002 -> Video/Action for the Merlin household

[When the video opens, Leon is standing in the middle of a clean, if slightly shabby-looking kitchen, looking even more out-of-place than usual in his linen tunic. He's holding two slices of bread in one hand, and looks very concerned.]

I was told by the lady at the large food market that if I put bread in this - [he spins the camera a bit to reveal a shiny new toaster oven, standing unplugged and gleaming on the counter] that it will produce toast.

Er, does anyone know where I'm supposed to light the fire?

Yes, but I was also suspicious of how the 'kettle' was supposed to boil water, and it works very well.

[She takes it with all the air of a COOL AND ACCOMPLISHED expert in the field, gathering him towards the toaster gently.]

Okay, see this? [Taking the plug] This the plug, and you plug it in right here. [A-like so.] Be careful with these outlets, and never stick anything in them that isn't a plug.

Now you just put the bread in here, and look- see those coils? Those are the lights, that's where the heat comes from.

To toast it, all you do is select how dark you want it toasted using this dial- then you press this button right here down.

[And lo: the mysterious coils start glowing red and there's heat coming faintly from the appliance.]

This "technology" is a most fearsome force, Leon. I don't like it in the least bit.

It does seem somewhat unnecessary. I've been told it's more convenient than a fire.

[ He picks up the toaster and turns it over in his hands, peering inside. ]

There's "electricity" inside of it, correct? Where do you suppose it's hidden? I want to see it myself.
