Hi, everyone. It's Apollo Justice. There's been a lot of trouble here lately, and probably I can't do much more to help at this point, but if you're in trouble, and there's something I can do for you, I will. [He looks determined. He really does want to help, though what use his fire magic will be at a time like this, he doesn't know.]

I was thinking... I'm certified in first aid and CPR, so if any of you want lessons, let me know. It's good to at least be aware of the basics, to help yourself or other people.

[After a disturbing incident in which he'd watched someone die, back home, he'd wanted to know how to act in a situation like that, rather than feel helpless and do nothing.

Then his very serious tone shifts, lightens a little.]

Also, does anyone know if there's a pet store around here?

[It's not hard to figure out why Apollo asks this question. Currently, there is a very mannerly, very glossy, and very purebred Golden Retriever sitting beside him. It was once Kristoph Gavin's dog, but Apollo, previously Mr. Gavin's go-to, pro bono dog sitter, had taken her in and has been taking care of her at home. He'd returned to his room in Asgard to find her suddenly there, waiting for him very politely. (The dog is better trained than many people he could name.)]

Or any place I can get pet supplies. And I could probably use a job, if someone's hiring.

[Since he has a dependent now.]

What're first aid and CPR?

Oh! Uh. [All right, he hadn't been expecting that question, but as he's had to explain the very concept of a legal system to people, this shouldn't be too hard.]

CPR is a special technique for dealing with injured people to get their heart and lungs working right.

First aid is a more general term for treatment people who are injured or sick in an emergency. If you can't get them to a doctor right away, you can deal with their injuries in the meantime.

So both of them are to help people who are hurt?

Exactly! It's for helping people in emergency situations.

CPR is a kind of first aid, but you can know first aid without learning CPR. [Though since she didn't know what they were, he probably shouldn't try to confuse the matter more. So he smiles, in conclusion.]

Well, if they can help people, then I'd really like to learn them both!

Sure, that would be great! I'm planning on holding classes in an empty room in the hospital. It doesn't take that long to get certified.

I'll sign you up and let you know. What's your name?

I didn't know you had a doggy! Can I come see him? [Because she doesn't want o be alone anymore, and all these stabbings are freaking her out. Not that you can tell by the grin, though.]

I didn't, before now! I mean, I did at home, but--

[Oh, well, he'd kind of hadn't mentioned it to anyone.]

Sure, you can! Or maybe I should come see you. [The thought of Trucy running around by herself in the city after all these stabbings fills him with dread. Oh, god, the worrying. He needs more money so he can afford an apartment for them or something, because how will he be able to cope otherwise?] You're okay, aren't you?

Her name's Clams. I mean--Vongole. [Since Vongole means Clams, he'd taken to calling her that sometimes because it was cuter, but it would not be very manly to admit that.]

Ime fine, Polly! Stop worrying so much about me. [She's not fine, but she's only really used to telling Phoenix. Sorry, Apollo.] I'm already on my way, so it's too late.

[She be ignoring you to talk to the dog now.] Hey there Clams! Who's a pretty doggy? You are! You stay right there and I'll give you pets in no time.

[He will never stop worrying.

Never.]

I didn't say you weren't fine, I asked if you were okay. [Technically true in spite of what he may have been implying.] But I can go-- Fine.

[He sighs. If she's already on her way, what can he do? And--hey, don't ignore him in favor of the dog.]

Next time, I'll come to Loki.

[Best older brother.]

Hee hee, Polly you like to get all angry about weird things, you know that?

Who, me? I do not! I don't see what's so weird about it...

[He folds his arms. Grumpily.]

I'm not angry. I'm--concerned. I'll come down to meet you. I should take her on a walk anyway.

[You're starting to become Ema Skye, Apollo! Stop it!] ...Okay.

[Because she isn't going to waste her energy trying to stop him.

She runs into him soon enough.] What a cute doggy!

[He is not. He's just acting normal. Except for some slight concern over people being stabbed around the city, which he thinks is perfectly reasonable.] Hi, Trucy.

[The dog wags her tail, and now that Trucy's arrived safely, Apollo is much more relaxed. He smiles.] She is. She's a good dog. I was surprised to find her here. I don't know why the gods decided to give some people their pets.

Not that I'm complaining about that. [Just about the other things.]

[And what good does freaking out do, Polly?]

Hey there, Polly. What a surprise running into you. [The grin shows she's just being cheeky.]

Did you miss her? [Pets Vongole with both hands; to the dog.] I'd miss a pretty doggy like you, yes I would!

