Teasure 015 ❊ Video/Action Freyr district.

[When the gear turns on you can see the bitty standing in the middle of the snow with an excited grin on his face. ]

Hello everyone! I think some of you might have noticed the odd thing that happened in the sky, a few weeks ago. Don’t worry it wasn’t an omen of the end; it was just part of a project my guild and a few other were working on to woke up the runic magic in the city. I want to thank all guild members and the kind people that helped as prepare for it. The magic is certainly up and running again.

To thank you all, Grimoire’s Sigil will be hosting a big party to celebrate. I’m not just inviting the people who helped; I’m inviting everybody that would like to come. Oh yes, I ask anyone have completed their arrays to demonstrate them at the party. How else can you celebrate a form of magic but to show what it can do.

To give you a taste of what you might see I’m going to show you something I’ve made with runes.

[In his hand is a long wooden stick with runes etched into its side. On the very top is a quartz crystal]

This is a gift to my friend, Regina. [He give it a little wave] It’s a sparkle wand; it does exactly what the name implies and a little bit more. Runes work just like our bracelets all you need normally to do is focus on making it work.

[It only takes him a second to focus on the item. The runes on the side begin to glow, slowly peeling away from the surface. They slowly float upward until and begin circle around the gem. The gem in question begins to glow softly.]

So the runes are active, time for the fun part!

[He waves the wand around in a large arch, this time small colorful sparkles come out. The sparkles landed on the snowy ground and onto of Aladdin.]

This wand makes sparkles of light and harmless to the skin and you can make as many as you like. You can make them any sort of colors you want. At this size it takes about a day for them to fade away or when want them too. The bigger you make them the less time they last. When you make it really big you can do something like this.

[He focus again this time gem glow blindingly, then he makes a sudden rising motion with his wand arm. A huge spark about the size of a watermelon, it shots from the gem straight into the sky before exploding into smaller sparkles. They briefly formed the shape of a cartoony lion face before slowly fall to the ground.]

This wand is just one of the things that can be done using runes, they are thousands of different arrays out there that wildly differ from this one. If you want to see more you have to come to the party.

[the feeds shuts off.]

[As the demonstration finishes the sound of clapping could be heard from behind Aladdin. Leonardo had stumbled onto the best place to watch the showy performance it seemed.]

Haha! That is really very impressive! With the runes you managed to build a...

[For lack of a better term. ]

...fireworks staff?

[He happily gives a little bow, once he turns to face the man.]

Sort of, the light doesn't burn and this is too short to be a staff.

[The runes go back into their proper places, going dormant once more.]

But you could put those runes onto anything and have the magic work?

[He had spoken a bit with Hibiki so rune magic wasn't an entirely new concept to him anymore, but is was still exciting to see it in person. ]

And this is something any one could do?

You could be it better to use it on items that fit. The gem is a good way to see how big the sparkles will be and the wand is easy to wave around.

Think how silly it would be if you put them on someone's bed. Sparkles might shot out when you lay on it or something.

[Sometime you just know what works, other times its trial and error.]

Anyone can make arrays, it just takes understanding and knowledge of what you're doing.

Ah, because the gem acts as a prism?

[Makes perfect sense to him. ]

A gem with more facets might then produce more sparkles with one spell?

[He has to laugh at the bed idea and shake his head.]

That does sound like a fine prank! Or you could place it on a chair so that when some one sits on it... what a surprise they would have!
All of that sounds very fun. I have asked about these ruins a little bit before but I never thought they could have so many uses.

Something like that, though I can say that light will not pass though the crystal normally when the runes are active.

[Now he's laughing at his own silly example.] If I did anything like that Mr. Ja'far might get mad at me.

Runes don't have many limits, so only thing really holding you back is what you think up. This [He holds up the wand] is just something that I came up with, as a gift to my friend. I have a few more done as well, they're really different from this.

Some people do not handle jokes well... no.

[He doesn't know who Ja'far is but clearly the man didn't like pranks. ]

That and not knowing which runes do which task. There is a language to them I have not been able to understand.

[Yet anyway. ]

I suppose it is just something else I will have to experiment with when I have the time.

[Ja'far is like his mother in a way. He doesn't want the bitty to get into too much trouble.]

It doesn't take long to learn the language, after you get that down. The fun part is figuring out what combines with what to have a certain effect. Or imagining all the spells you could make.

Is there a book on this language?

[Symbols had always been a source of interest but these symbols could have magical properties? That did make them a good deal more interesting than most!]

Maybe I could do a sketch of the runes you have there on that staff? That seems like a safe enough spell for a beginner to experiment with.

Yes, there one at my guild and the other has shown up in the library recently.

That's fine mister, just make sure to be careful. This is my friend's gift after all.

[He careful hands over the wand.]

I will have to check one of those places later then.

[Another trip to the library is go!]

And grazie, it won't take long. You can even hold the staff so there is no chance of anything happening to it.

He can pull out his notebook and do a small sketch of the runes and the order they have been placed in on the staff while Aladdin stood there with it. It really didn't take too long. Leonardo could draw pretty quickly. ]

Bene! All finished! Thank you again. These runes are really fascinating things!

