If anyone is interested, I've put together a short, basic guide on the city and the things that have happened up until now. A native was kind enough to show me how to submit a document like that - it's just like a typewriter except without all of the fussy ribbons.

Everything I've put there I gleaned from other Travelers, natives, and the gods' announcements. I arrived just before the thick fog lifted, so obviously there are gaps in my knowledge. If anyone could help fill those in for me, that'd be great.

(ooc: So...apparently something wrong when I was re-doing Edmund's icons, because now the icons in this entry from before are all his default. Sorry about that!)

Ah -- well, technically we don't start that till Year 5 ...

[Guess who forgot he was a first year again? Oops.]

I don't know very much about the schooling system in your country but...

[Edmund starts suddenly.]

2011? By jove! [Though stunned, Edmund closes his mouth and recovers.]

I think we've just got our answer. It was 1941 for me. The gods weren't joking when they said they could pluck us out of any time, were they?

It's -- rather a big jump forward! [1941 -- during WWII?]

They really weren't! I don't think they're telling us the whole truth ... but that part, at least, is real.

Seems as if they give us the truth in parts and leave us to figure out the rest.

Do you think they want us to figure it out?

Haven't the faintest. Some of them are willing to give us answers to our questions at the very least.

You've been here far longer than I have - what's your take on all this?

Willing ... but they don't really tell us much, do they?

I don't know. All of this is really outside anything that happens in my world! I don't think we've been told everything yet -- and that we can't rely on the gods for help. But Ragnarok -- I do believe them about that.

I am willing to believe them about that, too.

Not all of them are pleased about Travelers being in their city so there was really a reason for them to bring us here.

Mm. When you consider the effort that must have gone into bringing us all here -- even if the gods don't consider kidnapping a grave crime, the power that they've put into this must have been considerable, and that points to the situation being serious.

Yet they waste time on parties and pranks when they know we need all the time possible to prepare for a war.

Ah. Odin in particular ... he doesn't seem to understand people very well.

What was he like? I have only seen Heimdall and the two Lokis.

I've only seen him in the video feeds -- but he's an odd mix of arrogance and spoilt child. Actually, I guess that's not so odd ...

Odin was? I thought he was supposed to be the intelligent one.

I know intelligence doesn't always mean maturity ... but he's really not what you imagine from a King.

[Edmund frowns at that reminder - it's been a while since he'd read up on the Nordic Pantheon, but now that Conan has mentioned it, he vaguely remembers that Odin was said to be the king.]

No, not at all. A king should care for his people with a stern but kind hand. From what you said, he has done nothing a king should.

He's got the respect of the grey citizens ... but whether that can be taken into account is a little ...

I've spoken to some of them. They have a habit of skirting 'round the issue, don't they? Bother it all.

Have you had any luck interrogating them?

I have slightly more luck talking to people in Hel -- that's the district I belong to -- but that's still not a lot of luck at all!

I've noticed the people of Heimdall had been more inclined to talk, even if they didn't give me exactly what I needed.

It looks like there might be a bias toward the Travelers of their own district.

I'm pretty sure you're right about the bias -- it's a pity it doesn't seem to carry over to the gods themselves!

[He would have thought the gods were biased already, given the separation of the districts by patron god.]

I talked to Hel, hoping that as my patron goddess, she might be more willing to talk than the others -- no luck! Also Sam-san's not had any luck with Odin. We might just be unlucky in our choice of god's of course, but ...
