Wow. Nice tech. Flashy. And here I thought waking up in Gotham was a headache. You've got to wonder how deep down this particular brand of eccentric dedication goes -- I mean, I've dated enough cops and have the common sense to know that this isn't a regular kidnapping. No ransoms, no demands, just promises of heroism, providing we do exactly as we're told. Vague instructions and all. It's our own personal social experiment-slash-reality TV show, set in Asgard (sure), which is making it seem like someone is in desperate, desperate need of lifetime membership to Arkham. Looks like I'm batting for Team Thor. Ooh, exciting. Do I get a roommate? Are we all gonna participate in team-strengthening activities and bond over a beer and a burger? Inquiring minds. -- Kate

You seem to be taking this remarkably well. Does this sort of thing happen to you often?

Almost never. Maybe I'm only taking this well because I don't know how bad it's going to get.

That's one way of looking at it. Then again, imaginations do tend to run wild in these situations. I mean, is it better to think there's a dragon at the top of the mountain or to know there is?

That all depends on how big the dragon is.

What if it's a really big dragon followed by a lot of little ones?

Then I'd want to know. Just so that I could drag up something big and tasty with me and mama dragon could feed the little ones.

It's too bad this isn't Kirkwall. And I suppose I hope there aren't any dragons. Though once you start asking yourself "what's worse than dragons?" things tend to get sticky, don't they?

Well then. Maybe you ought to consider a change of location? Wherever I go, dragons do seem to follow. Not that I'm taking it personally, mind you.

Sounds to me like you're taking it personally. But I'm guessing that your dragons are a little less figurative than mine.

Not sure I'd feel comfortable either confirming or denying that. But I've gotten this far without anything scaly trying to BBQ me.

I have no idea what this 'BBQ' is, but then again--we've already established not knowing can be better. I'll do my best to infer it's something unpleasant.

When you're the one being made the centre of a BBQ, yeah, it's something unpleasant. Not the sort of attention you really want.

I'll keep it in mind. And I'm sure the jargon I've picked up will confuse and delight the locals. Do you really think it's a kidnapping, then? Not some more sinister plot?

Great. Watch it go right over their heads. I think it's a kidnapping, abduction, whatever, really. But I don't doubt it's part of a more sinister plot. You had any thoughts on it, mysterious BBQ-fearing stranger?

Only a few. It's not as though I'm not used to my fair share of ordeals. In fact, I think I've had more of those than dragons.

Still, there has to be a reason. Why us? And what happens next? And will it be terrible?

Heh. Sorry. It was just your line of questioning. Made it sound like the hook for some godawful storyline.

Oh, that. That's probably because I've been spending too much time with a storyteller. Sometimes we play a game when we're going through the sewers--a game called 'Think up the hook for Hard In Hightown VII: Harder and Harder.' It's better than the alternative--which is looking down.

Probably better than the alternative of being stuck in said godawful storyline, too.
