Regarding the, ah, the candy which is presently... everywhere--

I must admit a great deal of interest in the workings of this world, the gods and their sort of magic. I know, well, terribly little about the runic spells which seem present here-- even aside that, I've certainly heard mention of... curses. Would this be considered one of those? [ It seems... too cutesy, punching and pinching aside, and that's clear in his expression. But there's magic he doesn't understand, the books are failing him, and research is really his main hobby. ]

Having not been in Asgard for terribly long, I've not had the misfortune of experiencing one myself, as of yet. Though I've seen no shortage of... inconvenient mystical happenings, at home.

Someone told me that the curses could be almost anything.

Curses vary depending on the God's imagination. In the end, they can be nearly about everything.

The candy hearts can be considered one too, I suppose.

I think the candy's brilliant, but it doesn't seem like much of a curse to me.

Singing is a curse? [ If he was from a bit further in canon, he'd understand. Without having yet experienced a song-inducing curse-- well, it just sounds rather silly. Like rains of candy hearts. ]

I see. Is it meant to be-- punishment, then, or... simply based on the boredom of the gods? I've heard, well, both.

Though this seems rather more for the sake of celebration, I'd assume.

This is a god-curse, yes. Ones as widespread as this are fairly rare. I can only think of four before now -- we were compelled to hug each other, many Travellers found their body changed with that of another Traveller, spontaneous facial hair, and an outbreak of singing.

Right. [ No, he doesn't get it. Give him three episodes, Hugo, then he'll understand. ] Forced singing-- I suppose that would be... troublesome.

The candy, at least, doesn't seem too terribly bad.

Usually the curses only affect one person. This is more of an...event. They've done things like this before.

That would be... very worrisome, to be sure. What more do you think they might do?

Yes, 'curse' does seem to imply... something rather more harmful. [ Candy and hugs aren't too terribly alarming-- even if Giles is stuffy and personal-space-focused enough to be awkward about the latter. ]

I'm not certain I find it any more reassuring on an individual level.

That's the impression I'd gotten. I don't suppose anyone knows... why, precisely? Purely for curiosity's sake. [ Because there's candy raining from the sky and apparently there was some sort of facial hair curse, one does wonder if there's any method to the madness. ]

The examples I've been given were certainly... varied. [ read: bizarre. ]

The individual curses are worse, in my opinion, because they last longer and their effects are potentially more debilitating.

That is... more worrying, yes. I do think I prefer the rain of hearts.

It's widespread enough that people can easily identify it as a curse, so it doesn't have the chaos of other events. Though I preferred the facial hair, simply because it made less of a difference to my usual routine.

Yes, I do think that or the singing would be preferable, at least in terms of how much a general bother each would be. Both are rather more benign than what one might normally consider a curse, at least. [ There was that time canon turned him into a demon-- and that time a witch made him blind for a day... ]

The gods don't need any more ideas, Giles-san.

It's wise -- but I wouldn't let it put you off sharing them altogether!

Oh-- yes, actually. I'm afraid I tend to deal with things somewhat more unpleasant than our shower of candy. [ Usually. Sometimes there's cursed candy back home, too; he leads a busy life. ]

The study of magic is... an aspect of my profession, at home.

Yes, well-- not to worry, I'm rather difficult to dissuade. [ Or so he's told. Aside research, tl;dring about research is Giles' other main hobby. ]

But I will refrain from offering anything which might be taken as a suggestion. I expect the last thing we need is further involvement of the gods.