[Once he has wand back, he actually activates it again. Waving it around lightly while catching some sparkles in his hand.]

If you want to know something else interesting about them, the other cities have runes as well but they're a bit different.

Ah, Aladdin! Then you are the one Hibiki told me about. She mentioned that if I wanted to know more about runes you would be the one to ask!

[He bowed slightly.]

Why would the runes in other cities be any different? Does the magic not work the same way there?

[Watching sparkles shoot out of a wand is nothing new to Calliope
because magic is totally real
but she stands in awe nonetheless.]

"Oho! RUne magic yoU say? How simply marveloUs!"

[In her hand she holds a plain white stick; her duality wand.
It once turned into a gun, but ever since she got here, it has lost the ability to switch forms. Maybe she couldn't restore that function, but she could at least give some of it's spark back. Afterall, sometimes having the appearance of a functional weapon is just as good as the real thing; it all depends how the gambit is used.]

"And Understanding is all it takes to Unlock sUch marveloUs displays?
SoUnds rather like the magic sir Freyr has given me already."

Yep, it's sort of like having to learn to read before you can write.

[That sure is an interesting accent you have there lady and an even more interesting thing in your hand. He was thinking it could be a foci, some sort of special item or just a normal stick. With where he comes from he's assuming the two former.]

You're in my house then it's nice to meet, I'm Aladdin. Runes work pretty much the same with getting the runes to work. You just have to will it.

"Ah, another Freyr chap are yoU? Splendid!
It is a pleasUre to meet yoU Aladdin, please call me Calliope."

[The cherub extends her- thankfully- gloved hand in greeting; an action she has started to favor about being able to meet people in person.]

"Is that so? I Used to utilize a sort of magic back in my respective Universe, so it shoUldn't prove too difficUlt, I think."

[She holds out her wand so Aladdin can expect it.]

"With oUr patron deities having stripped oUr power, i am afraid this old thing is rather Useless, bUt I'd love to give them a go."

[He happily shakes her hand, it's been awhile since had done this. Most of the time it ends up painfully for him.]

So that is a foci! I have my staff here as well while I can't do anything with it's still nice to have around.

Which power do you have by the way?

"A.. foci, is it? Is that like a jUjU perhaps?

[She tilts her head quizzically.]

"Aww a shame, that, bUt yes I agree, UsefUl or not, I woUldn't trade it for any other."

"I have been given the art of 'drawing life'. ShoUld I will it, I can give corporeal shape to anything I sketch. AlthoUgh admittedly I coUld Use a smidge more practice at it."

A foci is an instrument to do magic with, so your..Juju could be consider one.

I have the other power, Bardic influence. When I make music I'm able to make illusion or influence emotions.

"Ah, yes I believe I Understand. That is a fine way of looking at it.

Oh! Miss Luka mentioned she had that as well, bUt I had no idea what that entailed. That is wonderfUl!"

[Certainly easier to work with than the Bards of SBurb!]

"Has it helped yoU master yoUr Use of the rUnes at all? SUrely the two mUst intertwine somewhere."

They actually work in the same way, they don't use incantations but the user's focused thoughts.

[Which was helped alot since it would take longer learning the pronunciations of everything.]

I haven't met to many people with Drawing Life, so I don't know how power it gets.

"Oh good! Then practicing one type of magic may not necessarily detract in the learning of another."

[Helpful indeed!]

"Oh I woUldn't worry aboUt how mUch power it grants per say. Imagination and inspiration cannot be measUred by a mere scale. I gUess if one is capable of the thoUght and Understand it well enoUgh, anything is possible. ThoUgh it woUld reqUire a great degree of stamina to give form to it, I imagine! Far greater than I certainly have. I think that is part of the beaUty of art; even the smallest of details can be significant."

[ Regina is staring dumbstruck at the wand, a blissful expression in her eyes. It's enough to nearly make her cry. ]

It's so...beautiful! And it's a gift for little ol' me? So now I can do magic for real?! [ If only Max were here - she'd love to show it off to him. ] I love you, Aladdin! Thank you!

[D'aww you're making him blush.]

You're very welcome, Regina! I did remember you saying that you wanted to cover the city in sparlkes, you can now.

[What have you done Aladdin, everyone will go blind once she's done.]

I'm gonna do that! I'll make sparkles wherever I go! And those fireworks as well. They'd be great at parties!

...Oh, like your party, too! I'm looking forward to it.

You can certainly help out at the party that way.

By the way can you stop by the guild to pick up your wand?

[ Impressed, perhaps, in a bewildered sort of way. Arthur can't claim to know much of magic. ]

So - this is what you've accomplished, then, a new form of magic within the city?

Yep, it was the work of my guild and a bunch of other really helpful people!

[He actually didn't except those light exactly. He's pretty happy the city didn't blow up.]

Runic magic isn't new it's something that went out of use and stayed dormant for a long time.

Dormant. There was something dealing it, then? Or had it faded with all the rest?

It faded away around the time the grey first set in.Runes need a certain amount of magical power to work, the grey sap that energy up.

I see.

[ It's natural, then. He doesn't have to worry that you children just unlocked something dangerous (possibly?). :|b ]
