002 - video
[Blondie over here is sitting in a chair, twirling a rose in his hand.]
A bit preoccupied I have been with trying to learn more about this place. Of course, I still have much to learn, what with the recent events that have transpired, but I'm sure it won't be of any hindrance of things that will come up in the near future.
But that's not why I'm making this. I feel this may be a little more personal, but with the way things are, does that really matter at this point?
[He placed the rose down, his eyes shifting to the bracelet on his wrist.]
"Resolve". That word has been stuck in my mind for quite some time. What exactly does your "resolve" involve? Is it one to be admired, or is it one that is grotesque and horrifying? I've been told that mine has been rather admirable, yet to others, it might seem reckless and rather terrifying. However, I achieved my "resolve" a while back, making me rather...content.
...what is your resolve? [The rose finds it way back to his hand, as he plucks a petal from it.] I want to see if I can admire it.

[He could already tell where Shun would have some doubts about the place he lives in. After all, its only human nature to kill one another eventually. There is no way around it.]
I'm sorry, but that doesn't seem likely. Why is your world like that?
I told you about Cantus, didn't I? You said it sounded more powerful than the Stands you have in your world.
Yes. Does that play a part in this peaceful society of yours?
[The story of the slave empires come to mind, and his eyes narrow with discomfort.]
...After those societies fell, another faction took over and built a new one of peace, doing whatever they could to ensure that wouldn't happen again. The method is hard to describe but... Using hypnosis and certain animal traits, they've made it so humans can no longer kill each other without the risk of Death Feedback.
If I hadn't come across the information by chance, I wouldn't have even thought it was possible for that kind of thing to happen.
...I would understand where the problems lie in your world. Honestly, I would not be able to live under those conditions. [His face slowly slipped into an apathetic look.] ...but if hypnosis is used, there's not much one can do to break out.
...although, how did you come across this information?
...My group came across a- I think it called itself a library terminal? There were stories about an evil minoshiro that would cause people to die if they saw it, so we decided to investigate the rumor while we were on our summer camping trip.
It turned out to be a branch of the library that only looked like a minoshiro. It tried to use hypnosis to escape, but one of my friends was able to capture it, and we got it to tell us more about our home.
I'm not exactly familiar with what a "minoshiro" is, but by the sounds of it, it does sound rather...intimidating.
But as long as you were able to actually conquer it, then that's all that matters. [...it was a branch of the library? Well, that's certainly...odd sounding.] Ah, what exactly did it tell you?
But... the one we found wasn't real, I don't think. It just stored data for the library.
[His brow furrows slightly, trying to make sense of it himself as he speaks.]
It told us about the history of our country after the fall of ancient civilization because of Cantus users, and the dark age that came after that. And it explained to us some of the methods they use to control us - like the hypnosis. But... [And his eyes narrow further here.] It also told us about creatures we know as Ogres and Karma Demons.
In school they teach us about them as if they're monsters, but... the fake minoshiro said they're the result of Cantus users and two different syndromes.
I'm sorry, Shun. It seems that there really is more to your world then meets the eyes. How much else have you found out? ...I'll be willing to share some things about my world to you, as well. You'll find that...well.
[Would his opinion on him change if he does actually tell? Hm. Might as well take a swing.]
[He slowly exhales.]
We didn't find out much more than that. I know that they... remove children who look like they might become Ogres or Karma Demons, but we got caught in the middle of learning more.
[And that lead to an entirely different adventure.]
What is your world like, Giovanna? It's... nothing like mine, is it?
...they remove children, though...tch. Your world is certainly different then mine...
[As he says this, his stare grows distant, in contemplation of what Shun had asked him.]
...please, I prefer Giorno, Giovanna is rather feminine in our language, and makes it seem like I'm a woman. But...my world? There's something to be said about the different cultures and languages that float about with each region. Different ethnic backgrounds, different looks...some regions are much more poor than others.
I come from a country called Italy, but that's where I was raised, and learned the language. There, I lived a rather displeasing life at start. However, if there's one thing that's dominant in Italy, it's what we call a Mafia. And it's run by a boss, branching out to different operatives. They run the streets, and if you even get on their bad side...certain death awaits. Cross the boss, and it's the last thing you'll regret doing.
A Mafia? [He gives a small frown as he tries to imagine this.] Why would they kill people for that?
...want to know something, though? When I was little, a mafia gangster turned my life around when I saved his life. No longer was I lacking confidence from that point. I felt as if I needed to repay him, somehow. This is what drives my resolve, to help out those in need, those who are less fortunate.
...that is why I decided to become a "Gangstar"! And I have achieved it. You're looking at the Boss of the Mafia Gang Passione!
[Also, you get a goofy pose from Giorno.]
Then... if you are the boss, does that mean you can decide not to kill people?
Everything has the right to walk their own path, and if someone were to come along and strip it away, it only depends on their actions. I cannot forgive anyone who would kill for the sheer enjoyment of it. Punishments are needed to be implemented.
...it's sad, really. As much as I like to clean up the streets, complications arise, and I am forced to give orders to kill. As much as I dislike it, that's how it goes.
So you kill the people who have killed.
But for the friends that have died in my adventure to become boss, in my struggles to get to the top...I've had to keep my goal in mind. Otherwise, I would have become lost, becoming no better then the boss before me. And...
I needed to keep a promise to Buccellati. I wanted to see his dream come to life, even after death. But...I'm sure this explanation serves no better to convince your mind. It's just...my thoughts.
[He shakes his head. It's a complicated matter, especially now knowing Giorno's own story, and it's hard to come to a decision when you simply do not know much about it.]
...I don't think killing is ever good. But after hearing that... I don't think it's just black and white, either.
[But what Shun says is still right. Killing is still no black and white sort of situation. Taking morals into account...]
The subject is touchy, no? There really is no way around seeing what killing truly bears. But Shun, I want you to tell me the truth that you so sought to desire.
If given the situation, with your life on the line, would you kill to save yourself?
[Not minding the fact that he's still a boy.]
If it were another human... I would not be able to kill them, no matter how much they threatened myself or others.
[Part of it is... a desire he has to avoid violence. But then, even that desire had been carefully cultivated by his society, hadn't it? Just like the death feedback that would stop both his hand and mind alike if he ever harmed another.]
...but I apologize for springing such a question on you. I just needed to clear up some doubt that clouded my mind. And to learn more about people in the process.
[He's not the most social guy in the world.]
[Although more because his society was so very different as opposed to lacking in social skills.]
[Giorno you're not THAT much older then him, what would you know?]
