[Sam is sitting in a chair in the library, surrounded by all of the books, and he looks somewhat tired, but in good spirits. For the most part. Save for that whole 'he definitely hasn't slept' thing.]
Hey -- I think this thing's on... anyway, I'm Sam Winchester.
[Ordinarily he'd never give out his full name, seeing as they're on the run from the Leviathan and all that, but he's ascertained the big bads aren't around -- so a little honesty couldn't hurt, especially with what he's about to ask.]
Nice to meet everyone. I was wondering if anyone could give me a couple of answers to some questions -- you don't have to, and it's obviously not obligatory, but I'd appreciate it.
First, how many of you have any kind of supernatural ability that was taken away when you got here? It doesn't matter what it is -- telekinesis, the ability to fly -- if anything changed, I'd like to know. You don't have to tell me if you don't want to, but knowing what changed is important in knowing how we all got here in the first place.
[And, more importantly, how to get out.]
Second, I was wondering if anyone could tell me where to find some chalk and some spices. Specifically, rosemary, allspice, or nutmeg. Salt would be good, too. I know there's probably a grocery store or something like that around, but any pointers would be great. And, uh --
[Sam pauses before clearing his throat, thumping his pen against the table for a few seconds before continuing.]
Hypothetically speaking, if you had a coat with a lot of blood on it, what would you do to get it out? And I need to know where to find non-blood-stained clothes that'd fit a normal-sized human being. ... hypothetically.

[MERLIN WHAT.]
... I mean, we're -- usually okay, you don't have to check up on us or anything. Really.
I mean, you really think you'll come out with injuries and not expect anyone to care?
Well. Person. It's just Dean now, in their world. That thought is oddly suffocating, so Sam shoves it aside quickly.]
-- we usually just have each other.
It's kind of how it goes in my world.
[He can see how that might be the case, if they're always in danger like he and Arthur are. Doesn't mean he's going to let it go that easily, though.]
Well...still. Different place, different rules, yeah?
[It's said somewhat oddly. Like Sam is trying not to think about it.
But the moment passes and Sam offers a smile at Merlin's point.]
Castiel needs it way more than I do.
Both of you need it. He might be the injured one now, but it sounds like both of you try to pretend nothing's wrong.
Nothing is funny. Everything is very much not funny. Sam is losing his grip on sanity and Castiel is dead. They're pretty much as not okay as not okay can be, but to hear it stated so plainly is just... Absurdly funny.]
Well -- alright, we aren't fine, but we're a lot better than we were when we were home, so. I guess that has to count for something, right?
[And Sam pushes his hair out of his eyes.]
We'll be fine.
[It's a slight correction.]
That better?
It's better, yeah. [Whatever happened to them, Merlin's willing to bet it has to do with Castiel's injuries. He's curious, but Sam and Cas have both dodged the questions before now...so Merlin's figures he should wait before poking again.]
Even if you don't trust everyone here, it's all right to look out for one another, at least until we find our way back home, right?
-- right.
[Sam can admit that much.]
... Cas loves learning anything there is to learn ever.
If you give him a book on something interesting, you're pretty much sold to be one of his favorite people.
Well, what would he count as interesting? Got to start somewhere.
Anything completely and utterly undecipherable by anyone but him.
What about magic books? [If he can even find any around here.]
Magic books would be perfect.
[He smooths out the map he'd been given.] Let's see...the map says there's supposed to be a library in the city somewhere. Fancy a look?
[With something of a laugh -- and he adjusts the bracelet to show A TON OF BOOKSHELVES all around him.]
It's in the Odin sector.
[Merlin rolls up the map and slides out of the chair he'd been occupying.]
I should do some reading, too. [Reluctantly.] Someone I spoke to mentioned the Norse, and it might be a good place to start.
[Sam is the most curious.]
-- these gods are a part of the Nordic pantheon. Who else knows that?
