05 Quips -Video- | Failed Filter From Merlin

[He tries to filter, but he hasn't exactly had the time to learn how to properly filter. So, this post just comes onto the network like normal. Will is sitting down on a bed staring hard at first, before he finally speaks.]

I've been thinking about this a lot. What makes people strong? Is it being able to defend themselves? Or is it being able to defend others?

[He sighs and rubs the back of his neck.]

I'm not the strongest person, but I guess I've never really tried to be all that strong. So, I was wondering if there's anyone out there wants to help me train with a sword and someone else with my magic.

Even if I can't go home, that doesn't mean others shouldn't be able to eventually.

[He rubs at his forehead.]

I guess what I'm saying is, I want to help so I need to get stronger.

I doubt anyone is going to have a simple answer. Everyone looks at strength differently right?

[He's a little quiet for a moment.]

Do you have an answer?

I've always seen strength as knowing what you need to do and simply doing it, no matter the consequences.

[ considering consequences may delay things too much making it all be for nothing anyway ]

Even if the consequences are bad, huh?

[He seems to consider this and nods.]

That would take strength and resolve.

The Citadel has better swordsman, but if it's hand-to-hand fighting, I'll spar with you.

[assuming you don't mind getting whaled on by a tiny girl]

I'm not sure I'd do well hand to hand, but I guess it wouldn't hurt to try.

[Any excuse to hang out with Sophie is a good one. He might have trouble getting beat up by a girl at first, but he'd learn.]

It's rather difficult to be good at something until you try it. But it would be footwork practice, if nothing else.

Okay. I think that sounds like a good idea, after all if I end up fighting with my hands it'd be better to know something.

Are you sure you want to do this though?

[He's afraid of hurting her. After all, he's at least conscious that she's a woman. He doesn't want to accidentally hurt her.]

I definitely think being strong includes being able to defend others, yeah. Strength doesn't mean a thing unless you use it for other people's sakes too, otherwise it's just selfishness!

Selfishness. Okay, I get that.

[He's learning a lot from the answers that he's been given.]

I guess I'm just trying to sort all of this out now.

So you have to have something you believe in? Can it be a person?

A person, an object--anything. If you believed in something, then you would defend such a belief.

What makes someone strong varies-- it's not about defending others or defending themselves. Sometimes the reason is a lot more complicated than that.

Because you need to have a reason that isn't just defending yourself or others. A good reason.

Making the hard decisions is a lot of what makes you strong.

That's a question you've to find your own answer to, William. [ A beat. ] Is everything all right?

Everything is fine.

[He's not sure how to say this to Arthur. He wants to talk to him about Ealdor and about everything that happened, but words leave him and he just kind of shrugs.]

I want to be stronger. Maybe things here can be a little different if I can use the time better. I can be more prepared for helping out instead of hiding next time.

[ Arthur regards him carefully for a moment before responding. ]

If I recall correctly, you did a fair bit more than simply hiding.

[ He knows Will didn't cast that spell, that he took the fall in Merlin's place. The man is braver than he gives himself credit for, but he doesn't need Arthur to tell him that. ]

But time, we have in spades here. You find your strengths by determining what you intend to do with that time.

What's with that look on your face? Didn't think I'd just keep hiding forever did you?
