tin. Though, uh, if your world doesn't have it, I guess that might not be very helpful.

[He shrugs.]

It's taking A and B and making C. Like, taking two metals and making an alloy, or mixing chemicals together to make medicine. You can get some magical stuff, if you do it right.

I'm not familiar with it. Although if you were to take stones as well as plants, sometimes they can yield similar results.

Plant stuff's another exam. Gonna be going for it eventually, but alchemy's more my bag. Workin' with stones is an alchemy thing, though you're right that there's overlap in results.

[He cocks his head to the side.]

You interested in studyin' any of this, or...?

I'd not given it terribly much thought until now, but, ah-- it does sound like a fascinating pursuit. I dealt with magical compounds a great deal, at home.

Perhaps I'll join you in studying.

That'd be awesome! You could probably teach us a few things about handlin', and there's always room for more folks in a study group. It looks like we'll have a few people at the very least.

I'm not certain how much will carry over from my own world, but it certainly won't do any harm to find out. I'd be glad to.

I figure some of it's gotta carry- not necessarily the fine details, but the bigger picture. Suspect at least one of us'll end up in a business using it, and knowing tips and tricks is always good.

What House did you get stuck in? I'm wondering if we should meet in the library, or if we've got some folks in the same place.

Odin. I work as a librarian there, as it happens, and I never do tire of the place. The library has my vote.

I haven't learned... well, anything about it really, you know it's not something I could do at home, but. They say teaching someone else helps make sure you know what you're doing, right?

[That comes with a small, sort of hopeful little smile.]

So if you wouldn't mind showing me a thing or two, I could try to help out there.

'Course I wouldn't mind. I like teachin', and you're right that it'll help me too. I'm just glad you're interested in it.

We can start with the basics whenever you want. I've got a fair bit of free time.

I tried killing some time baking, but I'm used to cooking for me and Remy. Forgot I don't have to make a few dozen anymore, you have no idea how sick of these I already am.

Depends on what kind of cookies those are. Best not be trying to foist health food cookies on me, Farrow.

Would I do that to you? They're chocolate. Actual chocolate, not that fake carob business or anything, and I promise there's not a full grain to be found in here.

Uh. It's to get a license to practice alchemy. You can't do it until you pass, and it sounds pretty useful to have.

Figurin' the government here. I can see why-- I mean, people are going to be handling some dangerous stuff-- but it'd be nice if the exams were done in town.
