( Hermione was having another nightmare. Or at least, it felt like a nightmare. She was searching for something important to her, but every time she reached her hand out to touch it, it would vanish as though it had never been solid in the first place. Over and over, until she could feel her breath coming in gasps and tears rolling down her face - was she screaming? It felt like she was saying a name, but she couldn't quite understand what it was, as though there was something obscuring her hearing, keeping her from understanding.

There was a flash of red hair, which vanished---

And then she woke up, sitting straight up in bed and panting, one hand pressed against her mouth to keep herself from screaming. This was a new one, wasn't it? But surely, it didn't mean anything...

Rolling over and reaching for her bracelet, Hermione scrolled through the names. And scrolled again. And a third time, her eyes almost too blurred with tears to see. The one name she had been counting on, she had been hoping to find - had disappeared during the night, while she was sleeping. What could she do about it?

By the time the sun rose, she had calmed herself enough to actually say something, though her eyes were red and puffy and had dark circles under them. )

Ronald Weasley has left. If .. anyone knew him, he was .. someone I knew from home. Someone I cared about. ( Was she supposed to say all this? )

I just thought others might want to know.

[ Soft, quiet in the dim light of her room. ]

Hermione? [Alice had spoken to the boy, but wasn't close to him. She bit her lip.]

Maybe you'll see him again soon.

I am so sorry. [Gwen wished she could hug the stranger right now. Her heart felt so broken just from looking at the girl.]

I do know that we do not know each other, but if you need anything, I will be happy to help. [Some tea, someone to talk to. Gwen really meant anything.]

Never met him. You doing alright, I mean... considering? I haven't lost many that close to me, but I've lost a few. Someone that important, though...

[He almost wants to say "Good.", but in light of certain things he's going to actually be...nice. However he's going to make this a text response because he doesn't want to be confronted with face-to-face right now.]

What makes you think he won't be back?

( She has to swallow a few times, hard, before offering a wry smile. )

It's probably better .. this way. He had important things to do back home.

I .. ( She didn't think so. That Ron, the Ron who hadn't seen the end of the war yet - wasn't he gone? Along with Hermione who hadn't seen the end of the war? Everything was different now. )

I hope so.

People .. come and go. It's something I ought to be more used to.

If the war is really won, then we'll all see our families again. And you'll get to see him again. He would want to see you. He spoke very highly of you.

( Hermione nodded, staring down at her hands. And then offering a slightly weary smile. She wasn't ok. But .. she'd been through worse than this, right? At least she knew that Ron would be ok, in the end. And now .. she could focus on finding a way home for everyone else. )

Thank you. ( After a moment. ) It's a bit awkward to introduce myself, but I'm Hermione Granger.

( Hermione nodded .. and then shook her head, and then nodded again. )

I'm .. all right. He's back home, where he's needed and I'm here -- where I'm needed, I suppose. For now.

( Oh good, text. She doesn't think she can handle you right now, Malfoy. Tentatively, she answers: )

I wouldn't want him to come back. He's needed more at home; we made Harry a promise. He felt like he was breaking it by being brought here.

He would say something like that. I was always helping him with his homework. ( She doesn't seem mad though. In fact, she's smiling. )

As someone who has had to idly watch the two of you go around in circles? That's just surprising. [Wow way to admit you've been watching the trio that closely.]

Perhaps. But it is a bit skewed to believe that simply because one is used to something that it does not hurt.
