Such juvenile humor was miraculously absent, but it wouldn't be truthful to say I'd have been shocked if that wasn't the case.

They were disappointing simply because I expect those with a fine taste in literature to be competent enough to hold a conversation that doesn't devolve into unfounded complaints or impossible scenarios.
