002. video

[ As the video starts, Hephaestion can be seen sitting on a couch with an expression of mild confusion on his face. After a moment, it becomes obvious that he's watching television - or rather, staring at it. ]

I understand that we come from different worlds, so asking this may be pointless, but according to a friend I'm missing around two thousand years of history.

I am... simply at loss as to where to begin.

Two thousand years...!

Well, at least I don't feel so far behind the times now.
shigeharu: (pensive tea.)

A fair number of people I've spoken to seem to be from about four hundred years after my time, give or take.

Nothing insurmountable. Simply getting by isn't bad; on the other hand, I've been researching the advances in science and technology that I didn't know about, and finding anything written on the level of knowledge I already have has been tricky. A lot of what I've seen assumes at least basic familiarity with concepts that don't exist in my time.

[He doesn't sound terribly troubled about it, though. If he can't overcome that and figure this stuff out, he'll be highly disappointed in his own intellect, after all.]
shigeharu: (why yes thank you i am awesome.)

Through magic, really? [F-fascinating!]

I've managed to find a few books that don't make too many assumptions and do a pretty thorough job of breaking down some of the technology at use here. If you think they might be useful for you as well, I could put together a list of what I've found so far.

Well! I have been catching up by what I am most interested in first. I have found that a good enough place to start.

Hou, but those televisions! Those are quite useful for learning about this new era, I found!

Two thousand years...? That's a really long time. Maybe you should just look up the really interesting parts!

I don't think there's enough time in one day to briefly go over two thousand years of history. But I suppose you should take it step by step?

[he nods.] Well. I might not know as much, but I can try to help. Do you have any idea where you want to begin?

It's much bigger than anything I have back home, that's for sure. I don't know just how great the scope is, since I've been focusing on one thing so far, but...well, I'm hardly in a rush.

[And then he switches to text to add a list of a few titles, before flipping back to video.]

These have been helpful so far! Maybe I should get a more extensive list put together. I'm sure we're not the only ones who might get some use out of it.

[Conan recognises this voice!]

Hello again, Hephaestion-san!

Ne, have your housemates explained the technology in your welcome hall? Are you having any difficulties using that?
