I'm sure everyone's noticed that the gods are playing games again. Thanks to Freyr's post, we don't have to wonder too much about who is responsible. We've still got a lot to learn about what's going on.

Discussion:

1) Do you perceive yourself to be drawn more towards certain people or certain types of people than others?

I hugged a lot of people, yeah. And was hugged ... It was less tiring when I wasn't resisting, but resisting didn't seem to have any effect in the end.

What does "neechan" mean, though?

Ah -- it's sort of ... I'd say it's halfway between 'miss' and 'older-sister' -- where I'm from, it's pretty rude to call someone just by their name unless you know them well. So I call her Yifei-neechan!

Right! It seems like it's a hard thing for a lot of people here to understand, but for me, it feels really rude to not do it.

That's not anything too bad, so... Besides, if it makes you comfortable, then yeah. Just stick to it.

But what are the other ones? For reference...

Let's see ... Oniisan's like Oneesan but for boys! And if they're younger or your friends, it's -kun and -chan. Sensei is for teachers, lawyers, doctors and authors, anyone who leads or teachers or who has a lot of knowledge, basically! 'san' is being polite, and 'sama' is being very respectful.

That's a lot... Many more than I thought there would be. So you have to memorize the specific people and the matching term... [Well, that doesn't sound too hard...]

Not exactly! I mean, it's not like you have to memorize the person and the term ... it depends on the situation! Like, if I want a favour, I call Mouri 'Mouri-san!' or 'Mouri-sama!' but when I talk about him to other people I call him 'Mouri-jisan' or 'Mouri-jichan' if I'm talking to his daughter. But when I'm talking with my friends he's just 'Occhan' and if he heard me use that, he'd scold me.

Wow... languages sound a lot harder than they should be.

That's just Japanese. There are languages like Latin or French where even nouns have masculine and feminine forms and all sorts of variations.

I would probably never go to France to actually use French... Latin is interesting though, but I only know some words rather than the grammar itself.