[But--but--he isn't, he's just concerned. See, look, just calmly walking his dog, while keeping an eye our for anyone stab-happy. Perfectly sensible!]

You do look shocked. [He smiles back.]

I did. I was worried about who was going to take care of her, but it looks like she's all right. [Very well behaved, Vongole stands still at Apollo's side, her tail wagging slightly.]

[If anyone approached her, she'd just look at them to see if there was anything out of the ordinary... Something she might have done with you already. See, she's cautious!]

You know Daddy and I would have taken her if you disappeared! [She's doing that "smile-doesn't-quite-reach-her-eyes" thing again.] Good girl, clammy, good girl! [More pets for you, Vongole.]

That's true. I know. I didn't mean to say you wouldn't. [He just has a worrying problem.]

But I didn't disappear, right? Which is good. [He smiles back.] At least we're not really leaving people behind when we come here. Though--I still have no idea how that works.

[Vongole is the most well trained dog. And she does like getting pets. :3]

[She finally stops petting the dog to look at him.] Well Uncle Larry and Uncle Miles are here, and they definitely aren't missing back home and they don't even know me, so I don't think that time works the same here...

Oh, that's right. They wouldn't. They're from seven years ago, that's why. Lots of people here come from different times, even if they know each other.

They have no idea who I am.

But being here and having no time pass while we're gone? That's different. Somebody else mentioned that might be true, once, but I wasn't sure. If so, that's great! One less thing to worry about. [Finally, a worry subtraction.]

I mean, it would have to, right? If time did pass, I never would have met Uncle Miles or Uncle Larry, because they'd be here. That means Daddy won't have to be sad and lonely by himself! [That's a relief.]

Well Polly, you've never met them, have you? It only makes sense that they wouldn't know you.

That's true. I hadn't thought about it like that, but it makes a lot of sense. [He nods, liking this idea.] That makes this all a lot easier to take.

I'm sure Mr. Edgeworth knows who I am in our time, since I was the defense in the first test case of the jurist system. [Apollo Justice, great reformer!]

He's probably read about me in the paper.

[She grins. Happy to take a load off your mind, Apollo.]

That's true, I guess you're really famous now! Not as famous as Troupe Gramarye, but famous enough.

[Apollo all but beams at this praise of his lawyerly renown.]

No, I'm not an entertainer, though. It's different. I didn't dedicate myself to the law for fame, but for truth and justice. [He thinks that sounds pretty good.]

But--I'm sure Mr. Wright's other friend doesn't know who I am. [He didn't seem like he would follow legal news.] I've never heard of him either. He sure doesn't seem like someone Mr. Edgeworth would be friends with.

That's true, but that's why you're such a good lawyer, Polly--because you're not after anything but the truth.

You mean Uncle Larry? They were all friends when they were young.

[He blushes slightly at being called a good lawyer.] Right! The truth's what matters most to a good lawyer.

Not that I'm famous exactly, so much as well-respected. [He doesn't approve of showboating famous lawyers.] Just that Mr. Edgeworth definitely keeps up with the legal news.

That's who I mean. He's just not like Mr. Edgeworth at all. [But then, neither is Mr. Wright. Mr. Edgeworth's serious and respectable.] But if they were friends as kids, that makes sense.

[You can be famous and not showboat, Apollo.]

They defended Daddy when they were all little, and Daddy's been friends with them ever since. Well, more Uncle Larry than Uncle Miles... But Uncle Miles and Daddy reconnected when they were older.

First aid, huh? That sounds really helpful, especially when there's stuff like this going on around here... mind me signing up for them?

And hey, if you find a pet store, could you let me know, too? I've got a friend of my own to take care of now, too.

No, I don't mind at all. [As a matter of fact, he is very happy that someone was interested and liked his idea, and he beams.] Great! I was thinking of holding classes in one of the unused rooms at the hospital, but I'll have to ask.

You too? It looks like a few people got their pets from home. I'll keep an eye out. There must be one somewhere around here.

It seems like it. [He frowns.] I really wish they'd stop pulling these things. I'd rather not have gotten anything and had no one get stabbed. [He sighs.]

...although I am glad to have her here. [So he cheers up. A little.] What kind of pet is yours?

Oh, right—I'm Chie Satonaka! Sorry for not introducing myself before.

Yeah... but hey, no use beating ourselves up over what's happened, right? It's done and over with. [she similarly pauses briefly, before moving on.] I've got a dog, too. He's a... St. Bernard, I think? I always get the breed names mixed up.

