[It takes a moment for the weary-eyed gentleman to comprehend that his bracelet - which he's put off using for long enough - is working as intended. This kind of technology isn't exactly beyond what's realistic for his world, but at the same time, he can't help but be a little uneasy with it.]

Right. I'll try to keep this brief. I'm Captain Malcolm Reynolds, owner of the Firefly-class transport ship Serenity. But that's neither here nor there, and I didn't come to you to regale you with thrilling tales of adventure.

[He swallows hard, contemplating his next few words.]

This place obviously ain't some quiet, peaceful little lǜzhōu. Truth be told, everything that's going on around here still confuses me somewhat. In fact, I met a very handsome fellow when I first arrived here... happened to look exactly like me.

[He pauses for a moment, and it occurs to him that he could be .]

...I ain't him, for the record.

The point is, I ain't looking to fight a war. I fought in a war before. Not an experience I'd like to repeat. That all being said, I suppose we're all in this mess together, bùshìma?

So, I've got a firearm. I happen to keep it at my side at all times. But what I don't have is ammunition, and that situation needs rectified. So, in case it all hits the fan, which of you fine folks do I talk to about that?

[Inara's actually glad to see this post come up from Mal. She's been entirely wrapped up in helping the wounded from the battles and as such hadn't had much time to check up on him or Simon.

She's worried, obviously, but that's not exactly something she can just tell Mal.

Instead, she's quickly soothing back stray curls from her face and trying to make herself look somewhat presentable before she starts the reply feed.]

It's good to see you in one piece, Mal. [Insert a brief almost awkward pause before she clears her throat and continues on.] You might want to head to the Arena and see what they have to offer for ammunition.

[He's equally glad to hear her voice as well, even if he's not going to be saying as such. And it's not as if he doesn't plan on keeping tabs on her anyway, whether she likes it or not. She's his crew, his responsibility.

And that's totally it, really. Nothing more to be said about it, not at all.]

I'll keep that in mind. To be honest, it doesn't seem like most folks here would have much use for a weapon.

[Her eyebrows knit together and she stares at him confused. Though this isn't exactly a rare experience. She's normally confused around him, she just manages to hide it better.]

I'm not sure I understand. Are you referring to the fact that some have a fighting ability? Or that this place doesn't seem a likely place for a battle?

[He regards her with a bit of a perturbed expression, as if she should have known exactly what he was talking about.] I mean a lot of these folks probably never so much as raised a closed fist before.

[His expression softens. His perceived annoyance is simply a disguise for his concern for her well-being... but she doesn't know that.]

[ His tone is even and his features remain impassive, but he was concerned. This is war, after all, and even though he and Mal aren't exactly best friends, that doesn't mean he wanted to see him injured. Or worse. ]

Doc. [To be fair, even after Mal and Simon come to more of an understanding, they're not exactly the sorts to break down and hug one another on first sight.]

I know you're being kept busy at that hospital, so I'll make sure not to give you any more work than you already have. I suppose I could even make myself of use to you, if the need arises. Any trouble at the hospital?

[He won't risk life and limb for people that he doesn't know even if he does it anyway. Simon, on the other hand, is crew, even if Serenity is worlds away.]

No. No trouble, just the, ah, the sheer number of people. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Should you want to provide it, we're treating most of the wounded at the Arena in the Thor district.

I can't shake the feeling that my not wanting it doesn't mean a big piece of it isn't going to just fall right into my lap. That tends to be the way these things work.

[To be fair, it totally is a futuristic gun. Just... one that shoots bullets.

He does have to force himself, however, not to stare at the red-haired, blue-skinned girl greeting him on the video. On the whole, being kidnapped and taken to a strange universe is a lot more of a shock than Raven's appearance.]

Sounds like I did at that. Next time I get a choice, I'll make sure there's not a ruttin' war going on.

He may be trying to keep himself from staring at her, but she certainly is staring at him. Because he looks so much like Richard. It's weird. That seems odd coming from her, considering the fact that she can usually look like anyone... Interesting ]

As a felloww seafarer and an Orphaner, I'm almost disappointed. But, I forget that you merchant vvessels often don't evven havve any good stories.
