[ For the moment, the video function remains off. Which is a shame, because dem ginger curls. But he's testing the waters, so for now it's only the Scottish brogue that filters over the network. ]
It figures. The one time I dial 999 and nobody bloody answers.
[ It's probably a good thing no one answered; Ashley isn't even sure what he would have said. This was all too surreal already. ]
That's just typical; years of loyal service and putting up with government standards and this is the thanks I get.
So who am I talking to? To whom do I owe the great honour of experiencing this mental clusterfuck, and when do I get to wake up? More importantly, where can I find a pack of cigarettes. Mine's almost out.
[ All things considered, Ashley sounds pretty calm. His tone is light, if a bit annoyed, though the sarcasm that laces his every word runs deep. ]

video;
[All said fast. Deep breath, deep breath.]
We're your fellow captives slash war recruits. Come from all over space and time. And that's as much help as I can give. I'm sure someone can loan you a pack of cigarettes though.
video;
[Really, Annie doesn't understand this. This things aren't things that Annie has heard of.
But she's quiet as she thinks and then she's eying him warily. He had said he worked with the government. In her world that's not generally a good thing. Either they were Capitol workers or peacekeepers. Both awful in her opinion.]
What... What sort of work did you do?
video;
I'm sorry to inform you of this, but your government has nothing to do with you being here.
[She flashes him a soothing smile.] Didn't one of the servants hand you a letter informing you of your current... situation?
video;
But at the mention of the gods again, he purses his lips, and shuffles to light one of his few precious cigarettes. He definitely needs it, this is all too fucking weird. ]
So. Gods. This isn't some mass delusional state caused by drugs or something, is it? That's probably too much to hope for. Or a hard knock to the head that I'll wake up from at any moment. Or maybe I'm trapped in a coma forever and this is all a product of my subconsciousness. [ Stranger things have happened- right? Right? ]
video;
[ The complaint is muttered beneath his breath with a bit of a sigh. Not so much an insult, as it seems like something he's heard before in a manner that was annoying. Still- the bit about cigarettes is odd. He doesn't know a single person who doesn't know what a cig is. ]
999, it's the equivalent of 911. You know, emergency services. My area of expertise happens to be medical emergencies. I'm the poor bastard who has to try and keep you alive until we reach the hospital. Or act as a glorified taxi, depending.
[video]
The bracelet's different.

[A pause and she gives him a sympathetic look.]
Don't think so. Met a few of them. Fought in a battle in their war. Got injured in it. Though, it's possible your body back at home might be in a coma and only your subconscious here. We haven't exactly figured out how we're extracted from our timestream without everything going to completely bonkers and collapsing.
And as of yet... no way to return back to your world. At least not intentionally.

Secondly, you're talking to literally everyone with a bracelet.
video;
voice
The people who brought you here call themselves the Gods. And this network connects everyone they've brought here.
video;
They said a thing or to about it. I wasn't really listening. Too busy pinching myself. [ Which is close enough to the truth. ]
Video
There are several stores which sell cigarettes and cigars, though I do not know enough about them to be able to recommend one in particular, I am afraid.
video;
Ah, yes. It is rather hard to believe at first. Actually, sometimes it's a bit much to take in even if you've been here a while. [She shrugs her shoulders and smiles at him again..] It does get a bit easier to live here... You just need to be open to.. oddness.
video;
We don't have anything like that where I'm from. Well, not the 999 or the 911... We have hospitals, but they're mainly in the Capitol.