Nice to meet you, Chie. [He smiles.]

You're right. There's no point. [He nods, finally. He's tired of these gods, and it puts him in a bad mood, but what good does complaining do?]

Oh, those are really big dogs. You could run a rescue operation with him. [He indicates Vongole, who is sitting very patiently, looking at him, so he pets her.] And she's a Golden Retriever, though they are pretty recognizable.

Same to you... Apollo, right?

And yeah, I could... if he wasn't such a big wuss. Oh well. [she shrugs a little, but it's no big deal! she quickly moves on, beaming at Apollo's dog.] She's cute! What's her name?

Right. Apollo Justice. But just Apollo's fine, obviously.

Well, rescue work's not for everyone. I'm sure he's a great dog.

Her name's Clams! I mean, Vongole. But I call her Clams sometimes. [Why she was named Italian for clams, he doesn't know.] She wasn't always my dog, so I didn't name her.

Oh, he is! I wouldn't trade his smelly butt for any other dog, ever.

Vongole, huh... I think I like Clams better. It's definitely cuter, for sure!

[ Thank goodness he's all right. Lamiroir had been worrying with the stabbings. ]

With no legal system, what sort of employment would you look for?

I don't exactly know...

[He really doesn't have any particular idea. The gears turning in his head are all but literally visible.]

I do have my bike with me, because I showed up here on the way to work. So--I could be a bike messenger? I'm good at filing and organization. [And shouting.] And I'm very detail-oriented.

[In his serious consideration of her question, he hadn't thought to ask, but it suddenly strikes him.]

... Oh, are you all right?

[She looks all right, but still--!]

[ He worries quite a bit, doesn't he? ] Yes, I'm fine. The attacks were concerning, but I had no visitors of my own. It doesn't seem like you did, either. [ She'll get back to the work stuff in just a tick. ]

[There's a lot to worry about here. Maybe he does worry too much sometimes. He's just had to see friends be hurt already.]

Good, I'm glad. [And he smiles.] No--she's the only visitor I got. [Apollo pets the dog's head.] And she's not the bad kind. So I think I'll be okay.

I'm glad to hear it. [ More than Apollo would think. ]

A bike messenger would work. Perhaps your skill in filing would be appreciated where there are records to be organized. The library... or perhaps the hospital. Is that where you'll be teaching? There is also the bank, I suppose. [ But going to all three sectors each day might be tedious, and she doesn't recall him expressing any interest in finance. ]

Me too. I mean, that you're all right.

The library's a good idea, and I've already been volunteering at the hospital. [A thoughtful pause.] My friend Varon and I were just talking about opening a business. Maybe. I'm not sure if it'll work out, but I might do that! [He thinks about this idea critically.] Though even if we do, it'll take some time to set it up, and I need something else in the meantime. [Not only does he need the money, but he likes keeping busy.]

[He nods.] I was thinking of asking if I could use one of the rooms in the hospital for the classes.

[ She's curious about his friend and the business, but... would that not be nosy? She's only an acquaintance to him. She looks thoughtful for a moment as he continues speaking, only the barest hint of frustration in her brow. ] --Ah, yes. It does no good to stay idle. There are little things to keep occupied with, but a job would help.

...My first aid is very rusty. [ They're from before the accident, back when Troupe Gramarye had only mild mishaps from tricks or animal partners to worry about. ] I would be interested whenever you are able to arrange the class. [ ...Even if it's not entirely for the first aid. It's still a major factor. ]

What is CPR, sir?

You can get food for your dog in the market, that's where I get mien for my pet.

What sort of job are you looking for?

CPR is a technique use to keep someone's heart and lungs working when they're failing.

The market? Just the regular market--there's no special pet store? Not that I have a problem with the market, I was just wondering.

[As for a job, he doesn't really know.] I'm a lawyer, so I can't really do my job here. Which is why I thought I'd ask and see if anyone had any ideas or offers.

So it's like healing magic?

[Pet stores doens't exist per se in his world. You want an animal? you go to a market. That's why he looks confused at the question.] Ah..yes?

Sorry to ask so many questions, but what's a lawyer?

Sort of, but it's not magical. You use physical techniques and sometimes equipment, if you have it.

[He's getting the idea that Laurent is from a very different time and place.]

Not a problem. Basically, I'm someone who defends people who are accused of a crime.

So it's like normal human doctors then.

[Very, very different indeed. He was about to say something else, but Apollo's answer makes him way.] And how do you know If those people are innocent or not?
