Uh, did you miss that episode where c was truly able to understand a's problems like no one else? That's why they work together.

Plus, in the expanded universe, they spend a lot more time together and a even mentions being able to consider marrying c! but clearly you haven't read the expanded universe books. (it's not a fandom argument without sniping about the other's knowledge of the programme!)
