[ Video / Outside the Freyr House Action ]

[Leonardo sat watching the birds fly around in the sky near the God House that had become his temporary home. Even here where people could fly using magic the idea of a flying machine was one that he could not forget. So he sat outside doing a few sketches of a machine that might be familiar to at least one person here.
He spoke to the communicator... or maybe it was just to himself as he didn't seem to be paying much attention to the device at all.]

The idea is not to be lighter than air but maybe if I could use a different material for the frame then there would not be the need for as many fires to be lit around the city. I wonder if any at all would be needed...

[A broad bat-like wing was added to the sketch.]

I have heard there is a metal called aluminum that is supposed to be lighter and stronger than wood. Could that really work?

[Then the second wing was drawn in on the other side. He knew the design by heart and was able to easily replicate even the complex gears and levers that would go into making this device able to be steered by the pilot.
With the drawing finally completed to his satisfaction, the artist sat back and gave the page an exasperated smack with his hand.]

If only I had a place large enough to build this in! I could finally test these improvements and bring the bird back to lif--... mio dio!!

[Even before he had completed the sentence the flying machine sprang from the page. Leonardo’s desire to see the machine fully constructed made the craft materialize with little warning, right there in the middle of the lawn. More remarkable still the craft was not just a small toy-like version it was large, full sized, and looked entirely ready for its first test flight. The machine looked just like the original one he had built but as Leonardo curiously inspected the device he found it to be made from the more modern materials he had been exposed to in this city. It was in fact, just like the design he had just drawn, improvements and all!]

Remarkable! Even the fabric has been replaced... My powers must have grown enough to allow this to happen?

[Whether he knew his communicator had been on this whole time or not he picked up the device and smiled as he finally addressed it and whomever might have been watching. ]

I suppose I will need to find some one crazy enough to be a test pilot. Would anyone be brave enough to attempt it?

Dude, that'th an underthtatement. Even without the internet you could have picked up the anthwerth to thith pretty much anywhere. The utheletth huthk of a library, maybe?

...actually I don't even know if that'th true, tho maybe don't take that ath the gothpel truth.

In my time this would have been a great achievement...

[Or rather it was a great achievement. A flying machine that actually flew long before any other. Here it just kind of served to remind him how useless he had become. ]

You make it sound like flying machines are very common place now?

[He has to fumble a bit, the placement of tongue against fangs for how to make that work without totally mangling the word. It takes some doing.]

At leatht they were like, not even a thing worth remarking on for uth. But your thpecieth alwayth theemth to be fantathtically behind on everything.

I have heard of the spaceships, the Doctor mentioned them to me.

[They sounded wondrous but being from the Renaissance age he naturally had never seen one. ]

I know there are people here from times in the future but... I did not realize how normal these things had become.

Name's Superboy. I'm a certified superhero, so I got the brave thing down, and crazy stuff keeps happening to me so I think I'm qualified on that front too.

But if that doesn't convince you, I'm in Baldr with Flight.

But, being able to fly already would give you an advantage. If it were to crash you should be able to escape without injury.
You just could not use that power during the test flight unless things were going badly. I would like to know if this machine could fly without any outside help.

It's like a hero, but more super.

Then all we would need is a high place to launch this machine from. Do you know which building is the highest in town?

I'd say either the hospital, the Arena, or even the Sigyn Welcome Hall -- there's no chance of using the castle top. There's some kind of force-field around it.

Bene! Then maybe we could borrow the hospital roof. That should give us plenty of room to setup the flying machine.

[(Good!) ]

I will just get the machine ready to move.

And we're right there in case anything goes wrong.

[Yeah, Kon's done stuff like this before.]

How long do you think that'll take? I don't get off shift for another two hours.

[This is given some thought.]

That would give me plenty of time to move the bird and make sure it was still flight worthy afterwards.

[Time to check all the connections and make certain something like a wing falling off didn't happen. ]

We could meet at the hospital some time after this shift of yours?

Got to say, I really enjoyed Titanic. Had no idea you were also in the airplane gig -- wait, don't tell me. Catch Me If You Can, right?

[And the confusion deepens on his end. ]

[He looked around as if maybe something behind him would help decipher this strange code the boy had suddenly slipped into. ]

I'm sorry, I'm afraid I have no idea what you are saying. Maybe the translation magic is not working as well as it was before...

[And he looked towards the ground... Was there something 'down low' he was missing?
He had been here for several months now but he still managed to run into new and bizarre slang and languages. How did any one in the future ever understand each other? ]

There doesn't seem to be anything 'down low'... just the ground?

[Ah but at least that last bit made some sense!]

Si, it might be a good idea to keep this quiet. I'm not sure how a thing like this might really be received here.

Leonardo nodded at the image transmitted by the bracelet before shutting off the feed to begin the preparations to ready the flying machine for it's trip across town.]

((ooc: do you want to continue and switch to action or assume?))

[OOC: I'll leave it up to you since I'm ok with either one of those. If we assume though I'd need to know if the test flight was a success or if the flying machine crashed. ^_^ ]

((ooc: if we played it out, we'd still need to know that and since its your machine, your call! I don't want Kon injured, but he can fly himself out before that happens if it's a fail.))

[OOC: When it comes to the machine itself I think it would be sound enough. Leonardo has already been able to perfect a flying machine in his canon so really it would be up to the skill of the pilot.
Since Kon is used to flying I doubt he would have any trouble mastering how to lean and work the controls to get the craft to fly? If you think he would be able to handle that then I vote that the machine flies. ]

((ooc: Kon, in addition to knowing a lot about flight, has canonical experience piloting a flying super-cycle, so yeah -- I think we can assume that the test flight was a great success! If Leonardo wants to test it with a pilot without flight, Kon's also willing to be there on standby to help get the pilot out if he gets into difficulties!))

[OOC: Alright then! In case there were other test pilots I think we could say there was a 'Superboy parachute' around just in case something went wrong. It never hurts to have a backup. ^_^]

I call it, the bird, but in notes only. Really it is much easier to call it a flying machine.

Si, you can watch. We will be launching it from the hospital roof later today.

Who's going to test it? Are you going to do it later?

It flies! This machine can carry a full grown man through the air!

[WOW, DOES HE REMEMBER THAT. It's a sight for sore eyes, really, a good reminder of home.]

[The sounds of confidence. He isn't really sure this thing will fly at all now. ]

You should be able to stay in the air without the fires. Just the lift from the natural warm air rising should be enough. But... that is what I need to test. Are you still interested?
