Act two: From Home

[Hisao hadn't even noticed at first. He hadn't spent that much time in his room and the time he had spent there had been reading or sleeping. However, he had noticed now. It seemed everyone was recieving things from home - important things. On his nightstand they sat, like little soldiers, lined up for battle. Pill bottles - His medications from home. Now, at least, he would have something to show Dr. Watson or the Hospital Pharmacy that would inform them better than his memory of the pills names, many of which were very long and complicated sounding. This place really WAS magic, wasn't it?

This got him to wondering about something and he switched on his bracelet, setting it to video.]

I was told I was given a healing power. I'm in Sigyn, and that's apparently something some of us can do? Before coming here I'd never really thought seriously about magic or anything like that. If someone could tell me how to use this power or how to even get started learning how to use it, I'd like to see if I can help anyone who needs it because of the stabbings.

I've never had any kind of... magical anything before so I really am at Level Zero with this concept. How do you even get started with it?

I was new to it, too-- but it's easier if you've got an injury or something to work with.

I can imagine it would be. Otherwise it would be hard to know if it was working or not.

Unfortunately, I'm not injured... wow, there's a sentence I never thought I'd say in earnest.... and I don't want to get in the way at the Hospital or one of the Clinics until I'm sure I can be of some use.

How do you go about using your power? What's your process?

I just think about what it is that I want to fix, and my palms get warm. [ she wriggles her fingers with a rueful smile. ] If you concentrate long enough, then your fingers start tingling, and that's how it's worked for me.

[He'd seen enough Sci-Fi Fantasy TV shows to know there was usually some glowing or sparkling.]

Well, that's great. How are you at using your healing powers? Do they come in useful?

I'm alright with them... They are still very weak, but it's better than nothing when somebody gets hurt.

Well, I bet they're stronger than mine, being I don't know the first thing about magic in general, let alone using it myself. But I'd like to help people, if I can.

Healing? (wait a minute, he's sure he doesn't have that one, but he's from the same place...) They're not only different from place to place, but each area has multiple types?

From what I understand, yes. I don't know the specifics, but I think being placed in a house doesn't mean you can only have one possible power. I think there are multiple powers available to each house.

But like I said, I'm not an expert and could be wrong.

I doubt you're mistaken, unless someone lied to me or I'm doing this healing thing hideously wrong.

Well, if your power isn't healing, is it Growth? You can do things with plants?

That might be it... (what is he supposed to do with that!!) Guess I could always open up shop as a gardener.

You could do that, sure. Most people enjoy plants, so, it's actually a pretty useful power to have.

It's, uhh, true. In Sigyn we can heal, and apparently grow things, which is kind of cool, I guess, but also kind of not useful. Unless, I guess, you really needed to grow something.

[Wow. So, there's a guy who doesn't look anything at all like anyone Hisao has ever seen or heard of outside of books and TV. Horns, grey skin, yellow eyes? His voice sounded a little unsure, though - not the sort of thing Hisao would have expected from someone who looked like that. He waits a moment before replying so that his initial shock isn't on display.]

Well, actually, I was talking to a friend of mine with that same power yesterday. I think it's pretty useful for this world. If we're supposed to be filling this place with color and emotion and that kind of thing, plants are pretty useful for that.

That's a very good point. But, uh, it might not be very good for things like, defence, or, protection. Which might actually, be an important thing here, if I'm being honest.

Yeah. She said something similar. I still think it's useful in it's own way. You can make people's lives nicer when there's no fighting going on, and that's got to count for something.

I can understand that. Plus, it sounds like you've been here longer than me, so, you'd have a better idea of things that are helpful and not so much, probably.
