[the bracelet camera's feed cuts in looking up at the sky, catching both the fairylights and the clouds above them, visible in the light reflected from the snow. the view pans and sways a little, and there's the sound of boots crunching on snow. it's late, and asgard is quiet. sophie's voice is quiet, too, and her bracelet stays pointed at the lights and the sky, showing the pretty view, although she's aware she's recording]
The season of metal seems thoroughly passed, now. I wonder if there is a solstice here? Certainly not Christmas. Is the celebration of midwinter universal? It seems most people would call for the light to return, for the world to melt again.
[she keeps walking for awhile, chronicling the lights]
I probably shouldn't like the night, not anymore. But I do. With the snow, it's so quiet, it presses in around your ears, wraps you up in silence. Almost like dreaming.
[when she turns the camera toward her, it's obvious she's been walking awhile, cheeks and nose and ears red with cold]
Is anyone else still awake?

[Obviously he can't either.]

[He pauses.]
Would you like some company? It's better to talk in person.
no subject
Mm. Inside or out? I was heading for the park.

[at least that's what seth's gathered, and he's honestly glad for it, because christmas will be the first major holiday he's spent in asgard and he thinks it might be a little overwhelming to have nothing going on at all.]

[She didn't necessarily talk that much to Sophie since the girl took up a job at the counter. Sam could be a fairly business-like boss if one didn't actively socialize with her, and she spent a great deal of time back in the lab, preparing medicines or experimenting on the gods only knew what. She was always the one locking up at night.
She smirked and shrugged.]
We celebrated Yule at my house. It's similar to a mid-winter sort of celebration. It usually involved an old log being burned and my mother telling me old stories of the kings under the hills long forgotten.
And I suppose I'm a bit of a night owl as a rule.

[sophie had been content to follow sam's lead on socializing. she was grateful for the employment, for the money, for something useful to do with herself, and for the comfort of the familiar scent of herbs that permeated the shop. it was a comfortable place for her, moreso than the more modern aspects of asgard. sam was her boss, to say nothing of the fact that sophie's was a world where apprenticeship was the norm, and deference wasn't a small thing]
That sounds a good bit like our Christmas, although our stories were a bit different and it wasn't usually my father telling them. The Santa bit was the best part, of course, when we were young.
[she gave a wry little smile]
That barely leaves any time for sleep at all. But there are certainly more interesting things to do.

Of course, mom actually never told me about Santa. It wasn't really in our myths.

[Voice] /late oops
Always awake. Midwinter celebration is very universal.
[Voice]
Still not sleeping, Doctor? I'm envious. And is it? I suppose that makes sense.
Do you celebrate Christmas?
[Voice]
Of course. I love Christmas!
[Voice]
I suppose that's fitting.
...is something different, Doctor?
