006 - Video

[A video feed comes online in the late evening. Samantha is visible, sitting down in a somewhat gloomy, though homey room in a small building. It appears to be in one of the buildings that was spared the damage of the tornadoes. There's piles of bags and an assortment of herbs on all sides of her as she sits down on the desk, looking at the feed.

From the look on her face, and the only mild cuts still marring the edges of her features, she doesn't seem all that concerned with talking about the last few days' events. Other people can handle that.]

Ok, so... give it about a week for me to get everything set up in the shop, as long as all the stock comes through. Depends on deliveries. Anyway, I'm setting up shop here. "A Pinch of Sage" is in Loki District, not far from the Hospital over in the neighboring district. It's an apothecary and alchemist shop that specializes in herbal cures. Pharmaceuticals of any variety you're familiar with through the various clinics in town should be available, and privacy for clients is strictly protected.

I will be taking clients for serious meds by prescription only, but I will have plenty of over the counter herbal cures. In addition, there is something special for you folks. I've picked up a license to work with some of the local plants with magical properties. Don't expect the quantities to be high early on, but you can ask at the desk if you're interested. It's nothing to hold a candle to the powers we get, but they're definitely interesting, I promise. Cash up front for magical herbs. I'm sure you understand.

Just look for the sign out front. I won't be doing an 'opening ceremony' sale or anything like that. But I figured a few of you might be interested while things are getting set up.

[If she looked bad when she made her last post, she looks terrible now. This is the longest she's ever been awake for one stretch of time, and it's starting to make her question her sanity.]

... come see me tonight. I'll brew you some chamomile tea. I've got that already. If that doesn't work, I'll work up some melatonin for you and we can see if that helps. I think I can get the plants for that stuff in over the next week. It's a dietary thing, but it's really potent.

How long have you been like this? Since the Darkness or before?

The last time I slept was... the second night of the darkness, and that was only for about three or four hours. I just - can't. The nightmares are too bad.

How much will that cost?

A very close second, my good doctor. Regardless, the congratulations is appreciated. I imagine I will be competing with your other distributors in the future, but regardless I do wish to ensure the clinic has what it needs. Any prescriptions you need filled there can be provided close to cost if not at cost.

Yeah, actually I could use a clerk, and someone to help with the greenhouse. A clerk would help me make sure I've got enough hours to fill more delicate prescriptions and do research. The other one, though, I'm kind of hoping to find someone with Growth who isn't working right now.

But I wouldn't mind giving you a go helping out with the clerk's job. It's not too tricky, though the pay's pretty much minimum to start if that's ok.

You're starting your own shop? Seems like people are making themselves quite busy here.

Decent way to make cash, but a lot more valuable for having a place to test out new ideas. Potions, that sort of thing. It's hit and miss at best, and the herbs here aren't really as potent as powers are, but it's something.

Yeah, I can imagine it'd be helpful to be able to make all kinds of potions and all that. Especially if something like what happened would just happen again.

Old principles of Chemistry. [She smirked at the fact that he had contacted her, almost as if there were an 'I told you so' moment there, though at the same time, he hadn't come over or anything, so he was still at a safe distance.] Alchemy worked with humors, energies of a mystical nature along with the physical substances, and tried to coax a property out of something that it normally wouldn't show.

One of the more famous attempts was turning lead into gold. Me, I tend to make potions, unguents, salves and simple substances that have a bit of usefulness.

What experience have you in this practise?

Mostly taught by my mother, but let's call it "Apprenticed to a master for most of my life" for simplicity's sake. That's basically how it worked in my world. I'd say I'm pretty damned skilled, and I've kept pace over at the Yakuzen Clinic before this. Potions, alchemy and such I've done some experiments with at home, but I'm going to need to study these plants to get a feel for more than the really basic properties.
